Just but the 16650 lithium batteries they fit it perfectly . Saves a lot of messing around and potentially damaging the I.R.

I've been using a 16650 in mine and it seems to work fine. The 18650 may be easier to get and last longer, but they are both 3.7-volt lithium batteries. I can't see myself trying to drill out that tube to accept the larger battery.

"Do your drilling and put it back together." ????? Did I miss something? What exactly am I supposed to drill? It's a great video on how to disassemble the light, but I'm failing to see how you are modifying the light to hold a different battery.

I’m guessing this is a joke video, where someone gives you a bunch of nuisance tasks and leaves out the final most important step.

If you don't understand he left out one thing, which is the 3/4" drill bit size to ream the inside diameter of the battery tube because the OD of the batteries is different, and you think the rest is "nuisance tasks", you REALLY should be taking your shit to a professional gunsmith and not relying on your faulty sense of mechanical aptitude. You're going to put your eye out one day 😆

It would be a great idea if the battery voltages were the same but it seems like a bad idea to lower the output by 40% with over 2 volts less to the light.

Not really the case normally. And even if it was, it wouldn't be different for very long due to the voltage sag on CR123s. 18650 have a significant advantage in energy density and maintaining energy output. That's if the IR emitter is direct drive. Being that the light has modes, it's most likely a 3v emitter on a buck converter. In which case, you're not going to lose any light output at all and gain a huge advantage in runtime.

If using an 18650 battery the number tells you the size. It's 18mm diameter and 65mm long.

So good video.but you just stripped it down.and you say drill it out.how big a drill bit would you use and which end would you drill from.

3/4" and from either side. You just want to enlarge the inside diameter is all so drilling from either side is fine.

18650 battery is 18mm diameter - the battery number tells you the dimensions. 18mm diameter by 65 long. So drill a 19mm or 3/4"

Use a tape measure or a ruler or a micrometer to measure the OD of the 18650 battery but one guy says it's a 3/4" drill bit to ream the tube out with. Other folks say to use a 16650 lithium battery because it fits without reaming at all. It looks like the 18650's have about twice the mAh rating as the 16650s so your run time will be alot longer with the mod that requires reaming to 3/4" and uses the 18650 batteries.

The number 18650 tells you the size of the battery. 18mm diameter, 65mm long. A 16650 is 16mm diameter and 65 long. Button batteries are the same so a cr2032 is 20mm diameter and 3.2mm thick.

Since nobody's piped up in a year I'll give my 2 cents, lol.... IDK offhand exactly. What I do know is that you can do the math pretty easily. Look at the mAh values for 2 of the batteries that come with the light and add those together. Then look at the mAh rating of a single 18650 battery the mod will allow this light to accept and whichever number is larger is the battery that will last longer. I don't know any of this offhand as I write this but I do know that both of them will produce the same amount of light on the target so that's not a concern. Only the mAh rating matters when it comes to longevity of power so use that math to figure out which one will last longer... then let me know because I'm too drunk and lazy to do all that work for myself right now but I'm curious enough to make you do that work for the both of us😁

123 batteries are 3 volts each for a total of 6 volts. 18650 is 3.6 - 4 volts so it's a lower output but longer runtime.
