Dear Phillip and Justin, Once again , thank you for this excellent history lesson. I look forward, in anticipation, to each episode. I am so very glad you are doing this series. If I might add something at this date, it is also interesting how the Greeks keep changing. Look what they did in the 19th century when a certain cantor of the St. George's cathedral issued a book calling it the Typicon of the Great Church (which had been by that time a mosque for over 3 centuries). In this so-called Typicon he went on to chop up matins and the divine liturgy to the extend that they lost any sort of sense of sequence or rhythm. Whenever I have been at a Greek church I was always struck by a feeling of the unknown. What are they going to do today? What short cuts are they going to take and what are they going to overdramatize as only Greeks can do. The strangest practice is heaping up the Katavasii at the end of the canon. However there are many more. They just cannot seem to help themselves. This panache for innovation occurs even amongst old calendarists. No wonder Bartholomew cannot help himself in his messing about in Ukraine. It seems to be the Greek way of trying to correct the supposed mistakes of others and not seeing one's faults......Stephan in Ottawa

I have not studied the Georgian Church, sadly, so I do not know.

In 1666 Nikon schism The sighn of the cross was changed, as well as the direction of making the cross was reversed. you should have mentioned. The old rite old believers were persecuted terribly for maintaining their religion unchanged. In 50 some years after 1917 their numbers were reduced from over 20 million to less than 2 million. Under Lenin hitler and Stalin slaughter. Only the ones who were lucky enough to escape abroad survive today. Also there are survivors in Russia .

Just a question to you guys! Are you guys Old Believers? just wondering?

Do the old believers with a heirarchy still canonize saints? I've noticed when people separate with larger groups, Catholic and world Orthodox, they tend to not continue the practice. Sedevacantists don't canonize, Anglicans stopped calling any new saints after their founding, and so on. However, old believers are unique in that they retain the bare bones, and more, to canonize a saint. The holiness, the heirarchy , all they lack is a massive population to pick new saints from. I know you guys are old believers so nothing I'm saying is meant to be offensive. I'm just genuinely curious as an eastern Catholic. If true where can I learn more about these righteous men and women? Thank you 😊

The Old Believers united with the Church obviously accept all the modern saints. The Old Believers in schism, usually canonize their own new saints - so yes, they keep canonizing people they believe to be saints.

Why would Jesus use the ICXC blessing sign in icons? I could see why it would be more appropriate for Jesus to use the 2 finger blessing. Is the 2 finger blessing that the old Rus used also refer to ICXC ?

Does it really matter? Did those first Christian’s even have a liturgy like we see in our church now. Does anyone know what the first Christian liturgy look like? I would love to see the history on the first 100 years after Jesus was crucified and risen. I am only asking because I love the Orthodox Church and would love to see all orthodox Christian’s under one umbrella. In saying that, I also do not want to see Christ’s church watered down. What do our saints say about such matters?☦️🇨🇦✌️🙏
