We check out, diagnose and repair this riding mower with Briggs & Stratton Vanguard engine that is running but has no power. We fix a no spark issue on this Simplicity mower.
We often see black smoke, fuel smell or bogging / dying under a load as symptoms of this issue elsewhere. Sometimes you can just tell something is not quite right.

    Excellent video!! I was guessing coil all the way... I'm well versed in older B&S opposed twins & single cylinder stuff, single barrel carb engines. Started watching your channel because you clearly know what you're doing with the twin cylinders, zero turns & not just fire a parts cannon at them. Really appreciate the videos, great explanations & knowledge you're sharing. Great content 👍

    Many of the Briggs and others do, they are still being made and sold this way. Some have diodes in other electrical areas also (Simplicity comes to mind off top). Thanks for watching!

    I bought a brand new 44 cubic inch Intek v-twin years ago. Sounded great at idle, but noticed when I would kick the blades on the RPMs would drop too low so I knew something was wrong. Brand new engine, running on one cylinder because of the wire with the diode was bad. I never really understood the purpose of that wire because it runs just fine without it. Another time I bought a used White riding mower with a Vanguard V-twin that ran on one cylinder. It had a two barrel carburetor, and one side of the carburetor was clogged.

    How did you know it wasn't the coil grounding because of a bad safety switch?

  • @IndRepair

    @IndRepair

    Because the other side was sparking ok. If it was grounding out neither will spark

    Great video. Is there a primary side to the diodes? I use a test spark and ground it. I bend the ground electrode out. Not as easy as your clip on, but never have failed me.

    The terminal that has a small silver ring around it is the negative and the black side is the positive

    Thanks for video I have a twin 24 hp this thing about to run me crazy lol . Once it's cranks it will crank every time. But when you first go to crank it. It want crank. You can put gas on a rag hold it up to the breather it cranks right away. I checked the fuel pump showing good. What would be your take on this.

    Usually don't see that too much on these, mowing ditches and bad hills I see them use oil and normal gasket/seal failures but wouldn't say anything out of the ordinary. I prefer a Kawasaki also but have a vanguard on my Simplicity and it has been a work horse. I have less than 1/2 acre of flat land so it doesn't get a whole lot of use. Thanks for watching!
