Edinoverie (Old Believers) part I: Origin and history

Today we start a new mini series about Edinoverie: Old Believers that have united with the Russian Orthodox Church. We will go through the history of Edinoverie, its origin and challenges it faced. In future episodes, we will examine the situation on the eve of the Russian revolution as well as the modern situation.

    Interesting. They deserve some sympathy. As do True Orthodox Christians, some of whom like me are under Synods (e.g. the Tikhonites) which are entirely canonical descendants from the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia (ROCOR). Sadly I'm not aware of any Edinoverie under canonical True Orthodox Synods, but would be delighted to be proven wrong.

    I believe that what you refer to as the concept of "union" in the Catholic church (at 9:00') is actually defined as "full communion with the Pope". To Rome, that is the sine-qua-non, the non-negotiable position: the pope is THE head of the Christian faith. That is the stumbling block against any kind of rapprochement between Rome and all the other Christian communities. Mine is not a theological argument pro or against, it is purely linguistic.

    You can check "starovery lipovan" channel but it's just mostly old videos
