My first Silky Saw was the F-180, and on the positive basis of that purchase I chose the same manufacturer when I wanted something larger. Having read and seen reviews of the Silky Bigboy Outback Saw I ordered one, and was so impressed with it on arrival that I immediately ordered a Silky Gomboy Outback Saw. My Silky Saws make excellent partners for my Gransfors Bruks Mini Hatchet, Wildlife Hatchet and Small Forest Axe. The Mini Hatchet and Silky F-180 are compact and lightweight, yet immensely capable, and the Wildlife Hatchet and Silky Gomboy Outback or Bigboy Outback pair well. Same applies with the Small Forest Axe and the Silky Bigboy Outback or Gomboy Outback. There isn't much that can't be achieved outdoors with each of these excellent tools.

I've been watching way too many of these saw videos for fun and finally someone compared saws that are the closest in length and weight! I can't tell you how frustrating it is to see a combination of the Laplander, Gomboy, Big Boy, and 10" Corona all compared to one another.

That's exactly why I did so many saw videos. I couldn't find comparisons of the same "class" of saws, so I decided to figure it out myself and try to show folks what I discovered comparing them. I'm glad this was useful for you!

For backpacking and hiking and fire, those both are great. Just ordered the F180. Thank you alot!

Carona 7 is only $13 on Amazon just got mine today and I'm very happy with it.

That was the first time a tester had full control of all sample cuts .

Glad to see the Silky remain champion; Though, I'm happy to stick with my Silky Gomboy for now. Also, if we talk about country of origin for the production, I feel that Japan has more history than Mexico does when it comes to perfecting production. I don't like free things, but it is nice of you to provide a giveaway to the bulk majority that really enjoy that aspect; I hope they appreciate the gift.

+Jeremy Madsen As to the give away... I struggle a lot with the self-promotion aspect of youtube. I find it difficult to even ask people to click the like and subscribe buttons because I sort of think folks have their own reasons to look for information and I'm happy to share whatever info I have they might need... So, asking people to follow my channel is almost like charging for the information... It just sort of goes against my grain. Eventually, I'm going to have to join the herd and do what everyone else does with the self-promotion stuff... But, until then, I think I'd rather settle in to a nice forum (and worldwidesurvival really is a nicely laid out forum with a good bunch of members) where I'm comfortable with the regulars. A give away is pretty good incentive for folks to at least have a look and find out if they'd like the same sort of environment. While it's true I hope to pick up a few subscribers, I think a good forum like that one might be a good fit for quite a lot of people who look for videos like mine on youtube... So, I'm thinking it's going to be win/win. .... Plus, even though I don't know him personally, I think LivingSurvival puts out some really good content and any of my viewers who aren't aware of his endeavors are missing out. ;)

I agree with your comment about the thickness of the blade of the Pocketboy 170, but I've learned to adapt its use by remembering that it's a pull-only saw blade. The Pocketboy 130 blade has the same thickness as the Ultra Accel 240 and similar Gomboy designs. Maybe Silky will offer thicker blades for the Pocketboy 170 in the future.

I hope they do. The Silky Professional Curve saws seem to hint at the idea that Silky might be consolidating/standardizing some of their manufacturing process. The blades are all the same thickness across all four sizes (or at least those I reviewed are). If they are standardizing a bit, I think we might actually be able to expect the pocket boy blades to end up the same thickness as the Gomboy 210 sooner or later.

I expect you could spray some type of lubricant on the blade before and during use . And some type of cleaner afterwards

nice review, although into my decision I would also consider how long these blades are going to remain sharp, and how much do they cost if you have to replace them

SK4M and SK5M steel have identicle tensile strength and heat treat at the exact same temperature plus they also temper at the same temperature. Structurally and chemically (assuming both are properly heat treated, quenched, and tempered and both corona and silky have been doing this for many decades so there's no reason to think either has an inferior process) they should retain their edge about the same assuming they cut the same materials. Both companies list replacement blades in their catalogs, but honestly I think that in this price range and considering both have plastic handles, it's probably the wiser move to replace the whole saw if it dulls to the point it's unusable. I hope that information is useful if you're thinking about buying either one.

Another good review and comparison my friend, I have the Silky 180 for a light backpack saw and it seems to be good for what it is as you said, they will perform in a tougher situation if you have to call on them to do so, and they are light and hard to notice in your equipment bag while carrying it. +Jay bird2963 Thank you for the kind words. I appreciate it. the F180 was a really nice surprise. I thought it was going to be a lot less tool than it is. That's also true for the Corona 7. I thought it was going to be exactly like the Corona 10, but it's a little better (even though they are made out of the same stuff and with the same design features). The design suits the 7 a lot better than the 10... Thanks for watching!

I do like the 7"Corona, although I don't care for the larger model, and very much prefer larger teeth for cutting wood. However, my favorite folding saw in the 7" category is still the Cohglans Sierra Saw. It is not as fast to cut wood but it is inexpensive, good quality and the slightly finer tooth pattern is much easier to use when butchering large game. Now if wood is the only consideration it would almost be a toss up what I would carry in the 7" category.

+TurtleWolf Pack Since the last time we talked about this, I've been thinking about what might be the best way to go about doing a video comparing a few saws in the under $15 category. StillmanFamily did a video like that maybe a year and a half ago or so, but I talk a lot more than he does so I'm just not really sure if I can keep a video like that down to a reasonable amount of time... It's on my mind though and on my mind enough that I've been keeping an eye out for good buys when I'm in hardware stores and box stores with camping and/or gardening sections.

betweenfiveandseven I was actually surprised that the 7" Corona cost you more south of the 49th than the $20 Canadian I spent on mine.

Do you feel the slack in the blades when the saw is open, it can be seen especially at the tip of the blade when it moves up and down?

There isn't any noticeable play when the lock is engaged.

For those that came here to compare the weight he states the weight of both at around the 16:30 mark. 5.7oz (F180) vs 6.7oz(Corona 7in).

i heard the corona goes dull much quicker after a week or 2

I will say this much at least you know how to use a cut on the pull only saw, which is more than most so called bushcraft people .

I'm waiting for my Corona 10" razor tooth, price was the deciding factor for me, the Corona was $20 cheaper than the silky f180 or pocketboy and almost a $100 cheaper than the silky bigboy. the reviews and the cutting demonstrations seemed equal or slight advantage to Corona.

For 50 cents difference, no brainer for F180

Price seems high, just got a 10 inch for 18 bucks

Yes. The 7 is more expensive than the 10 and that seems strange to me. I'm also a little put off by the price of the silky product while it has a plastic handle.

the corona has a poorly designed lanyard hole it chews thru 550 or leather.

got mine today and that was the first thing I checked, I got lucky with mine, the hole is free of teeth so my paracord will be safe. it does have the gap exposing teeth when folded but I can live with that.
