Neutrinos have been observed changing flavor between electron, muon and tau. How does that prove that neutrinos have mass? If they do have mass, then how can they arrive at the same time as the visible light from super novae that are many light years away? I would like to hear a general discussion about complex organic molecules in the Oort Cloud. I suspect that the cloud is full of them, but I have no evidence. We found amino acids on the Murchison meteorite. Meteors come from comets. Comets come from the Oort cloud. How best can we research this? Was the oblateness of the Earth greater a billion years ago?

lol - where have you been - if on youtube then yes - they hide it, but everywhere else its huge. I can literally find that if I talk with 10 random people in public 2 already KNOW its flat, 4 more are currently in the process of researching it and I might add tell me that they are now leaning FLAT - and another 2 on top of them which know it's a thing but claim to be indifferent - and all 8 of those people say that they KNOW at least one flat earther - usually a family member or close friend... So there's THAT!

@ste emiplan Can you use google translate to translate into English? Or ask a friend to help? I guess you have never seen a model of the solar system. Almost all science museums have one. Go to a science museum and try it out for a day. You show both lack of ability to write coherent sentences, you lack basic understanding of celestial mechanics, and you lie a bit. That's why you end up with this incoherent mess. And you haven't by far proven that the light from stars cannot be seen on earth. In fact you should try to go outdoor during a night. Ask your mummy how late you can stay up, and select a cloudless night. If you look up you will see planets and stars, and sometimes the moon.

I would love to see a single flat earth model that explains and predicts seasons, eclipses and tides.

grapy so you dont think battling scientific ignorance is important? i'd love to hear what you believe is important, because scientific ignorance is what leads idiots to think the pandemic is a hoax, to think Bill Gates wants to implant microchips in everyone using a vaccine, to back a proven dishonest moron instead of doctors and scientists that actually study. flat earth is the beginning, and yes people are right to get upset about morons spreading ignorance. perhaps you need to learn to think critically, there's something important you can do. here in the United States, the republican party has discredited teachers and education so much, and defunded education so deeply, that we are no longer near the top in science or math scores. this leads to a lack of innovative thinkers and inventors. it leads to a lack of critical thinking in the populace, which leads to tax raising and budget raising ronald reagan being hailed as a tax cutter and budget cutter. this leads to people supporting an open racist for president. this leads to our nation falling farther and farther behind the rest of the industrialized world in manufacturing, as well as freedom. this is just a part of why it is important to not let people like flat earthers spread stupidity. if you dont think that's important, then maybe you need to rethink your position.

Never in history of humanity have people been able to think as freely as they're doing it now. That freedom comes with the price of some inconvenience. Thinking loudly is very important to give words to those who don't speak for themselves or are too passive. I think Internet should be taken rather seriously. Trolls aside, what people present here might be the moat true state of their thoughts, to be made public which should be presented publicly and anonymously in my humble opinion.

Globe Earthers are too egotistical to acknowledge that they've been conned.

The one thing that I could never find an explanation on by Flat Earthers is how did a flat earth come into existence. We know how the spherical earth was formed through accretion but I cannot find any Flat Earther give an explanation on how a flat earth was formed.

Experiment: Pick 2 towns in America that are 200 miles* apart and connect them with a straight line**. Pick 2 towns in Australia that are 200 miles* apart and connect them with a straight line**. On FE map these 2 lines will be different lengths. How can 200 miles* be shorter in the northern hemisphere than 200 miles* in the southern hemisphere? It can't happen. 200 miles = 200 miles... ALWAYS...EVERYWHERE. Here ya go, I did it for you. 200 miles apart in America: Buffalo, NY to New Hartford, NY = 194 miles*** 200 miles apart in Australia: Wilcannia, NSW, Australia to Canbelego, NSW, Australia = 191 miles*** * Use any distance you want but make sure the towns in both countries are east/west of each other (on a globe). ** If these lines aren't straight enough for you, then there's no hope. You're gone. *** If these values aren't close enough to 200 miles for you and you want to use that to prove me wrong, then that's even more pathetic than simply admitting you're wrong. Good luck on that one... Now it's time for the bonus round where the prize is the truth!! Perth, Australia to Sydney, Australia = 2448 miles, driving. Draw a straight line on FE map. Los Angeles, CA to Florence, SC = 2477 miles, driving. Draw a straight line on FE map. The Aussie line is 83% longer than the American line. How can that be? Maybe the American road has a LOT more turns. OK, fine. How many miles by air are both routes? Aussie route = 2049 miles & American route = 2192 miles. So by this logic (and no, I am not a Flat Earther), in a primarily American *Christian* society, if people who believe in other religions (Buddhism, Islam or even Jehovah Witnesses) would go from door to door to 'persuade' others to join that particular religion, is that also considered an "unhealthy situation", because those religions have far more other cultural ideas than the Christian religion. The norms and values within those religions are sometimes completely against Western society. Still, they are allowed to practice it, build their places of worship and actively 'recruit' people to join them. But nobody stops that.

Flat Earth Model? The thing cannot argue 2 scientific points simultaneously, let alone work as a complete model. The fact that they could potentially influence others, for example, who unfortunately are "missing a few sandwiches for a picnic (God love them) is very totally uncool. Plus some make money from other stupid people. Profit for misinformation, its a really frowned upon thing these days.

