Simple Cub Cadet LTX Mower Drive Belt Upgrade: Easy How-to Guide!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Welcome to the BaldEagle242 Channel! In this video, we dive into replacing the main drive belt on a Cub Cadet LTX mower. Whether you're a seasoned DIY enthusiast or tackling this for the first time, I'll guide you through the process.
⚙️ Tools and Parts Required:
To get started, you'll need basic hand tools: a 7/16 wrench, a ratchet, a 5/8", 9/16" & 1/2" socket. Additionally, a spring release tool (Link: amzn.to/3R10Ih3 ) can be convenient for dealing with the tensioning springs involved in this task. Of course, you'll also need a new belt specific to your mower. The belt for this mower is linked here but check under your mower hood for the specific belt required on your machine.
Variable Speed Drive Belt Made with Kevlar 5/8" X 91" for Toro 112-0301, Craftsman/Cub Cadet/MTD/Troy-Bilt 954-0467 754-0467A 754-0467 (91" is a better fit than the 90" belt used in this video)

🛠️ Procedure Overview:
The video begins with removing the mower deck, providing easy access to the belt. I explain the belt configuration in detail and highlight the tools required for the job.
🧰 Preparation and Safety:
Before diving in, it's essential to ensure the mower is safe to work on if you are going to tip it up like I do in this video. This involves draining fuel and oil from the machine and removing the battery. Safety measures like using a key on the oil dipstick are demonstrated to prepare the mower for the belt replacement and to ensure the mower is not started with no oil in the engine.
🔩 Belt Replacement Process:
The video covers the entire belt removal and installation process with clear and detailed instructions. From releasing tension on the springs to detaching the belts from the pulleys, every step is explained thoroughly to make it easy to follow.
🔧 Adjustments and Tips:
I provide insights into adjusting the tension for different belt sizes and offer recommendations for the optimal size. Tips on handling different types of belts are explained as well.
🌟 Additional Information and Gratitude:
Towards the end of the video, I thank viewers for their support and engagement. I announce a sticker giveaway, where viewers can request free stickers until December 31, 2024, with shipping covered within the United States and specific international locations. Details for participation and contacting me are provided in the video.
🎬 Conclusion and Testing:
The video concludes with reassembling the mower, testing the newly installed belt, and ensuring that it functions correctly, demonstrating its stopping and speed control in both forward and reverse.

    @baldeagle242 a friend has same rider and top belt came off bought a new one but after looking at the main longer drive belt it needed to be replaced used numbers off the hood for both belts but now when letting off fas the tractor won't stop moving belt size is 5/8 x 90.5 would the 5/8 91 give it enough slack to stop moving. Also the variable pulley is the top shorter belt supposed to be all the way to the inside and the bottom long belt sit on the outside of pulley everything looks good thanks for any info that could help

    @robertbryce6735 a half inch longer will make a difference. In this video I show how you can adjust the tension for the slightly longer belt. The way you described the belts on the pulleys is correct.

    @ 7:00 --- the SILVER pully has a guard on the rear side it that is thin and has to be bent back to get either belt off. The big black pulley wheel has to be taken off with a 7/8 wrench and a screw driver down in the hole braced up against something so it does not turn. I spent $50 on extra tools just to do this part. I also purchased a 13/16 wrench - but did not need it. A 3/4 inch is too small. Make sure you buy a OEM Cub Cadet belt. The one I got that was Kevlar enforced off of Amazon did NOT work. I left the spring on there and just took the black pulley off - one less tool to buy ... you can push on it with your hand to move it back to release tension ... it's not a deal breaker. BUYING THE CORRECT BELTS is !!!!

    Hey, I was using my 2014 LTX 1046 yesterday and the drive belt let go. I put a new one in this morning and double checked everything. I do the normal starting procedure for the first start and when the key is turned to start, there is an electrical sounding whine and nothing happens. No other sounds or movement. I tried jumping it and now theres a click but still no start. Any ideas?

    I replaced the long drive belt that I purchased from Lowes that's supposed to be OEM.I've tried adjusting the linkage and when the engine is first started the machine doesn't move when I release the pedal in forward & reverse. After mowing with it for a little while the machine wants to continue moving forward & reverse. Seems like when the engine gets hot this happens. ANY information would be greatly appreciated.

    It’s a guess but it you’re certain you have the correct belt it sounds like your variable speed pulley maybe sticking and not moving up and down properly. Again, it’s tuff to diagnose stuff like this without actually looking at it. What’s confusing is: Slipping when you start is a sign of a warn belt or a belt that’s too long. Continuing to pull when you let off the peddle is a sign of a belt that’s too short. The only thing that can cause both issues is the pulley.

    As long as it has the same type of shifter on the fender it will be the same. You will need to confirm your belt size though. Some of these mowers have a 1/2” wide belt instead of a 5/8”.

    @markshortt2420 Opps… I assumed we were talking about the same mower in the video. 🤦🏻 The hydrostatic model will only have one belt. Only the lower end models will have two belt with a variable speed pulley system. The mower you have will be different than the one in this video. Next time I have one in to replace the belts I’ll be sure to make another video on it.

    I replaced both belts about a year ago, now the mower doesn’t want to climb up a Hill. I have to let off the gas pedal and then push the pedal again and again to make it climb. It also does this on level ground till the belt warms up. I guess I need to shorten the belt adjustment.?

  • @baldeagle242

    @baldeagle242

    More than likely, the belt needs to be shorter or adjusted tighter. I would also check to make sure the springs are all connected in the correct location, and the thickness of the belt is correct. Some mowers use a 5/8" belt, and some use a 1/2".

    I have a new drive belt but when I begin to go forward, it suddenly stops and/or slows down. I take my foot off the gas pedal and push down again and it will go. It does this intermittently. Also has trouble going up an incline. Do you think I might need to change the pullies?

  • @baldeagle242

    @baldeagle242

    3 ай бұрын

    That’s a sign of a warn belt or a new belt that’s too thin. It sucks too far down into the variable pulley and becomes loose on the drive pulley. I’d verify the new belt is the correct thickness and make sure there isn’t a stuck or frozen pulley that’s prematurely warn the belt.
