I've had problems with my brakes going to the floor only in the winter time when it is cold. I was thinking that it could be the booster because the vacuum hoses may get cold and allow air to escape. I have also noticed that the car isn't idling well. I was wondering if anyone has heard of this and if my thoughts on the brakes going to the floor could be the booster vacuum hoses.

Measure the height of brake. Press brake down measure. Should be a difference of number. Start vehicle, put in drive, pump brake a few times, if it goes all the way to floor and doesn't give pressure/resistance to rise back up. Park and turn off vehicle. Pump brake, check height again.

No offense you had me falling asleep for the first 2\3 of the video. That happens a lot when I watch self-help videos lol. But you woke me up at the end when you mentioned the lean codes 0171, 0174. My van has been pulling these codes for a while and now it worked it's way to the brake system. I have a vacuum leak somewhere. I hate diagnosing vacuum leaks they're a real pain in the but. The best way is the smoke method. Anyways thanks for the video. I did pull a couple helpful things out if it.

Ok so my booster passes these tests but on occasion while driving on the highway mainly the brakes will slowly apply themselves. I usually pull over and disconnect the vacuum hose from the booster which instantly frees them up and lasts for a few days up until a week or two. This problem started with the OEM booster and I replaced it with a rebuilt OEM unit which lasted 5 years problem free up until about last week where it started doing the same thing. My check valve is good, master cylinder is new, front rubber brake lines new. I have a 07 Tacoma 2wd auto no attachments on my MC or booster like stability control, no ABS light on etc. Would you say it's safe to say it's another bad booster?

can you help me figure out why my brakes don't work after I drive my car for 15 20 mins. when I hit the brake peddle after that amount of time the peddle goes right to the floor and if I shit my car off and keep pressing the peddle it sounds do like I hear air escaping out from underneath the car. it's bizzare. but then if I wait like an hour, get back in the car and drive the brakes are fine u til another 15 20 mins and then it does it all over again.

So - is this un-filtered air from the cabin going into the engine ?? . I have an 03 Envoy and need 2 feet on the pedal to stop, and I hear a great sucking sound along with RPM increase, which fights the braking effort as the engine wants to drive the vehicle forward, especially in parking lots.

Looks like this will likely be my issue. Getting lean bank 1 and 2 codes even after replacing the MAF sensor, o2 sensors, fuel filter, ignition coils, spark plugs, all of the intake gaskets, ccv/vacuum diaphragm, and cleaning out the fuel tank. I have high fuel pressure because the pump is screaming... I guess it's trying to send enough fuel to keep up. I hope I can find a good deal on brake booster. I was kinda hoping it was just a vacuum line lol. The odd thing is that my idle RPM is normal according to what I've read and I've been unable to find a vacuum leak with carb cleaner... make no sense... I'm going to check it just to be sure. could maybe be the valley pan gasket...? I don't get the error codes right away after resetting the computer, I drove out almost half a tank of fuel before it came back on...

good way to check, but u could still have an internal vacuum leak in the booster. if theres a vacuum leak in the engine, pinch off the vacuum line, and if the engine runs better, the booster is bad. simple way to rule the booster out if youre looking for a vacuum leak.

I had P0171 and P0174 codes on my 2015 highlander with only 6000 miles. After arguing with the dealership about NOT putting E85 in my car they finally took the time to troubleshoot it and discovered a vacuum leak with the brake booster. My cause was the errors came on right when I was idling to a complete stop. Air would be pulled in the brake booster and lean codes popped up. Great video and wouldn't care if you wore heals and explained the problem.Nice job!
