Wrexham fan here, no one who supports the town thinks we are anywhere near as big a club as Leeds or any number of other big clubs outside the Prem ( the list is a long one). We could be as big as Bournmouth or Brentford if we were very lucky but just being back in the league with great owners is a dream compared to the 16 years in Non league we just had.

@pentre21 Brentford fan here, nicely written. The truth is I think you possibly already are bigger than us (although most wouldn't admit it). In the EPL we get 17k each week but a lot of those are now daytrippers and fairweather fans that would disappear if we went down. When we go back to the Championship we'll get between 13-16k for games i'd have thought, and last time I checked yous were almost at 13k already. It's not all about attendances at all, look at Bradford for instance, but there's a clear demand and a higher ceiling than we've got. Wrexham is a huge opportunity and the Hollywood brothers didn't randomly pick the club, everyone who knows anything about Football knows that part of the world could have a very well supported, well run Wrexham. I went to the racecourse about 18 years ago when was played you away, always a great place to visit. Keeping a close eye on yous.

Bit unfair on Rob McElhenney, Reynolds is the cheque book but McElhenny leads their partnership in the Wrexham project. He might not be known in the uk that well, but hes well known in the states, where he was part of the longest running sitcom series in the U.S. He was the driving force with that & also with Wrexham.

Rob and Ryan have definetly raised the profile of the EFL and welcome to Wrexham doc has also raised the profile of the EFL internationally. The popularity of the EFL was happening before Rob and Ryan took over, look at attendences of clubs like Stockport or even Salford over the years have had successes in their own right. The fact that Rob and Ryan also choose a random club in the national league at the time was quite the story as people were pretty much asking why. The documentary really gave an insight to the national league and EFL.

Exactly, without the Netflix show it would be a an interesting story that Ryan Reynolds owns this football club in the lower leagues but you wouldn't pay it anymore attention than that... plenty of clubs have rich celebrity owners and don't get half the attention. People, like me here in Scotland, watch the show and then start supporting them as a secondary team because you want to see them succeed.

The true test of leadership is failure. When the next poor performing season comes along we will see how the owners navigate things. The results speak for themselves, but honestly I'm more impressed with what they're doing with the town proper and wondering if they will turn everything into a self sustaining ecosystem as they've described. They said they wanted the club/town to thrive even when their names are no longer attached to it and I for one believe them. Maybe that day won't even come to pass, but when it does I'll be looking to see how the following year affects the town.

The million dollar loss on not gaining promotion in the first year Jordan mentions wasn't ever presented as an existential threat. It was only considered a step back as the team's salary cap is determined by its gross revenue - which obviously will be lower in the National League - and therefore impede their plans to build the team. In so far as staying power to financially back Wrexham into the upper divisions of the EFL Ryan Reynolds has sufficient clout to continue at least into the Championship. Rob McElhenney, on the other hand, will logically have to tap out at that point. Of course in five years both may have made still more money which they're willing to commit. P.S. Owning a professional sports team is Rob's lifelong dream. I'm sure he's prepared to invest well in excess of what would be a prudent investment for an investor of his wealth.

What I’d say to quell the strong feelings is that those Americans who are now introduced to the EFL system should go one further and find a team you actually like, for one - most Americans have English ancestry of some kind and you could absolutely find a team based on that. There’s a million ways to get addicted to a team’s story and most teams lores are variations on ‘glittering heights in the past now hoping for a rise back up’. Take my team, Ipswich Town FC, 22 years out of the prem and now, at last, with back to back promotions we are BACK! That’s a story for the ages and one that I see many people getting behind. I study in Ireland and plenty of people in my class are now moving into casual fandom of ITFC because I’m passionate about them. Pick a team with an ethos, or a story or even just a colour that you like, and go all in. It’ll feel better and will be better for the EFL if the love is spread rather than hoarded on one team.

globally, if we being realistically, they probly are, new viewers join the internet every day, and they will see wrexham before they even know leeds and leicester are a club. they just have a much bigger platform to carry their club then the "traditional" clubs.

I think you'll get a regulator to force EPL to split revenue and the result will be they flat break off or they abide by it but other leagues in other countries will then pay more for players and will then be the foremost league. I get wanting to spread money around but a large part of me knows the money is in the epl because people want to watch like the top 6 or 7 teams on tv not the entire league pyramid. Like in my country there is a massive drop off outside of top 6 teams. There's growth in interest in but i would not say there is a massive interest in efl games at all. Not relative to major sports here or even some minor ones.

He never said it was an existential threat, he said that the goal is to make Wrexham sustainable. It's common sense that pumping an infinite amount of money in the club is not sustainable and the club needs to break even to maintain its success. I guess common sense isn't that common..

I apologize to my British friends here for not knowing who this dude is, but does he not understand how a business works? Rob and Ryan can not run a business like an endless printing press; that is unsustainable. It has to function as a business that creates its own capital and performs as its own entity, so thinking he made a lot of money selling his phone company and liquor business means he is just going to divest himself of that isn't logical. So, getting to the next promotion provides a new entry of capital to the club, which allows them to say, let's invest more money into the club. Does this guy understand that the reach outside of Wales and the rest of the UK is the only way they will have that capital to compete later on if and when they move up? This gentleman is near-sighted in his analysis of how these things work. Forgive me if I am missing the market as to how things work in this format, but

How many views do you think this video would have if it didn’t have Wrexham in the title? It’s not just the football club that’s getting an international bump because of what Rob and Ryan have done in Wrexham. And on the other point, they’ve always said that outside investment will be necessary when the team gets promoted to the Championship. The whole “not getting promoted will ruin the club” line in the documentary was a bit of Hollywood there to up the tension in the storyline. Those of us that follow the club and its financials know the how things are looking.

I lived in China for a decade and would regularly go to biggest sports bar in Beijing for games. I never once saw a Leeds fan. I assume they are well supported in Australia on account of Kewell and Viduka (excuse the spellings), but I think you'd be surprised how low the levels of support are once you get past the big clubs of the last decade. Again discounting for clubs who grew fan bases by having prominent players from a given country.

Hard to follow a club you can’t see play. Once that changes Wrexham will become even more popular- already seeing jerseys on American streets and only going to increase. I promise you not much of a Leeds following in USA without the Americans playing and/or being up in PL.

Mate, Leeds had an Amazon documentary made about them as well. This is absurd. Leeds also had a Yank manager and player, which attracted loads of Yank tourist fans. The idea that a tiny League 2 club is propping up the EFL is ridiculous. Leeds were top 20 in the world for shirt sale revenue, despite being in the Championship. They've had 16 games selected for TV this season. @@owen1563

His argument is odd, saying that because Rob and Ryan said a million was a lot to spend yearly when they were in the National League and clearly losing money doing so, that doesn't mean they can't afford $10 million if they were in higher league. Those leagues would give more money in broadcasting, ticket sales, merchandising, etc. Its not like $1 million was their budget the whole time no matter what league they're in, its relevant to money they can get back. Isn't that common sense?
