► ABOUT THIS HIKE
In November 2023 I set out with my friend / @sheety33 on a backpacking adventure down in the Grand Canyon of Grand Canyon National Park. We hiked the Escalante route from Lipan point via Cardenas, Seventy-Five Mile Canyon, the Papago Wall, Squeeze and Slide to Red Canyon. Scott Hiked out at Red Canyon while I continued solo on the East Tonto Trail to Phantom Ranch, where I spent my last night. I then hiked up via the South Kaibab Trail.
Interested in doing this hike? Check out the travel guide (www.thatch.co/guide/25qs6l72a...) to explore this route. This guide has a day-by-day itinerary of this route and explains everything you need to know: how to obtain the correct backcountry permits, where to camp, where to get water, when to go, how to get there and more. Included is a Custom Google Maps and GPX files.
This is an ambient film without dialog.

I love how much these videos focus on the landscapes and making you feel like you're there. The thing that irks me about most nature documentaries is that they'll say it's about the Grand canyon, and then show scenery for about 10 minutes (of an hour long episode), then pan to like a squirrel family or something for the rest of it. Not this guy. He really gets it!

I've never been to America, and the sheer variety in the biomes there is stunning. Some atavistic part of me is soothed seeing the raw magnitude of these places, of the reminder that the world is _much_ bigger than the age of fast travel and constant connectivity tricks us into thinking. We're microbes on the skin of the world, and we've forgotten how much we belong under a clean sky. All this to say, this was just plain lovely filming. 💚

This year mark my 21 year living in Arizona!🏜️ I’m a big fan of your and since your first hiking video, I did offer that if you are ever make it to Arizona please let me know because I have room for you to stay however long you like! But I guess that you are a very busy person! As always, you captured shots that no other can! You work really hard by waking up very early so that you can get the most out of the morning lights and to avoid crowds! I appreciate how you included Cactuses 🌵 in this film and that is very special because they are a significant part of Arizona!🏜️🌵 I feel very honored watching your films Harmen! Your works will bring Joy and Happiness to many people around the World 🌎 for generations! I am deeply grateful for your loving kindness and compassion Harmen!🙏

I've loved every one of your videos, but this canyon video speaks deeply to my love of the desert. I've hiked the Fish River Canyon in Namibia twice, and hope to do it again soon. It is rated as the world's second largest canyon, after the Grand Canyon. Please consider hiking the Fish River Canyon some time, it is an amazing experience, and your style of silent hiking is so well suited to the desolation of the Namibian Desert. Bravo to your amazing work!

My dear brother Harmen, as a strict follower of yours, I think you are a very, very good man, even though I never hear your voice. as nature lover and a walker, I watch all your videos with pleasure, I am grateful to you for these beautiful shares. You take me to the ends of the world while watching you. In my country, in the city of Rize in Turkey, there are countless routes in the Kaçkar Mountains that you should see. Since the Kaçkar Mountains are a remnant of the ice age, there are great routes without people at approximately 3000-4000 meters. I strongly recommend that you plan a very nice route of 100-150 miles in length where you will take quality shots. Even though I have never heard your voice, I wanted to do you a favor by recommending this route because I thought you were a very good man.

Harmen, your channel is church to me, and the Grand Canyon is the cathedral. The ever changing light on the panoramas, the close ups of flora and fauna (even the little beetle!), the music you choose, the comforting simplicity of your daily practices on the trail, it’s all like a sacrament for the beauty of our natural world. Thank you! It’s not enough to cover how this makes me feel, but Thank you! (I clapped like a school girl when you mailed post cards delivered by mule…last place in the US that does that. This one brought back some great memories for me as I did a 5 day hike starting a the S. Kaibab trail to the Phantom Ranch and them up Bright Angle to the Tonto Plateau trail over to Monument Canyon which is absolutely beautiful and then over to Hermit Canyon and then back to the top. I wish I had the abilities you have with your equipment and film expertise but at least I can live vicariously through your presentation and absorb myself in your incredible adventure. I did not even know there was a trail weaving through the bottom of the canyon as where you were traveling for the first half of the film. That would be wonderful to stay low in the canyon for that length of the trip. Thanks much for the adventure Harmen!

i love these films! in this one, i found his hiking with another person to be a distraction. so i was very happy that halfway through it he went his separate way. of course its nice to hike with someone sometimes. but the impact the of the film is way more profound when he is alone.

Love you man, a big fan of your cinematography. One suggestion is that it will be better if all static video shorts have some motion, like zoom in or out, left to right or right to left. You are showing nature in big frame instead of your face. In Pakistan 🇵🇰 here we have nature vloggers who present the nature only in blurred background of their face. Thanks for sharing such a great video.

Beautiful hike as usual. Harman I have a suggestion for a future hike. The Kalalau Trail is an 11-mile stretch of coastline that provides the only land access to the Napali Coast on the island of Kauai. The trail is considered one of the most challenging and rewarding hikes in the world, offering breathtaking views of the coastline, valleys, and waterfalls. The trailhead is located at the Hāʻena State Park, and hikers must obtain an advanced reservation for entry, except for those with valid camping permits for the Napali Coast State Wilderness Park and Hawaii residents.
