_Andreth adaneth, the life and love of the Eldar dwells much in memory; and we (if not ye) would rather have a memory that is fair but unfinished than one that goes on to a grievous end. Now he will ever remember thee in the sun of morning, and that last evening by the water of Aeluin in which he saw thy face mirrored with a star caught in thy hair -ever, until the North-wind brings the night of his flame. Yea, and after that, sitting in the House of Mandos in the Halls of Awaiting until the end of Arda._ @@lfwinesroad3399 I legit cried here.

I love this obscure story so much! I was thinking of it yesterday hahaha That end always gives me chills: *“but you are not for Arda. Whither you go may you find light. Await us there, my brother - and me.”* “Await us there, my brother - and me.” I like to think that was old Andreth's final thought when she passed away... This sadly obscure story, short as it may be, is one of the most beautiful, poetic, tragic and unimaginably deep works of Tolkien imo. I really would love to have met it earlier in my life... The metaphysics, theology, drama, tragic love story and bitter hopeful end... I'm certain this is one the greatest literary works out there, it's a pity it is so obscure and not well know as it deserves... I always feel... ethereal things and a certain hollowness when I move my thought too much to this story and that of Aldarion and Erendis... I hope and have faith they'll met again, some day... that story is so beautiful and unspeakably _tragic..._ Thank you for the great vid! ☺️

@@lfwinesroad3399 I love the final lines too! They marked me greatly, I always remember it. Indeed their love isn't for Arda marred... but for Arda healed! This _will_ happen one day, I have estel of that! I love how Aegnor will stay _willingly_ in Mandos until the end of the world out of love of Andreth, remembering that ineffable morning upon the hills of Dorthonion, for all the millennia to come, until they met again... beautiful, very beautiful indeed! Mandos is collecting quite an interesting permanent crowd: Finwë, Feanor and now Aegnor! Must be a family thing :-)

A new video - thank you for retelling this complex exploration of death and nature of Tolkien’s world - it is easy to see Tolkien reflecting his real world faith - of Eru entering the world - how this could done to redeem it - but also of the long defeat of the elves bound to Arda which will some day fail - Tolkien is without peer - the beauty of language- I didn’t hear it when I first ready LOTR as a middle schooler - thank you for the video!

Welcome back! I missed seeing you in the notification bell AElfwine's Road! It was such a delight to see you pop up, and thanks for doing this video great job! Agnor was a cruel sob, really hate him. I know it is harsh, but he fled out of selfishness and narcissism, unable to love the soul of poor Andreth he chose his vision of her. One who bore little resemblance to the reality of who and what she was I think. Technically the Elves were at peace so not marrying because it is war-time was a lie. And what of Idril? She had a child in war-time, same with Luthien, and Orodreth. I love this dialogue but Finrod is blinded by love for his brother and his continuous excuses for Agnor are unbecoming of him. What I love best is the gradual character-development, deep within him he believed love between men and Elves to be impossible at the start. Yet by the end he's a believer, and I always attributed him being a shipper of Beren & Luthien to be due to this exact conversation. That it was the realisation of just how poorly Agnor had behaved when he used and threw away Andreth with nary a thought to her, that pushed him to want to help her last remaining relative have a happier time of it, and achieve true love. In some ways, I think this story should have been included in the Silmarillion as a prologue to the tale of Beren & Luthien. P.S. I've watched and re-watched your Beleriand video a million times already, and intend to do the same here ;)

Seen so much of your vids. Gotta say you have one of the most informative look into Tolkien's legendarium. Great vids deserving of much more views
