I have both and shot the Canik more accurately on it's first shots. I believe due to the trigger that is better. I have thousands of rounds through the shield too. After saying that, I'm one of the many that had to send the MC9 back to Canik to fix. So, the the Shield wins hands down at this point.

What was the issue with the Canik?
@warmonger1389
Жыл бұрын
@@Davyw95 it was chewing up rounds as it was feeding the next round after firing which of course was not going back into battery. Even when it was not taking chunks out of the bullet tip, it had many failures to go into battery. Also, the mag release was terrible. You had to physically pull it out, but not all the time. I tried everything one would normally do when a gun needs to be "broken in". I also put 500 rounds through it. I was planning on carrying this gun and there was no way with all those issues. We're talking at least one failure per mag, sometime 3 or 4. Sucks, I hope they fix it.

IMO that's a very fair comparison and review. I have roughly 225 rounds through my Canik MC9 and it has been 100% reliable. It has outstanding accuracy belying it's size; it shoots like a much larger pistol. The one thing I think you missed was the pinky finger extension for the Canik 12 round magazine that gives a full three finger grip. The pinky extension is an accessory included in the Canik package.

There IS a couple of things going against it tho. One of them, is huge. At least around here, we canNOT get them! Nobody has them on the shelves, our local FFLs say their distributors are backordered, and IF we can find them online, the dealers want maximum MSRP due to availability. Obviously, as the new kid on the block aftermarket support has to play catch up. That's only a temporary con tho. It will clearly be a very popular pistol, and once it gets more into circulation, more and more people will be offering holsters, and such for them. That said there's also some pros that I can add to your list. 1) Magazines. It can use the mags from it's older, bigger brothers. This includes what are considered standard magazine, and the extended mags. Don't think that there are mag grip sleeves for them yet tho. 2) Canik throws a LOT into the box. If they were charging for all the case candy that they include, this would definitely increase the pricepoint by $100-150. There is also an option (Again... if you can FIND it!) to purchase the MC9 with a Mecanik01 RDS *included* as a package deal for around an additional $100. That in itself is tremendous bang for the buck, and from what I have read and watched, the Mecanik01 is being very well received.
Yeah, Canik is pretty damn good. No one likes to think they got ripped off and I've never seen so much effort to find problems with a line of guns like people have with Canik. They fly off the shelves at shops which is really the only metric that matters in the long run. I have way more expensive pistols I still love but gotta give credit where credit is due. Fact Canik comes up more and more ubiquitously in every single comparison shows that they're a market disrupter. I like that.
The Canik MC9, is definitely at the top of my next gun list.
I have both and it comes down to which one you shoot better. The Shield is a fine weapon but I prefer the the Canik. Great trigger, it feels better in my hand and I really like the sights. Really not a fan of the 3 dot on the S&W. BTW I've ran over 500 rnds through the MC9 with 100% reliability.
Definitely one of the best reviewers on KZread.

The Shield Plus “Optics Ready” has good night sights, a slightly improved grip texture and trigger; over the regular Shield Plus. Personally I think the Shield Plus Optics Ready in one of the best carry size pistols on the market. On a “full size” 9mm; I think the Walther PDP is the best of the best, closely followed by the Canik Rival.
I really like my mc9 but I like the shield plus too.
Yes, a known " Track Record " is and should be extremely important.
My MC9 went back unfired to Century Arms because the magazine dropped out only half way. Their gunsmith fixed the mag problem and changed the recoil spring. Took it to the range, with 300 Winchester White Box 115 gr. with no problems. Shot Golden Saber, Hornady Critical Duty, and a couple of more, with no problems. There were four of us. Without a doubt, the Canik became the best liked of all the rest even if it was the smallest. The rest were: Glock 43x, Hellcat Pro, and PSA Dagger. Canik continues to impress me.
I have a Shield Plus and love it. Excellent shooter and carries very comfortably for me. The Canik looks like a nice gun. I may need to check one out next time I visit my local shop.

I just purchased the Mc9 can’t lie I’m a sucker for great value and extras !
picked up my plus for 399 today. Canik was actually 50 dollars more and the stippling on the plus was the determining factor for me. I felt like my purchase on the gun was so strong and secure compared to the canik.
The thickness is a point that can matter depending on where you carry and your clothes you wear. There is a fairly big visible difference between the two and that makes the S&W more concealable for some people. It's not a big deal for me. But I think if I were to carry that thick of a gun, I would choose a compact over a subcompact for the all around performance. But I really like the light rail option even on subcompact pistols. The S&W grip texture is my favorite and the shield has a really long track record for reliability too. But I have been admiring the Canik pistols for a while. But I chose the S&W shield performance center 45 a while back and I've been very happy with it.
I believe you can still get the "pinky" extension baseplates from S&W or from aftermarket manufacturers like Pearce, etc. as well. I've used those since the Gen1 Shield and it makes all the difference if you're carrying the shorter mag and running the larger one as your backup.

