SILKEN FLAME Porcelain Barbie Doll - Barbie Collector - Review

Ойын-сауық

I'm deboxing and reviewing Silken Flame Porcelain Barbie from 1992. Really loving this gal's 60's vibe and dying for this beautiful red overcoat that's dripping with Balenciaga, Dior, Balmain, and Givenchy glamour. She's my second porcelain Barbie--yay!
Silken Flame porcelain Barbie is actually a combination of two separate outfits--Silken Flame from 1960 and a red velvet coat called Red Flare, which was originally introduced in 1961.

WOW, I need this doll in my life!! Her dress reminds me of the Cupid's Kisses Barbie from the holiday hostess line. What a shame about the stains on her neck, hopefully you'll be able to fix that. And it's very misleading of the seller not to have told you about it. Shame on him/her for that!! So happy you're back with another Barbie review. Great job as always, my friend!! :)

Hi friend! Ugh I know--so tired of lame sellers. And yes, she does look like Cupid's Kisses Barbie a bit!! I was thinking of that doll during this review but couldn't remember her name. Hope you're doing well and thanks, as always, for watching!! :) xoxo

I usually start with a little mild dish detergent soap and water on a q-tip, and then if that doesn't work I use a tiny piece of Magic Sponge, lightly. Her outfit is fabulous!

Another great video, you're making me take a look at these porcelain dolls, and I never had any interest in them before. I always collected the vinyl repros, and in fact I have the vinyl version of this exact outfit that was issued in the late 90s/early 2000s. I like to put the repro fashions on genuine vintage dolls, and I have this combo on a blonde #5 ponytail doll at the moment, and it looks superb. I like to dress the repro dolls in handmade fashions inspired by the vintage era, since the dolls don't quite have the accurate vintage look that the fashions have. I'm weird, I know. Fun fact about this repro is that it is actually reproducing TWO vintage fashions, Silken Flame and Red Flare. Silken Flame was originally sold in 1960, and consisted of the dress, belt, and shoes. It also had a gold clutch purse made from a similar material as the belt. Two years later in 1962, Mattel offered Red Flare, which consisted of the coat, pillbox hat, velvet clutch purse, gloves, and shoes. Even though these two fashions weren't originally conceived to be worn together, they've become an inseparable duo in the years since (though I think white satin Pak separates also look amazing under the Red Flare coat ensemble).

Hello! Yes, they are gorgeous dolls indeed. I, too, am enjoying exploring their fab little fashions. And thanks for the info about the ensemble. I did learn that info while researching her before shooting the video and had included that info in the video. That portion ultimately didn't make the final cut, haha. I really, really love her coat. And I'm looking forward to getting her rust spots off her neck. Wish me luck!

Definitely let us know what works in removing those stains! I'm trying to think what I would use, I think I'd try CLR to start with, but I'd be worried that it would discolor the porcelain. I'd test it on an inconspicuous area before treating her neck for sure.

im on the hunt for one now. ive only saw a photo of a porcelain barbie decades ago and now seeing one in a review form and not a photo shot ad photo is amazing saw that they'll be possible stains hopefully a doll safe stain remove or a cotton swab with water should touch it up. She seems a lot more upscale too especially with the extra ibits like the petticoat etc. I just love how beautiful her fave paint is though.

What a wonderful review so sorry the necklace stained the beautiful doll. This is my all time favorite Barbie and outfits. Any “Baby Boomer” can relate to this iconic image and relate it to Jackie Kennedy. I am hoping and praying that Mattel will recreate this doll in Silkstone for a 60th Anniversary in 2022. I have never owned a porcelain doll probably because I am so clumsy and seem to drop everything. Despot the necklace oxidation which is a good example of what jewelry can do to a doll, I really appreciate your honest opinion of everything you review Suresh. Big Hugs from Salt Lake City!

isopropyl alcohol will get rid for the stains, the shoes also split, because they are actually a left and a right shoe, well the 1962 barbies did, i'm not too sure about the repro. mom mum still has all of her barbies and clothes in mint condition, it's strange to see how different the reproductions actually are to the originals. also every look barbie had through the 60s, skipper had a matching look to go too. so camp. i'm actually obsessed with you. i'ts nice to see someone who actually takes the entire look apart (same) and knows how to hold collectable dolls

I would suggest using a gentle fabric detergent and gently hand washing the piece in warm water. Pat dry with a clean towel and lay flat until fully dry. You could run a bit of steam over the dried garment to give back it's original "bounce." xoxo

5:00 If it's rust, try a dab of lime away or CLR on a q-tip (I use "the works" toilet bowl cleaner, cuz it has the same ingredients and it's only like $1... LOL) test in an inconspicuous area first of course... Or a mister clean magic eraser wipe, cut a little square off and try that (but not too hard or for too long...) :-D (maybe before buying the rust remover, try some vinegar on a q-tip first...)

So sorry about the neck😢 it looks like it could be the start of green ear. You should take the necklace off and probably the earrings to. I think you'll be able to remove the stain. I don't think porcelain is a absorbent as vinyl. Let us know if you get it out.
