Signs that Corn is Ready to Harvest

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

It's not always easy to know when to harvest corn, especially if you're a beginner. In this video I show you both signs that your corn cobs aren't quite ready and how to know when they're ripe for the picking!

I’ve searched for 2 years of when to pick the corn. This is the only video that’s actually told me everything from signs to how to check. You must be a teacher during your time off from gardening. If not, then you’re still very good at instructing in the correct manner!

Your window depends on what variety you planted so this info is not quite accurate. The variety I grow has a week to 10 day window and I have almost no issues with overripness. I know society loves generalities but a 3 day window for all corn is not reality.

Just retired and am starting gardening. Figured corn would be a good choice, seems like a beginners crop. Planted 48 seeds, 2 per hole, and got rid of the weakest one from each hole when they were around 4" tall. So, I have 24 stalks producing and needed to know when to harvest. Thanks for this video.

You are spot on with this video. That's exactly how my grandpa taught us on his farm. We usually had our corn feast on the evening that the corn was first ready. Grandma would boil the salted water, and then once the water neared the boil, grandpa would pick the ears for all the family to eat, and the corn went from the stalk to the pot within 5 minutes. I also remember eating some corn raw.

Some varieties of corn have white kernels. The same pressure test will apply. But if your corn is a yellow variety, the kernels will be white when they are very young. Once they start to fill out, the color either changes to yellow or stays white.
