If you're interested in growing your own food, you're in the right place! I'm Jill and I garden in Arkansas, zone 7b. As a beginning gardener in 2013, I found it difficult to find the most basic information for beginning gardeners. Now with ten years of knowledge and experience from my 2500+ square foot garden (consisting of raised beds, ground beds, containers, and a greenhouse), I hope to help beginners find success in their own food gardens. Although I now grow most of the vegetables and herbs our family eats throughout the year, I am still learning, failing, and testing, and I share my ongoing garden journey here as well.

Where your placing you bed dig a foot down then fill that hole with your twigs wood chip logs then put your ground soil on top. If you have grass I dug square slods piled them up jango style to air but covered in the dry spell the grass died and i then crumbed the squares grass free
Looks like a great product but even though I don't expect ro save money by growing my own produce, that is just way to much to spend.
Phương pháp hay , tiết kiệm diện tích.
How to protect them from squirrels or other critters?
Wow great video! What else do you like to grow?
Great video! By the way aren’t acorns toxic to chickens?
Great information. Thank you. Greetings from Northern CA.
Hello from Mesa Az!!!Oohh wow! Thanks for the valuable information 🥰🙏🏼
Don’t put text at the bottom
just a comment on milorganite that i didnt see commented on. that drugs from pharmaceuticals from all the people that take whatever pills and drugs perhaps ending up in the finished product as well. i would never use it
9:56 You called the Gold Coast Okra “The Burmese” at the end of your slicing video.
Add Choppee to your Burmese list. These are my two favorite ones. They don’t grow too tall and the pods can go longer and stay tender more than other varieties. Choppee has no ribs so you can squeeze more into a jar if pickling.
Can you use the onion greens once the just start to bolt?
Yes but they are generally large and tough.
I missed the mothers day sale, but love watching your video. Next year for sure. Love the variety you planted.
Thank you for this information. Have you tried Health Kick? It’s a nice compact plant that provides tons of firm, meaty, large Romas and has extra lycopene. Also I add crushed egg shells to each tomato plant when planting to thwart blossom end rot. That might help you too. Not enough calcium in the soil can cause it.
You could make your own system for far less. I saw another system like this that had adjustable sprinkler heads so you could ensure even watering everywhere.
Very good video! 👊🏻🌻👊🏻
You can cook the broccoli leaves as you do collard greens. It cooks quicker than collards and the flavor is sweet! Enjoy!
Please more content like this!!! I am pulling my onions this weekend and I no idea what to plant in their spot next.
Depending on your climate -- the same things in this video! I'm replacing mine with peppers.
i appreciate your thorough explanations. Well done and God bless.
Great tip to start so early next year, thanks
Nice! Been wondering about what to plant after Broccoli and early cabbage finishes
I started my granex onions way too early. They sat in trays for months. Planted in the middle of February and just harvested my first onion today. Atlanta area. First time trying to grow onions. Lots of lessons learned. Will improve next year.
What variety of broccoli was that? I have not had any luck getting large heads
Castle Dome has been my go-to. Jacaranda (purple) and Gemini also did well this year.
Your broccoli looks great!🌺🌺
Zone 7b north carolina and apparently I can't grow long day onions..... yet my days get over 14 hours at a certain point.
I always try to buy heirloom and open pollination, but I've got to say there's one tomato that I like growing, and it's a hybrid that is sun sugar😊
Excellent information, thank you!
I purchased two and I'm sorry I spent the money
I loved hearing how the GIM grids came about. I like the square ft gardening method. I think using thar method takes less time and can get seeds or transplants in faster. I just wish they would have more sales on the grids. I can only buy a year. Lol❤️🌺
Wow you just changed the whole game with this information. I’m very grateful and will be utilizing this “do nothing” approach when it comes to aphids and watch how my beneficial population thrives. Thank you 🙏🏾
Would you be so kind as to tell where you get your "mix" from? I now live close to Ft Smith AR and am interested in buying in bulk. Thank you! I started following you because you are in Arkansas, now I love your information!
I buy from Russellville Lawn & Landscaping. They get the compost from Arkansas Composting in Little Rock, which also sells to the public if I’m not mistaken.
@@thebeginnersgarden thank you so much!
I wash my growbags in the washing machine.
My Cherokee purple tomato plant is really tall and puts on blooms, but no fruit. Do you have a recommendation for a fertilizer or something to make it produce tomatoes? Thanks a million. Love your KZread channel. ❤
It's likely a pollination problem. Sometimes it's due to heat, sometimes to rainy weather.
Just did four of these for my wife an I did the exact thing you are doing here hope it's a success
Who is a good herb seed supplier?
I’ve had good success with all of the main seed companies I buy from. White Harvest Seed, Baker Creek, MIGardener…
STOP THE MUSIC
Hi. I wish I could show you my garden now! Gods blessed us well.
so great to hear, Tami!
Beginner's Garden - Journey with Jill, Your videos always make me happy, so I subscribed!
Excellent video excellent audio excellent teacher!!
Thank you! Great vid!
I grow Asian sweet potatos, they are very sweet and tender, I usually plant them in June when gets hot, they love it...Thanks Jill
Double win……by composting you have soil to feed your garden and you don’t have to go to the gym….✅
I enjoy behind the scenes videos. Especially ones like this with ideas I can try in my garden.
Thank you!
Thank you for a great video! Your plants look great in the green stalk. We have two and haven't good luck with any plants. I have followed the company's instructions exactly?? Not sure what the problem is.
Im so greatful for you and your videos! I just started my garden today and im learning as fast as i can haha.
Great idea, but these are insanely expensive. I'd need $2000 worth. I use drip tape, which costs $40 dollars a roll.
Personally like the self watering 5 gallon buckets that can be netted for broccoli, cabbage, Brussels etc. no bugs to ruin other plants! Looks great for greens, but not large climbing crops.
I am now considered zone 7a in northwest Arkansas. I planted green magic broccoli this year in my raised bed. I am trying to decide when to harvest. Heads are about 4-5 inches wide but we are supposed to get up to high 80’s temperatures this week. Any advice?
I'd just keep an eye on the heads and harvest before they start to separate. I harvested mine a tad too late. They separate fast when the heat rises.
Anise hyssop is great for pollinators and I love it in tea.
