Similar But Different: Canik Mete MC9 vs Kimber Mako R7

    I have 2 Camik pistols and never had any issues with going out of battery, not fully ejecting the mag. In fact the mag release is similar to James Bonds’ ejection seat in his Aston Marten. Both eat all kinds of ammo, steel brass, FMJ and JHP in various weights. I have the METE SFT & the MC9. The issues or bugs have been resolved in the current production. All firearms manufacturers have the potential to have lemons from time to time. Even Glock, my 2nd firearm was the G22 and it wouldn’t run steel cased ammo at all, yet other G22 models run everything fed to them. To judge a company over a small number of malfunctions, especially during the first few runs of a new model doesn’t make sense. I liken it to electronics, when a device first launches, whether it’s an iPhone, Samsung Galaxy or new video game console there’s a strong chance there will be some issues but not with everyone.

    I have the Maco R7. I polished down the little pick on the trigger. It came with 2 - 15 rounds mags, and it came with the barrel ready for a can or a compensator. I don't use any of thos or an optic. It have a good trigger and overall good gun.

    Anyone still looking, I was ALMOST about to buy a Canik Mete MC9, had my sights set on it and everything. I even own a Canik SFX Rival and love it zero issues, so why not the Mete MC9 too for an Edc? Well I found 1 video talking about how the Mete MC9 around 300-500 rounds goes out of battery. Upon further investigation on Reddit and other KZread videos searching this problem, it seems to be a common problem. This along with the fact there are currently no aftermarket stainless steel guide rods available for the Canik mete MC9 had me cautious and instead leaning towards another micro compact, even a Springfield, even if snappy, choosing Springfield over Canik due to simply being more reliable in this regard. Time will tell, but thought someone should know if they are considering the mete MC9. I'd hate to have to always wonder when the gun was going to go out of battery and replace the guide rod every 300-500 rounds, not something I'd bet my life on! I see a lot of people saying instead of the mete MC9, go for the slightly bigger brother Canik TP9 Elite SC as that is pretty much everything improved (even though no longer micro compact) of the mete MC9. It's a shame, because I feel the mete MC9 trigger is great and it shoots well, and isn't as snappy as other micro compacts, but, the mag release doesn't always work well in my opinion, the grip is too bendy for me and not solid. You can squeeze the grip on the sides of the MC9 which makes the mag harder to drop out after, personally I don't like anything flimsy on my firearms. If anyone has nothing but positive reviews and shot 500+ rounds flawlessly please let me know, maybe this out of battery issue is only for a small percentage, but still, I love Canik and think this should never have been such an issue for a lot of buyers!

    have you considered filing the inside of the grip to reduce friction on the mag? At least on my TP9DA there's little "guide ribs" on the sides in there and I think when I first got the gun it had a similar issue until I had done so many reloads that the polymer got polished down. Could also be on the front or back of the magwell so maybe just visual inspection to see where it's sticking and take off a fraction of a millimeter at a time until they drop free.

    On your MC9, the plastic in the magwell is very thin. It flexes and that's why your mags hang up. Seen that issue in a couple KZread reviews. Hope it helps brother, appreciate your passion and hard work.

    The slide stop and release on the MC9 is a Walther P99 style or copy and is very nice works better than most subcompact guns and the magazines not dropping freely is a simple fix using masking tape and a hair dryer on high heat and 10 to 15 minutes of your time l have both of these guns minus the optics love both but carry the MC9 only have 100 rounds through the R7 sights grip texture to me are perfect trigger is very nice for a stock trigger less takeup than the MC9 1st trigger pull but slightly longer reset and thats splitting hairs the reset is still very good on the R7

    I like my mako quite a bit. If you are looking for a good holster I recommend the desantis slim tuk. It’s really cheap and fits like a glove. I have/had 4 holsters for it thus far. Mission First Tactical - came with purchase, not great but works. Muddy River Tactical, had to return and not impressed at all, retention hardware was incorrect/sharp sharp edges etc. CYA Path - didn’t like the wing at 4 o’clock so returned. Desantis slim tuk, fits like a glove and super comfortable. Was half the price of others.

    They're very close in dimensions, but the R7 Mako actually has a longer barrel (0.2"). Don't seem like a lot, but for two guns that are nearly identical in size, it's a good difference. I wonder if the R7 magazines are more vertical than the MC9. I've noticed that seems to be the main decider on how long the barrels are in different guns. Just a couple degrees difference between the magazines can equal 1/8" to 1/4"+ longer barrel. Some guns with really sharp angled magazines either have ridiculously short barrels or they're just excessively long handguns.

  • @deucedeuce1572
    @deucedeuce15722 ай бұрын

    I always wondered if guns with smaller ejection ports make the guns less reliable / more likely to jam. I really like the R7 Mako, but I always wondered if that would make a difference. I also don't know how it works, because it's different than most handguns and I've never seen one disassembled or any videos on how they function. I'll probably never buy a gun if I don't know precisely how it works beforehand, so I can determine for myself if it's safe and why it's safe. I really like the R7 Mako though. I think I'd choose it over the Canik in just about any case.

    Inhave a Mako, and I really like it, however i feel the mag baseplate design is a serious short coming. Its shaped in such a way that you pinky cant help control the recoil. There is no pinky extension that curves toward the muzzle and that, to me sucks. I alway prefer a forward cant on the pinky extension. This one actually cause your pinky to slip under the grip. Otherwise its a shoter for sure. First eange trip was 300 rounds with no issues at all. Flawless performance. It's so close to being the perfect subcompact. Kimber or the aftermarket needs to address the mag base plates.

    The canik mc9 has had several issues since it's release. I view it as a complete failure. I would definitely choose the mako r7 over the mc9.... If the m&p shield plus had a front rail, proper front serrations and trigger that matched the apex trigger kit it would be the perfect CCW pistol. Smith&Wesson should have updated the shield plus more than they did. I wish walther or CZ would release a good high capacity micro pistol! For some odd reason CZ decided to release a single stack with an inferior trigger and it had no slide release. I'm crossing my fingers that CZ releases a better version sometime soon.

I know I know, you can send it back to canik and they will fix it but look online. Plenty of people say even after they get it back the problems continue . So many better options for the same money.
