I've just realized that Beren and Luthien embodied trickster archetype to penetrate into the Morgoth realm. They've turned into a wolf and a bat (shape shifting) to pass through hostile territory while Luthien even tricked Morgoth into incapacitation using her beauty. That's what tricksters, overall marginal characters, do to obtain treasures that were lost into chaos (to restore order) - they dive into chaos using shape shifting and other tricks to avoid or defeat monsters lurking there and guarding treasures. Thus Myth implies that in the times of despair when chaos is prevailing over order, hero needs to turn into a trickster or perhaps to find a trickster who'd be able to survive in chaos and to restore order.

@@lfwinesroad3399 Same thing with Bilbo when he becomes a thief to steal golden cup from Smaug and discovers dragon's weakness. It's just when you learn about mythological symbolism you start to notice it everywhere ) And Tolkien surely more than anyone else knew that Myth is truth.

To be honest I already knew the story of Beren and Luthien, but it is the first time I read it, and I love it. In real world the most popular love stories ended with tragedy, but not this one. I was sad about Finrad but happy for him, he kept his oath til his death, but Tolkien told us that he is with his father. (maybe his lover too) Huan the best hound ever 😢😢😢 Now I want to read the book of Beren and Luthien. Thanks again.

Thank you for your comment. This video series is only about the published Silmarillion book, so throughout the text as well as the family trees on p.305-306, Orodreth is indicated as Finrod's brother :-D

This shapeshifting stuff is very curious... apparently, Melian, in the form of an elf, can bear children and create life. I suppose this is true of all the Maiar... so now we know how the Orcs came to be.... the Orc women, fed on fell evil meats are forced to mate with the Maiar that joined Morgoth maybe... in dark elven form? Same with the werewolves? female hounds forced to mate with Maiar in the shape of hounds. What I DON'T get is that Beren can shapeshift... he must only be able to do this because Luthien lends him some of her power.... like Melian lent much of her power to Thingol. Just thinkiing things thru...
