Silverback gorilla Haoko got a bamboo shoot and ate it. He is so strong that he broke the bamboo with ease. The way he eats is so hearty! Haoko is the leader of his troop and the father of baby Sumomo. シルバーバックのハオコ（♂29）がタケノコをくわえて体重計の上にやってきました。 足でつかみながらタケノコを簡単に折ってしまうのはさすがの力強さを感じます。食べ方も豪快ですね🦍 ハオコは赤ちゃんゴリラスモモの父であり、スモモがひとり遊びをしているのを近くで見て触れ合いたそうにする可愛い一面もあります。

Just read that Haoko and Shabani younger brother Bauwi passed away in May. He was only 33 RIP❤

Sumomo's progress since joining the troop has been amazing! She is showing herself to be tenacious as she works out all the intricacies of finding and eating food and dealing with the social aspects of being in a gorilla troop. Things may seem to be rough for her at times, but coddling her would be counterproductive...she needs to do just as she is, work things out for herself when she can and learn from her parents and siblings when she can't. Great job, Sumomo! ❤❤❤

I was shocked at how slow and tentative she was and how some of her siblings treated her, but she is full bore now and really standing up for herself a lot for one so young.

I've been watching videos of other silver backs and no one is nearly as big as Haoko. His size is truly magnificent.

It would be very interesting if zoo keepers had given the gorillas in this zoo some more unusual objects which could be interacted with to see how they respond.

I have a question 🙋🏻‍♀️,, I know Haoko and Shabani are brothers but is Shabani bigger he looks to be in the video’s it’s really hard to size them up😊.. it’s just a question and nothing else just trying to know the difference between the 2 very handsome brother’s. Thank you for your help and time.

Haoko is bigger. Infact he's the largest gorilla in Japan. He outweighs Shabani by nearly a hundred pounds.

Hi Zombie. I have some weight numbers for you. On January 3rd of this year, Shabani weighed 453 pounds. He was weighed at the zoo and the videographer was able to capture it. One month before the birth of Sumomo, Haoko weighed 507 pounds. During the time that Momoko and Sumomo were separated from the troop, it was reported that Haoko lost much weight, down to 463 pounds. The last weight I've seen on him is from January 27th of this year, and his weight was back up to 485 pounds. It looks like he is really putting the weight back on now that the troop is altogether. I don't know the height of either brother, but Haoko is the bigger of the two. Their father, Kibabu, was quite large and Haoko looks a lot like him in physical features and frame. All in all, a great looking family. In fact, Bauwi (their brother) who just died in May, was a good-looking silverback also. 🦍🦍 Hope this helps!

⁠​⁠@@Charlotte-r, hi do you know by chance what kill Bauwi? I am worried about the other brothers if it was something genetic?

It would be so interesting if gorillas somehow became more intelligent. Maybe through some sort of gene editing. Then they could tell us more about themselves.