@@tangowhiskey7476 I wound up ordering the magguts +3 extension on the 10 round mag. It's similar in size to the pinky extension, but takes you to 13. In my opinion, absolutely worth the 30 or so dollars. If your going to run the extension, might as well get the extra rounds.
Thanks for the comparison. The magazine and grip are a scoshe wider on the canik, thus the 2 extra rounds. If you put a rail on the shield, it would be wider than the slide and less concealable. Go for the m&p subcompact if you need a rail.

I know there is no shortage of Canik clowns who will come swarming demanding their gun is as good or better, but it’s simply not true. Nice triggers! Good ergonomics. Feels solid and good shooters, but the jury is still out until the guns are actually put through a professional military testing program and used by professionals for years.

I like and shoot the shield plus better.ive got both
Great comparison. Would love to see a comparison between the Mete MC9 and the new FN Reflex.
I have the METE SF and like it but it is a bit big to EDC. The major disadvantage of the Canik is the aftermarket support (holsters are limited).

Great review. I bought the Shield Plus first and the MC9 is on hold waiting for Maryland handgun roster update (April 2023) My only issue with the shield plus with an optic cut is where the cut is in the slide. The shield has a ton of real estate taken up on the back of the slide for the sights. These guns are small so it’s natural to want to rack across the top. The shield plus has no slide between the optic and the ejector port. Que the occasionally pinched finger. It’s my only annoyance. Canik and Even my buddies GX4 has a finger width of material forward of the optic cut. The Shied will likely go back to no optic smallest carry in my rotation for this reason. So far 500+ rounds on the shield plus, its been flawless on cheap Winchester white box. Just know this going in since it’s not obvious in this review.
I wish Canik had spent a bit more time on the grip. That ridiculous empty space when using the extended mag isn’t acceptable and leaves the bottom of the backstrap in the middle of my palm. Much better execution with the Shield+. I’m sure people will be well served by both but the Shield+ is a better choice for me.
@youngboyharless9769

I hope they remedy that with newly designed mags. I like a full "tang" grip. They probably did it that way to save money and make it easier to conceal, should you be running the 15 rd mag. Grip is the hardest part to hide

Thanks for the excellent comparison. I'd love to see what you have to say about a comparison between the MC9 and a P365, largely because they're so different and how much do the pros or cons outweigh one another in both directions.

Canik better trigger, just as accurate but more capacity
Did I miss one of the very important numbers regarding the two pistols??? Width. The Canik looks noticeably wider than the Shield Plus. That’s one of the important reasons I chose the Shield. It’s with me every day and when you’re a skinny old fart, it makes a difference in not printing…. I put a MagGuts kit in both the mags that gives me 12 rounds in the short one with a little pinky extension that allows three fingers without increasing printing, and 15 rounds in the long mag. Performance Center trigger and porting makes a huge difference as well. The Shield prints noticeably less. The Shield lists 1.1 inches wide and the Canik lists 1.12 inches. Something doesn’t add up because the Canik looks noticeably wider to me….
@luckymanham302

The only difference in width is at the slide stop/ release. It’s the widest point of the pistol, and it blows the Shield away in ease of operation.

@@luckymanham302 First off, it sure doesn’t look like that in the pictures, and second if I shoot my Shield Plus empty I grab the slide to load the gun-slide stop is irrelevant. I have a TP9SFX that I shoot in USPSA that I did a few mods to and I love it, so it’s not that I don’t like their gear.

@@danulman8837 ok I’m just telling you the slide stop/ release is not the same as the SFX which I also own, but it IS the same as the Elite SC which I also own. It may be slightly scaled down, but it is the same ambi slide stop. Having owned a Shield also, I can positively say that it actually works as a slide release. You do you champ 👍🏻I’m not telling you or anyone how to operate your pistols.

Agreed, the canik is wider. You can tell by just looking at the mags. The canik mag appears to be a true double stack, like a glock mag, whereas the shield plus mag is more of a stack & 1/2. That's how canik squeezes in the 2 extra rounds. The shield slide also has lightening cuts down each side and is definitely thinner than the boxey canik slide. Also, no accessory rail makes the shield thinner below the barrel and more concealable. The canik has a nice trigger, but the shield plus does too.

