So you actually get a slightly more shallow depth of field with the 18-35mm f1.8 on a super 35mm sensor than with the 24-70mm from 28-52mm. And of course don’t forget the 50-100mm f1.8 which is also a slightly better choice if you want maximum sallow DoF at the wide end on this kind of zoom lens. There is no real full frame look. The Signature Primes have the same amount of shallow DoF on an Alexa LF as the Master Primes on a super 35 Alexa. They’re even a stop slower, which yes can be made up by the better signal to noise performance but that means you might not be able to shoot at base ASA with the LF and Signature Primes where you would have been able to with a super 35 Alexa and the Master Primes. Yes there’re some lenses on some focal lengths which surpass every other format and have the very shallowest DoF but they’re also hugely unpractical to shoot with. I’m not saying there isn’t a place for full frame in the world, I am a massive fan of IMAX 65/15 which has the most shallow DoF of any format at the wide end. But I do not agree that full frame is an evolution of super 35. It’s the industry pushing something new to sell new stuff.

Can you confirm if the Sigma Lenses work with the FX9's stabilization gyro and internal lens corrections (chromatic aberration and distortion compensation)? I've had a difficult time confirming this, even from Sigma, who simply say that it will work on mirrorless cameras but can't guarantee everything will work on camcorders.

I also would like to know if we can use the stabilization gyro. Did you ever get an answer for this Robert?

Hi, I am intresten in the sigma 24-70 for my FX9, but I am confused. Should I get the E mount version, or the FE mount. There seem to be 2 different mounts..? I understand FE is for full frame and is the version I should buy using my FX9, but your saying the E version also covers Full frame..Please help. Thanks

Sigma does an incredible job at balancing quality and price. Between Sigma and Samsung/Rokinon, there’s almost no need to buy anything else...unless you’re into vintage manuals like Contax, Nikkor, or Leica lenses.

Sigma really do make some good lenses, they're not the lightest out there. But good nevertheless. Dan
