The bagpipes Troy (from the U.K.) plays are the Irish Bagpipes. They use a bellows under one arm instead of having to blow, so the player can sing and drink beer, lol. They are called Uilleann Pipes or Elbow pipes and are really hard to play. Troy plays many instruments for Nightwish and joined officially the same time Floor did in 2013. Troy is also in another band project called AURI with Tuomas & Tuomas' wife Johanna.

Once again you got the theme right off the bat: A lament over the loss of childhood innocence. Troy's cool instrument is an ancient Gaelic bagpipe called Uillean Pipes. The more well-known Scottish bagpipes are blown and most people think they sound like a dying duck and would rather put it out of its misery. But these Irish bagpipes are pumped with a bellows under the arm opposite the bag. They have a much more hauntingly beautiful and melodic sound. Troy says that they are extraordinarily difficult to play and that one has to be just slightly insane to want to try. .....Except that she doesn't have a Scandinavian accent. She's Dutch. 😀 And speaks absolutely perfect English with utterly no accent at all. She also sings in 8 different languages: English for her day job, her native Dutch, plus German, Italian, Spanish, Latin, Finnish, and Swedish. I think she is just really excited here about playing her role in the song. She has a unique and uncanny ability to immerse herself in the emotions of the poetry, whatever they may be! 😉

Someone beat me to the punch about Floor being Dutch! It was surprising for me to learn that 93% of adults in The Netherlands speak English! Floor’s husband is Swedish and they live in Sweden, so she also speaks Swedish a lot.

Audiences in South America are just unique. Everybody including the band seems have inordinate levels of fun, that is what music should be, not forgetting the technical mastery the band always has in its live performances. The good stuff.

Troy Donockley is playing the Uilleann (elbow) Irish pipes. The bag is filled by pumping bellows under the right elbow and the bag is squeezed under left arm. Very difficult to play. He also sings and plays various wind and string instruments and is from England 🇬🇧. He guested from 2008 and became a full member with Floor in 2013. Just consider that Floor had been ill and completely lost her voice on this tour and was recovering here.

About accents. Floor (lead vocals) is Dutch, Troy (uilliean pipe etc guy) is English and the rest are fom Finland, like me as well. 🙂

They are chanting the Countries Sports Cheer. Soccer mostly. Floor is almost 6-6 on stage. What a front person. Freddie and Floor. A I them singing "Somebody to Love"

Great reaction! This performance made me love Floor even more. Even though the band is Finnish, Floor is Dutch and speaks perfect English. That’s just how her voice sounds on stage.

A finnish band with a scotsman (Troy) and a Valkyrie Goddess from Holland (Floor) performing an irish jig in Argentina! Just Nightwish doing Nightwish things! Nightwish is their own genre and no other band comes close to the level they are at. Never, in the history of music entertainment, have a set of skills and talent collided in such powerful manner. Tuomas is a true genius as a composer and with lyrics.

Tuomas loves Disney. He made a solo album about the life and times of Scrooge (McDuck), and the cartoon artist Don Rosa appeared in the official video.

Troy has been in the band since 2013. He is a multi-instrumentalist. He is playing the Irish version of bagpipes. It is called a uilleann pipe. It does use a bellows under one arm to fill an airbag under the other arm. Floor is actually Dutch. She has a southern Dutch accent.