I'm totally a "Buy American" person when I possibly can. My money is going to the new FN "Reflex" that just was announced a few days ago. Initial reviews look very good. While it looks like Canik finally has a very good conceal carry pistol, their previous small compact was a chunky top heavy gun, with a slide that seemed needlessly wide and heavy. Sure, the MC9 will be cheaper, and I'm not rich, but I've been very satisfied with Smith and Wesson, and FN pistols. I'll pay a little more, to help keep jobs here. Please don't flame me. As badly as the current administration is deconstructing our economy in about every possible way, I'm more concerned about American jobs than I ever have been. I don't criticize anyone that buys a Canik or Glock, or other foreign made pistol. You do whatever is best for you. I have a G43 and a G48 myself. It's because they are perfect for me. I do have a G19 made in Atlanta Georgia.

Absolutely. Strong American companies make a strong America and support our freedoms. Splitting hairs on minute differences makes no sense if one looses the freedoms to have guns. Ain't hyperbole, it's happening. Supporting turkey does squat for America, and actually hurts America. Truth. I want to be proud of my gun, as much as I want to be proud of my country. Holding a Turkish made gun gives me none of that. Quite the opposite, it detracts from it. If canik builds a factory here and hires Americans, like many have, then maybe. At least it isn't a total negative then.

Canik fails due to jamming problem! Canik should have been recalled!
Great reviews.
If its that close....id much rather support S&W than turkey!
My shield plus XoX after a month with a popped out slide lock pin, and my MC9 XoX the very first day with a ripped recoil spring. Waiting for the parts now, hope they will return to me fine
Really, you should be comparing similar versions. The optics version of the shield plus has 3 dot night sights, which co-witness. Appearance? You can find the shield in various color configurations. I have one with a fde grip and black slide. My optics version has a black grip and bronze slide and is damn good looking pistol. Canik is made in Turkey and looks fat. I will stick with the shield.

If you are putting an optic on it, who cares if it has night sights? Anyhow, this isn't a sight comparison video, it's a gun comparison and he explained that there was an optic ready version of the Shield available, as well as the added cost for it. I'm a huge M&P fan and Shields have been my edc for years. However, my MC9 is now my #1. "Looks fat". LOL They are the exact same size... The different shaped trigger guards are the only reason they can't fit in the same holster.
People never like the new kid. Takes awhile before he becomes one of the guys.
I have the shield and the shield plus I have never had a problem,both have run at 100 percent I would bet my life on smith and wesson
The bore axis appears to be the biggest difference between the two.
The only thing the Canik is missing is the Beaver Tail
The Canik does come with a magazine base extender. Not sure if the M&P does.
Review mentioned that the Shield would take the 15 round mags from its bigger brother, but didn't mention that the MC9 can take the 18 and 20 round mags of the SF and SFX. Also failed to mention the 12 round pinky extension for the MC9 that gives a fuller grip. Seems the Canik is the better choice. More rounds, equal or better trigger, optic ready, and a pic rail, for $399. Equal shield is about $150 more. Though a new release, the fire control parts of the MC9 is more than 5 years old and has a proven track record on pistols that preceded it.

I have both and the MC9 is definitely the better gun in my hands. It's much more shootable and accurate. Not to mention it has a rail, is optics cut and is about $75 cheaper than the optics cut Shield Plus. And the MC9 takes 18 and 20 round mags. We will see what the long term reliability is like, I have 1500 through my MC9 so far.
You do a good job on reviewing your guns but when you compared the canik the the mnp shield you didn't mention the pinky extension for the canik on the 12 round mag which gives you a 3 finger grip.
The M&P shield plus performance center takes front center stage here.
I will stick with my Masada Slim.
The only reason why I haven't gotten a Shield Plus is because the lack of an accessory rail and forward slide serrations.

Saying your personal preference is the only way on the internet...
Canik's are made in Turkey and in the US now. Both plants are ISO 9000 certified and Canik in Turkey is an approved NATO arms supplier which is no small feat. As you can tell, I am a firm believer in Canik guns as I've been running them in training classes for over 5 years now and never had an issue with quality or reliability. I own several different models and I think dollar for dollar they are superior to other top-name brands in terms of features, quality, and price. The bottom line though is whether it fits your hand and needs and whether you like them or not. The triggers are outstanding right out of the box that run neck in neck with Walther triggers.
