I remember one documentary where a silverback was basically a single dad to a young/teenage daughter - I think the mom died - and when a rainy evening came, the daughter started making a nest high in the trees. Silverback couldn't follow her or teach her how to make it, so he just kept watching her from the ground like he was worried, and after she managed to make a nest, silverback camped out under the tree for the night. But eventually the daughter came down regardless, and they spent the night hugging, and dad mostly shielding her from the rain.

Thats because alphas or dominant males in a pack are almost always the father. Packs are literally families as was found with wolves. The alpha couple is the breeding pair and the rest of the pack is their cubs.

I have noticed too that mostly the gentle and calm alphas are more succesful and longer in power too (of course they can fight the other males if they have to) and likely because the females prefer them and go to them from their own free will. Here I'm as example thinking about the alpha chimp Jambo at Twycross zoo. He has alopecia, fight scars, getting older and look very different, you would think he would get bullied but the females love him. I definitely think the females choice is a huge part when a leader is chosen and not just who is stronger and wins the fight.

I understand the meaning but honestly I’m not a big fan of the quote. I would rather refer to “dangerous “ men as just tough men because people take “ dangerous “the wrong way. And the overwhelming majority of tough men are not in some constant battle to refrain from hurting innocent people like the quote kinda suggests.

  • @rainbarfrex3434

@@Jackholiday1025 It doesn't really matter, since "tough men" basically is just synonymous with "dangerous" within this quote, it doesn't make any sensible difference. And dangerous isn't at all synonymous with aggressive, even cacti are dangerous, but I would never agree with that meaning that they're battling to be calm. You just misinterpret the term "dangerous" here.
