Sick Sheep? What to Do!

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Always always always: consult your veterinarian.
Sick Sheep? What to Do! In this video Tim discusses what to do when you encounter a sick sheep on your farm.
While performing a pasture walk, we noticed this 3 year old Southdown cross ewe acting lethargic. We pulled her off pasture immediately and gave her a generalized health check. This video represents our generalized health check and treatment plan.
Tim is not a veterinarian! While we encourage you to see Tim if you need a heart, lung, or vascular screening performed... it’s best if you consult your veterinarian in regard to your livestock.
All of the medication we used in this video can be purchased over the counter and does not require a prescription. Contact your vet for appropriate dosages and always follow medication directions.
Our videos are made for viewers just like you based off the comments and questions we receive.

Thanks , Tim agree you guys make it look easy. Question is it normal to have a swelling at injection site at neck after a shot. What to do if you do get lump there after a shot? Thanks.

Some medication and vaccinations are known to cause injection site swelling. CL vaccines are well known for injection site reactions. It’s also pretty common to see some injection site swelling from CDT. In my experience, this is nothing to be concerned about and should simply be left alone. Abscess formation would be a serious concern that should be addressed immediately. If the raised area is hot to the touch, draining, etc... that would be the sign of an infection and you would want to talk to your vet. With all this being said, when giving injections, always do your best to keep things clean.

Hi David! General health and welfare on goats and sheep are the same. Most medications are the same, especially regarding antibiotics. If you have a specific goat issue or question feel free to contact us. 👍🏻

Hi , you said repeat the dose after two days if it’s not feeling good .you repeat to give everything you gave her ( b complex , la 200 , survive and dr max ) ?

  • @LinessaFarms

    @LinessaFarms

    3 жыл бұрын

Hello. I would repeat the dosage of LA200 regardless if they are feeling better or not and the other medications if the sheep were not feeling well. A typical dosage of LA200 would be every other day for a total of 3 doses. The b vitamin complex and survive can be given every other day with no consequences as well. Dectomax is an injectable wormer similar to injectable ivermectin. If I have an animal with a heavy worm load, I consider giving wormers initially, again in 2 days and then once again in a week. Hope this helps. Remember, I’m not a veterinarian and make sure you check with your vet before giving meds to your livestock. Thank you!

Hi! So we have a baby which has been sort of having a seizures. Would you happen to know what could be causing that and what we could give it? We live in an area where we haven’t been able to find a livestock vet.

That’s difficult to say without more information. It could simply be a neurological defect and in that case, there isn’t much you can do. You can send us an email letting us know how old the baby is and a brief history of symptoms and their onset. Customerservice@linessafarms.com

Hi, Julie. Sorry to hear about this. Unfortunately, there a a ton of things that can cause issues such as this. There are several potential causes for a sheep being unable to get up. Some possible reasons include: Arthritis or joint problems: As sheep age, they may develop arthritis or other joint problems that can make it difficult for them to stand or move around. Injury: Sheep can suffer from injuries such as fractures, which can make it difficult for them to move or stand. Infection or disease: Certain infections or diseases can cause weakness or paralysis in sheep. Nutritional deficiencies: If a sheep is not getting the proper nutrients in its diet, it may become weak and unable to stand. Poisoning: Certain plants or other substances can be toxic to sheep and cause paralysis or other symptoms. It is important to have a veterinarian examine your sheep to determine the cause of its inability to stand. Treatment will depend on the underlying cause and may include supportive care, medication, or surgery. In the meantime, make sure the sheep has access to food and water and is kept in a comfortable and safe environment.

I would avoid any hard foods if you can and treat him with antibiotics. Depending on what you have, I would consider 2 rounds of injectable antibiotics.

@@muhibsheikh2334 consider taking his body temp and seeing where he is at. If his body temp is over 103.5 F he is probably still fighting off an infection. Walking around with head down can also be a sign of nasal bots which would need to be treated with some kind of oral or injectable medication for parasites.
