Я купил это стекло, выбор стоял между Кэнон 135 мм и Сигма 135 мм. скажу, что качеством сборки, снимков доволен полностью. Снимал при 12 000 исо, есть шум немного, всё исправимо в редакторе. Один недостаток, тяжеловат, но это с чем сравнивать...все проблемы уходят, когда берёшь в руки гири...

I think it's a great idea to use wider/shorter lenses more often. In my opinion it's great for artistic wildlife photography to include more of the animal's environment, to tell more of a story (plus the f-stop is literally unbeatable).

Totally agree! Going wide is underrated in wildlife photography. And yep you really can't get much better on f-stop 😎

Great video, I've been using Canon's 135mm f2 and Sigma's 85mm f1.4 for a few years now since seeing an image of an urban Fox taken in London on the 135mm Sigma you have, if you can get close to the subject the portraits are stunning! Keep up the good work!

That’s awesome! I actually highly debated getting the Sigma 85 1.4 to try but declined for this one at least to start. I bet those Fox photos are fantastic

I have this lens in the EF format, and I use it for portrait, and god damn do I love it

How do you feel about the Canon 200mm f2 and f1.8 lenses. Obviously bigger and heavier, probably not as sharp, but would that extra reach and shallower DOF compensate for the reduced sharpness?

I haven’t tried those, but I’m sure those would be fantastic experiences as well. A different type of “wideness” as 135 and 200 are quite a bit different feeling, but I’m sure when it’s right that 200 would be an unbelievable tool

Around the 100mm mark seems to be the perfect focal length to capture the scene while still having the subject as the main focus point, getting close is the only hurtle. I have seen bird photos at 16mm or 24mm but usually a camera trap is used so it completely different. I have a 24-105mm lens I could challenge myself to get close to wildlife with, would be a different challenge that's for sure

I agree, around 100 is a pretty nice sweet spot, occasionally I wished I had wider, but many times not. Even though 135 was wide, it’s still tight enough to hide aspects of scenery that were unappealing if needed which was nice

Great review, super creative of you to try something new. The results were extremely impressive! I've had that lens on my radar for a while now, it just looks sooo nice to shoot with and gives such a unique look. However being on the R7, I feel like my 70-200+speedbooster (=146mm f2) gets me close enough already that it wouldn't really make sense for me to get this lens now. That combo is fun to use though, for sure! Of course, I'm working within the bounds of apsc with that "146mm f2" in reality it's closer to an actual 70-200 on FF. Seeing what a true 135mm f1.8 can do on FF, especially at high mp, is just wild! Super inspiring dude, keep it up! Edit: unless... I speedboost the 135mm? Hehehe. Must resist, I don't need it 😂😂

😂😂 yea it’s tempting, but yes you’re right! Those are similar results, so tempting but probably not worth it 😂 thanks for the compliment though! It’s been super fun using it and like you said, the results are just unbelievable! Cool to hear you’ve been working with that setup you mentioned

No kidding.. I've had this lens since I first bought my a7IV and I never thought to try taking it out for wildlife photography. I'll have to give it a try next time I go out!

It's definitely a good change of pace, man. Like using my Olympus 12-40 2.8 for nice environmental shots when I do snake and turtle photography. It also gives great perspective on how snakes navigate when they move. Good choice on the 135 on your S1R.

First of all: your shown photographs are great. Maybe i'm wrong or i missunderstud, because my english is not good enough. In my opinion not only the aperture (f-stop) is important for the depth of field, but also the focal length. I think a comparison with a 800mm 5.6 would be interesting.

Thank you! You’re right that would be a good comparison. Unfortunately I don’t have one on hand, but I’m sure that if you use the full 800mm that lens is undoubtably better… also 17x the price lol.

Since Sigma have been gradually replacing their HSM DSLR design lenses into DN mirrorless lenses, I suspect we will see a Sigma 135mm DG DN F1.8 Art sometime soon. This will possibly arrive with reduced weight, increased focus accuracy and who knows, maybe even further image quality advantage. Worst case it will make this one cheaper :)

It’s pretty hard to do Astro at 135 though, unless you’re doing very long exposure star trails you’ll almost unavoidably get them at that focal length

without a doubt the best 135mm AF in EF and AI mount. sigma art was the stat of the art around the last live-part from reflex camera era. But for manual focusing, guy, try a buttery smooth 100% mecanical lense like many already exist. With an AF version, temperature variation, you always have a risk from miss-contact between ring motor and ring-focusing. Canon lenses are more prone to that. But never ever have any focus pulling problem with mecanical lense.

Great, now I want a 135mm 1.8 😅👌
