Sibiu. A city with narrow and multicolored streets, places steeped in history and very welcoming people. We are at the very heart of Romania, in Transylvania, in a multicultural area that has always impressed with its varied landscapes. It is no coincidence that the city of Sibiu is one of the best European tourist destinations.
Sibiu, a city with a medieval flavor and one of the most beautiful and cleanest in Romania. Above all, after the installation of a German on the chair of mayor of the city, things started to move in Sibiu; renovation works, an impeccable town centre, illuminated and enhanced facades, increasing number of tourists. Hats off, Mr. Mayor!
Located in the heart of Romania and bathed by the Cibin River, the city of Sibiu charms the traveler with its air of a medieval town that invites you to explore in all seasons. With its air of yesteryear, Sibiu is a veritable open-air museum, with houses dating from 1380 which stand on the edge of the narrow streets, the stairs leading down to the "lower town", the imposing Evangelical church whose construction lasted two centuries, at the Grande and Petite Place surrounded by centuries-old buildings.
The German rigor and the Latin spirit, alert, playful, have created in Sibiu an original and picturesque way of life. But Sibiu is also a true cultural center of Romania. It was here that the Transylvanian Association for Romanian Literature and Culture was created in 1861, which took charge of the creation of the Library. An important cultural role also fell to the publication “Tribuna”, initially directed by the great Romanian writer Ioan Slavici.
When we say Sibiu, we also say the Brukenthal Museum, inaugurated in 1817. Directed by Baron Samuel von Brukenthal, the museum today contains not only a remarkable art gallery, but also collections of archaeology, d history, ethnography and natural sciences.
An integral part of the Brukenthal Museum, the History Museum operates in a representative building for Romania and for Transylvania, as it is a large secular Gothic monument. From 1850 to 1948, this building housed the town hall of Sibiu. We changed the decorations to highlight the importance of the time, but, after the revolution of December ’89, we decided to modify the structures. Baron Brukenthal was an enlightened spirit of the Age of Enlightenment and he began to collect all kinds of art objects and paintings from his youth. Part of the collections belong to him. In the meantime, they have been enriched with a number of archaeological objects.
Let’s now head to Dumbrava Sibiului - the Glade of Sibiu, where the Museum of Traditional Civilization of Romania has been created, which houses all kinds of tools and equipment specific to the workshops of the master craftsmen of the region. If you are more of a fan of natural beauty, follow us to the National History Museum which houses a rich collection of zoology and botany.
So, dear friends, as you can see, Sibiu is home to many treasures. It's up to you to come and discover them. Frankly, it's worth it, you have everything: museums, atmosphere, buildings, parks and let's not forget the mountain station of Paltinis, about thirty km away, absolutely fantastic which offers breathtaking panoramas.

Excelent! Nu îmi vine să cred că ați ajuns şi la noi în micul nostru burg! Noi ca şi localnici suntem bucuroşi că trăim într-un oraş apreciat de foarte multă lume şi suntem incântați să privim prin ochii altor oameni imaginile atât de cu cunoscute ale micului nostru orăşel, ce era odată foarte liniştit, dar din păcate inustrializarea şi aglomerația urbană in continuă creştere l-au transformat intr-un mic coşmar! Apreciem toate filmările d-stră şi ne bucurăm de ele ca şi cum am fii şi noi prezenți acolo! Mult respect şi multe alte locuri minunate de vizitat!

Thank You for posting this video. I came across this video by mistake, but now that I have viewed the video in it's entirety - am delighted that I did see it. I loved virtual travel to Romania - I love seeing the local people in their native dress and I loved seeing a close - up of how they live in the rural areas. It was helpful of you to zoom in on the thatched houses and insides of people's yards, to showcase how they live life day to day. I am thankful for my Tv - set at eye level and close to the floor, enabling me to feel like I am walking along with you. Good work on the videography - which is an art all by itself. In the future videos it would be awesome to videotape yourself eating with a local family or dining at a cafe with family and friends so we viewers can see how the townspeople live day to day. While on your walk, stop and order coffee or other beverage and / or go into a bakery and buy a pastry and tape your transaction, or buy something in the local market. Get inside the culture and zoom in on the close up life of these wonderful people. Thank You for taping close up of the inside of their churches, I love and feel the ambience of the Holy Church and love the centuries old paintings and carvings within the church walls - I love seeing how people worship God in their own culture. You did an amazing job filming this video.

Until 1920, hungarian Erdély (Forestland - or Transsylvania) and also this city had nothing to do with "Romania" - it was Hungary for thousand years, and the city was built by Germans (Saxons) invited by the Hungarian kings (including the beautiful Lutheran church). The Romanians are Orthodox, so they have nothing to do with the medieval cities and Catholic and Lutheran churches in Transylvania.The Wallachians (from 19.century they call themselves Romanians) first appeared in Erdély (Transsylvania) at the end of 13.century. Gothic and Baroque churches were built in Transylvania only by the Hungarians and to a lesser extent by the Saxons. Transylvania is now a forcibly kidnapped, stolen Hungarian territory!

It was under the rule of the Agathyrsi, part of the Dacian Kingdom, Roman Dacia, the Goths, the Hunnic Empire, the Kingdom of the Gepids, the Avar Khaganate, the Slavs, and the 9th century First Bulgarian Empire. During the late 9th century, Transylvania was reached and conquered by the Hungarian conquerors, and it became part of the Kingdom of Hungary in 1002. It was an autonomous principality within the Ottoman Empire in the 16th-17th century. Transylvania was restituted to Romania in the first half of the 20th century". It wasn't out choise to be conquered and ruled by austro-hungarians, or any other. Yes the legacy will be well maintained in modern Romania!

You even never had a country when Dacia existed. Then you was create as a tribe (and still exist on this days ) by Arpad bacsi in the year of 895 ac. So, stop dreaming as everywhere junkies (conquestors) let some things behind in every country they'd invaded, and let's enjoy the beautiful remains and forget the reason of why they'd build in my country and not in your country because life it's short and not worth to spend it arguing over a false claim....

Die Stadt ist wirklich toll, aber zwischen 6'22 und 15'44 ist alles im Freilichtmuseum. Das Eisenbahnmuseum hätte eine Erwähnung verdient ebenso wie die grandiose Umgebung der Karpaten. 😊

All of the ancient homes & buildings look so similar to Swiss ancient village houses & the ancient yeoman homes of the British Isles too of the early medieval period - not too much different - humans have the same needs, and were surrounded with the same materials - stones, reeds, grasses for thatch, trees to cut down for wood of various thicknesses, bark for shingles.

Until 1920, hungarian Erdély (Forestland - or Transsylvania) and also this city had nothing to do with "Romania" - it was Hungary for more than thousand years, and the city was built by Germans (Saxons) invited by the Hungarian kings (including the beautiful Lutheran church). The Romanians are Orthodox, so they have nothing to do with the medieval cities and Catholic and Lutheran churches in Transylvania.The Wallachians (from 19.century they call themselves Romanians) first appeared in Erdély (Transsylvania) at the end of 13.century. Gothic and Baroque churches were built in Transylvania only by the Hungarians and to a lesser extent by the Saxons. Transylvania is now a forcibly kidnapped, stolen Hungarian territory!

During the late 9th century, Transylvania was reached and conquered by the Hungarian conquerors, and it became part of the Kingdom of Hungary in 1002. It was an autonomous principality within the Ottoman Empire in the 16th-17th century. Transylvania was restituted to Romania in the first half of the 20th century". It wasn't out choise to be conquered and ruled by austro-hungarians, or any other. Yes the legacy will be well maintained in modern Romania!
