You guys have to understand that normally players leave the eredivisie for other leagues, especially the premier league. Its extremely rare for a big name (except if he’s Dutch) to come to the eredivisie. The only one I can remember in recent years are Tadic and Gotze. Being a champions league winner, captain of a good England side and of one the best football teams in recent years simply is special for eredivisie standards. Its not rocket science. Not everything is the Premier league. Ajax didnt get him so he can bang in 30 goals while dribbling past 4 players, but to provide stability in the team to get the most out of the very young talented players that are already there.

Has Simon seen how poorly Ajax have been this season? It's historical levels.

Why is it surprising? His legs might have gone a bit but he's a PL and CL winning captain. Not many of those have joined the Dutch league in its history.

The discount was already there, due to Ajax & Adidas though it was smart to make certain changes to the home shirt. Which we as supporters hated it and thus boycotted it. Nor were we happy withh 6% price hike of our scc' s, while the club wasted more than 200 million in 1,5 year time. The club was smart enough keep the discount, cause hiking it up would stir up unrest again the club doesnt wants/needs at the moment, since all tensions in and around the club just died down. No matter the price Ajax supporters always buy shirts, which is why Ajax is one the few clubs outside the big leagues that falls in the highest tier at Adidas. Im sure Ajax supporters who normally couldnt afford a shirt got a unexpected chance to get one, but as I said the discount was already there and had nothing to do with Henderson. He maybe unpopular in the UK by some people, but that matters little to us.

he is so popular cause fans are so depressed this season that they are just itches to some positivity. you can say all you want about henderson but he is a leader and has the experience this ajax side needs and his job is to mentor this young group and has the experience to set the stepping stones to make ajax compete again

As always the talent is there, but what they are international experienced players who are able to convey that experience to the prospects. Henderson is the first of two more experienced players to come, but those are two will come during the summer. Its extremely unlikely Ajax will have another season like this.

There are many, many players with more talent in one toe than Henderson but won nothing or next to nothing. He only won that many England caps because the midfield area was barren of any real English talent during his era.
