Simple Minds at Live Aid 1985

Музыка

The full performance of Simple Minds appearance at Live Aid at the John F. Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia, USA. 13th July 1985.
3 songs were performed: "Ghostdancing", "Don't You (Forget About Me)" and "Promised You a Miracle". Sadly, the satalite link was cut halfway through the performance of "PYAM". I'm not sure if footage of the full performance actually exists.
I believe these are the first live performances without founder member Derek Forbes (bass player - replaced by John Giblin, seen here obviously) and also the first live performances of "Ghostdancing" and "Don't You Forget About Me" although "I Travel" was performed a few times very similar to "Ghostdancing" in January 1985.
Best viewed 1080p.

I never appreciated how perfect every element of this song is. From the tight drums and driving bass to the guitar flourishes and front and center synths. Great vocals too. No wonder it was such a hit. It's got it all.

Also gotta give them praise because the act they had to follow was Queen the band that is said to have killed the live aid show. Very hard act to follow. But Jim Kerr and Charlie burchill with their frontman guitar duo killed it.

@the_minimalistic_advJim Kerr actually said a few years back.....how do you follow that....as in regard to witnessing Queens performance. The confidence in the band is awesome. To start a monumental show like this with a brand new song being performed for the first time is breathtaking......bordering on arrogance

@@the_minimalistic_adventure yes it was two different stadiums but it’s still the same. Queen preformed once Queen was done. BBC switched to simple minds live in jfk via satellite so they still preformed after them even if it wasn’t the same stadium

Simple... U2 The Best!

The sound sucked in the usa. Simple Minds should have performed in London and done a 17/18 minute set if SOMEONE SOMEWHERE IN SUMMERTIME, GLITTING PRICE, BIG SLEEP, PROMISED YOU A MIRACLE. THEN THEY WOULD HAVE BEEN BIGGER THAN U2

The whole Philadelphia concert, in my opinion, was spoiltt by a very poor stage set up.Background clutter, dudes standing around, shit evgrywhere. Just took much focus away from the bands performing. I mean look at the la la la la la bit. Jim is just surrounded by about 10 muppets with cameras. Stage setup and presentation is important - clutter sux
