Simple Rockets 2 A Simulation For Every Internet Rocket Scientist

Ғылым және технология

18 Months on from its early access release the game is still being developed with features being added regularly. In Particular internet rocket scientists who want to clone real world designs find the procedural design mechanic - including simulation of rocket engines - a superior alternative to other games. It also includes a visual automation system called 'Vizzy' that lets designers code write software to fly their rockets instead of trusting their pilot skills. It also supports iPads and other tablets (in theory it supports phones, but the UI is hard to use at these scales).
So, there's a lot to recommend it, but having said that it still lacks a lot when compared to Kerbal Space Program or Orbiter 2016, but there's an audience out there who want to build their own rockets and get turned off by little green men, and this might be perfect for them.

    I think simple rockets would do well to switch to a real-sized earth, or include an option for a real size earth. Since they have added so many engine options and have a more CAD like builder, they should try to be a realism overhaul like space game rather than competing directly with KSP.

    I got this game a little after it launched and I caught on really quick, the devs keep adding a bunch of really cool stuff to this that makes it amazing. My only problem is the lack of things to do besides build a rocket and fly it. Other than that the amount of customization in this game is fantastic and it actually got me into teaching myself about rocket engines and the engineering behind them. A great little learning tool for anyone interested in space.

    The "Simple" in the name is deceptive, I felt out of my depth in this game. Just as Scott said not having an actual navball feels especially confusing, and the builder is not the best. Also, I'm not an engineer or a programmer so most of the extra features are lost on me. Still, I'm glad it exists and don't mind that I spent some money to support the devs even if I don't play it.

  • @valderon3692

    @valderon3692

    4 жыл бұрын

    Really? I feel like most things about this game are oversimplified. I find the navball in this game is way easier to understand than KSP, though I'm not really a fan of having to use it because it feels like a mobile UI thing and I hate mobile UIs. I agree that the builder could use work as it also feels like it's designed to work with mobile devices and therefore makes building more complex shapes very slow and tedious but for simple rockets like many people make it's very easy to use, just drag and drop where you want it just like KSP. Also, you don't really have to be a professional programmer to use the games programming language as it's really similar to Scratch which is used primarily by children ages 8-16. You just need to understand some of the basic terminology related to rockets and navigating space just like in KSP. Then again, I grew up before KSP and had to learn everything through Orbiter 2006 and both games are a cake walk compared to that, especially when it comes to making rockets so I don't really like to complain too much about either of them. SR2 is currently my game of choice as it gives me a lot of tools that vanilla KSP won't even if they aren't as intuitive as they could be.

    Simple Rockets 2 is extremely well-optimized for all systems, and it runs buttery smooth on even low-spec PC's and laptops. It even runs on my smartphone at a stable 30 FPS with high graphics and physics settings at an HD resolution with full multi-touch screen support and bespoke mobile GUI for either Android or iOS. I recommend getting it for PC as that's the best platform and the PC version on Steam offers the best graphics, performance, options, and modding capabilities. There's also a large, growing, and creative community of fans on the SR2 forums and other websites that make brilliant crafts, parts, solar systems, and mods on a regular basis. Plus, the developers are very kind, generous, intelligent, hard-working, open, transparent, and communicative to boot! :)

    @@milkyway370 Yep, adding a big bunch of mods can make the game load for a looong time. I've never understood why KSP needs to load every single part before the game even starts. Why not just load stuff as you pick them from the ship building UI. This was also a huge problem when the game was a 32-bit program. If the game + mods went over the 4 GB memory limitation it just crashed.

    The game has come a very long way, the developers continue to work hard on new features, content, options, and fixes while communicating very well with the community and taking user suggestions seriously. Jundroo is the development studio and they have continually implemented fan feature suggestions throughout development. The most recent fan suggested feature was player-controllable astronauts that can pilot user-made crafts and even perform space walks in orbit and on any planet in the game's solar system. I highly recommend the game for PC, it's going to be officially supported and receiving new content and patches every few months for a long time. :)

    It's confirmed and on the game's development road-map that there will be a proper singleplayer career mode. In fact, if you play it now you can already see the basic financial system calculations running in the game's craft designer GUI, which is one of the foundational systems of a simulated economy that they wouldn't add if it were exclusively a sandbox engineering game. I highly recommend this game, I could never get into KSP because I felt too restricted on what crafts I could design since that game limits you to pre-built parts. Simple Rockets 2 allows me to be far more creative and design all sorts of insane contraptions. Plus, there is a rapidly growing and talented modding community for SR2 already. :)

    i completely forgot about this game, its really come a long long way since its early versions, and a reeeeeeeeeeeally long way from simple rockets one that i used to play on my phone. cool to see a ksp inspired game go in such a different direction

    I just want to add one thing to the discussion that is probably pretty important, we're comparing a game that's well past its official release and getting ready for a sequel, to a game that's barely trying to get a footing for itself. So if there is a difference in quality and refinement of certain aspects such as, say, user interface, that may be a part of the reason why.

    Bought it immediately! The programming feature is sooo next level. All real rocketry is based on automation so if we REALLY wanna go to space we need to build an intuition for that as well as the physics and orbital mechanics. Let's hope KSP2 includes something similar =)

    Tintin's Rocket had two non-separating stages: A chemical engine for takeoff and landing (for safety reasons to not irradiate the sites), and a nuclear engine (by the way of continuous explosions) for the way back and forth to speed up the travel and create artificial gravity with the constant acceleration. In other words, the chemical engine on your rocket is not wrong - it just wan't the only way of propulsion for the rocket.

    Scott recently showed how the denser H2O2 could make a smaller rocket (less drag) and that almost makes up for the low specific impulse. If lower drag is so important, so how come ballistic missile nose cones were so blunt.
