Inn my think the line of thinking is that they feel they have to have street cred to be taken seriously. They may feel that experience is the best teacher and feel they need to do these things to learn about it. Along with initially having a criminal rep, there’s also street cred on changing and having the “former wild life story.” They may think having a functional upbringing and lifestyle is boring and won’t sell records.

Drill is just a genre used to diss rival gangs and explain the street life so how’s it not drill?

Can’t play around, first rule my pops told us when we grew up on them Hills in the 90s. Even riding the U6 bus through 37 to get to Benning you had to know what you on. I remember the youngins would get out of Susa (JH) and throw rocks at the bus for fun breaking the windows. Now them youngins from back then on the scene now and ain’t no rules. What’s crazy is beef started between them hoods way before either rapper came on the scene but may be for a different reason but I hope it all stops one day. Pray for DC, stay in line.
