@@liamoharavideography It does as long as you make sure the firmware of the lens is updated to the latest version 👍🏻 Zero issues so far with it after the update 👍🏻

Thank you so much for video!! Changed my mind about buying Canon Efs 17-55 2.8. I'll probably take Sigma. I was very worried about stabilization, since I always shoot videos with my hands.

Sigma is way better with optics, if you ask me, and it is f/1.8 instead of f/2.8 👍🏻 just remember to update the firmware of your Sigma 18-35 once you get it, and the IBIS works like it does in this video! 👍🏻 And thank you for taking time to write a comment, means a lot to me!

Glad to see this test done since I have an R7 in the mail and the decade old 18-35 is still practically my best lens (and what a lens!)

Yeah, that was meant to show how much it actually takes the shakes away with the new firmware, so no one can say it doesnt work 😄

1:08 "only adding weight" Which inherently adds stabilization. Bolt a 10lb weight to the bottom of your camera and see what it does to your video footage vs. no weight. Of course it won't keep the image centered on a single point, but it will almost totally eliminate fast jitters. Same principle as adding ballast to a wildlife tripod using the hook on the center column. (Which is not to say the weight of your monitor frame is actually going to make a big difference, but "technically" any added weight does contribute to stability.)

@timovehkaoja Ive been shooting on a Panasonic and so I have just always had excellent ibis experience... so it feels strange when people talk about poor ibis! But glad the firmware is updated and brings a much better experience!

@@BrownieBits450 The problem was not the IBIS itself, but the way Sigma 18-35mm works with the IBIS. :) The lens came out like over a decade ago, and back then IBIS was a distant dream 😄 the firmware update of the lens just brought the lens to 2023 from 2012 😄

@@BrownieBits450Yeah, tell me about it! It awesome to see that they care about their customers! But after all, this lens just happens to be the best APC-S lens 👍🏻 and it is widely used in movie industry too.

The best lens for Canon EOS R7 👍🏻 worth saving the money and the wait! Just make sure to update the firmware once you get it.

I finally sold my rf 35 1.8 and get the sigma 18-35 :) now I have to improve my skills :)

Subscribed! I've got the R7, but not the 18-35 f1.8 ART, yet... This info all helps me solidify that I need to get this lens as opposed to one of the much more expensive Canon offerings that has IS in the lens. That update seems to help a lot. Thanks!

@@coachsherrod8916 I have not used a speedbooster and TBH, I don’t think i have never needed one 👍🏻 So I’d get just the adapter, but if you plan on making video content, look into the adapter that fits the VND filter. 👍🏻

The latest, I believe I mentioned in the update video, but if I recall right it is 2.03.

Hi, just recently came across your channel. Love your content btw. I also have the R7 but I am currently using the Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 VC. The autofocus doesn't quite work for me (focus hunting) so I would focus manually most of the time. And also because I do videos often, the autofocus noise just makes it worse 😅

That tamron is a bit noisy. I use this Sigma 18-35mm usually for all of my talking heads and it focuses fast and silently :) highly recommended!

Already answered in IG, but the lens is very sharp even when shot wide open. It is an ART series lens, so it is the top quality of Sigma lineup :)

Technically cages add a bit of help with stabilising footage..right?

Well, basicly, but it does not improve it in the same way as gimbal would. I could hang the camera without the cage, but the top handle makes it easier 👍🏻

It depend on your budget and also on your preference. 16-55mm is a wider focal range, but the combination will be more expensive, as the XT5 is $2000 and R7 is $1500.

Yeah I've been looking at the fujifilm and its just a bit over my budget, I can get the canon for £1300 now body only, and the sigma your talking about in this video for £600. Which adapter would I need to use the sigma on the r7?

It is actually kinda hard to chill out with that stuff as that stuff has also been my stuff for years.. 😄 and believe me, I have been thinking about the same thing and that I should do things a bit different because of the reseblence but that is how I have been as a person even before I ever started making videos 😄 When I first watched PM’s videos back in 2019 or so I was like ”Wow, I have a freakin’ brother”.

wow you actually meant the lens software update! I thought you were talking about the R7 😅 The other video of yours with the Helios lens, is the IBIS working properly? What adapter do you use (with the chip or not)? There were those reports that IBIS doesn't work properly after switching off/switching on the camera if the focal length was set manually. Any experience? Could you test it with the old good Helios? 😁

@@dr_noobio Yeah, it is the lens that needs to be updated 👍🏻 there is so much electronics in the lenses these days that you can actually do that 😄 The Helios update video is in the works, I will be making a IBIS test video with it. I use a regular M42-EF mount and then I put it on the EF-RF mount, so no chips or any electronics the whatsoever 👍🏻 for me the IBIS has been working fine that way, but I’ll show it in the video once it is done :)

tengo el sigma 18-35 con la R7 y eh realizado fotos y videos... Los resultados fueron brutales y nada que envidiar a una full frame. Ojala Canon pueda dar paso a los fabricantes de Sigma para los lentes RF

I have been making videos for this channel for three and a half years. Do you really think that all that time, ever since december 2020, I would have just been copying Peter McKinnon? Do you know how hard it would actually be? This is the way I am, every single day, no matter if I am on or off camera. And also, I am from Finland, so english is not my native language. This is just the way I have always spoken english, just like I learned it by watching Friends and other tv-shows back in the day.