You would think some topics wouldn't even be up for debate. Like the scientific fact there are two genders or that the earth is round. How can you even take people who support such absurdities seriously.

Those words at the beginning of the video are so true. If a person is good with words and acts very confident, that person often wins the debate. I had a debate with one like that once, it was incredibly frustrating because I was right and he was wrong. But I couldn't make him, or the ones around him, see that because he wasn't stumbling over his words like I did and he sounded smart. (To be fair, he is pretty smart, but he was still wrong this time). Extremely annoying that is.

There was a flat earth debate about a year ago between a famous flat earther, Dave Murphy, and a scientist (may have been an astrophysicist, I can’t remember). Dave said all the usual flat earth crap we’ve all heard a thousand times but the science guy clearly wasn’t prepared for all the nonsense coming out of Dave’s mouth and stumbled his way through the debate - plus English wasn’t his first language to make it worse. So, of course, Dave won the debate easily and all the flatties took it as a win. Does that mean he was right? Hell no! Dave is a moron. But he was charismatic and well rehearsed with his flat earth bs.

Just as Neil pointed out: there is no sense in debating people who are mentally incapable of comprehending the scientific method. I will not be answering any of the bait comments directed toward me. All of the answers to your questions can be readily found online with actual photo and video evidence, as well as the graphs, charts, and maps to prove it. You just choose to ignore the logical websites/tv shows and focus on the fringe conspiracies... I also find it hilarious that instead of answering the question about the "triangular flight path" from the North pole, you simply dodged it by saying "well nobody ever makes that flight, so it doesn't matter"... oh yes. That sounds like the scientific method to me... 😂

Thank you! I've bee saying for years that debating is no way to settle a disagreement. In a debate, you can't change or modify your position, you can't go away and come back later when you have new information, you can't do actual experiments, and you can't agree to disagree. It doesn't reach scientific truths. It doesn't change anyone's mind. It doesn't even settle courtroom disagreements, because courtrooms have rules and procedures that aren't reflected in formal debates. It doesn't even really affect the way people vote, because most people's minds are made up before the debate even starts. The only thing a debate is good for is a "game" played by high school students. Plus, when you debate someone who clearly has no basis or expertise, you present the other person as an "equal" to yourself, and in the process, partially validates any ridiculous position.

You didn’t shut down anything he just refused to debate the topic. If you wanted to shut them down you might mention something like it’s impossible to create a flat map of the earth that’s to scale.

The thing about flat Earthers is that there's this one huge elephant in the room that they just can't address: they're unwilling to show us the edge of the world. In a flat world that's gotta be the main focus, Earth having an edge. Go find it and document it. Pool your money together, use your superior knowledge of physics and geography to navigate yourselves to the edge and document it. It's such a huge and obvious thing to show to other people that before you do that nobody should lend an ear to your crap. But of course nobody's willing to do that. I can already see all the conspiracy-laden excuses why they can't do it. The real reason for not doing it is simple, they won't do it because they're afraid that it'd be a simple answer to whether or not they are wrong. They can't risk being wrong.

He didn't chicken out. He never agreed to a debate in the first place. He declined because Joe Rogan just penciled Tyson in without consulting him beforehand. Would you agree to do something if someone volunteered you without consulting you first? Probably not, right? Neither would I. So why should Tyson?

To add to Josh's excellent reply, Neil doesn't debate flat Earth theorists for the same reason he doesn't waste his time debating Concave Earth theorists, or Hollow Earth theorists, or crop circle theorists, or ISS hoax theorists, or alien abduction theorists, or Electric Universe theorists, or UFO theorists, etc. So *why should Neil make flat Earth theorists a special case for debate?* If Neil had a history of debating leading theorists of many other conspiracy claims (including the conspiracy theories that you don't believe yourself) then sure you could argue he should do the same for flat Earth theorists. But that's not the case, therefore there's no reason for Neil to waste his time debating people who have their own view of reality and their own agendas, where their 'theories' has nothing to do with science and nothing to do with the scientific method :-|

Gravity is proven but scientists don't know why it exists, it just does. Magnetism is proven but scientists don't know why it exists, it just does. Light is proven but scientists don't know why it exists, it just does. To explain magnetism we have theories of magnetism. To explain light we have theories of light. Likewise, to explain gravity we have theories of gravity.

Asking Tyson to debate Dubay (that’s his name, by the way, not Dubai which is a city) about astrophysics is like asking my 8 year old son to debate Gareth Southgate about international soccer strategy. Pointless.

Science supports the Bible and vice-versa: Earth is round While some conspiracy theories might say otherwise, science has confirmed the shape of our planet as round. This is also mentioned in the Bible: "He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth" (Isaiah 40:22).

The argument is that the moon (and the sun) are only 5,000 kilometres away... But you have a good point. Along with the stars rotating CW in the Southern sky and CCW in the Northern. And about 50 other points.

Even if the earth is flat you would never ever see anything through that much haze of atmosphere I’ve looked through plenty of telescopes at distant object in the sky and on earth and if you are looking at something on the ground but distant it’s like looking through water after so long. Extremely hazy. Look at those images of Area 51 from that mountain peak what 15 miles away or so, you can see the base but at the same time you see absolutely nothing it’s so hazy and obfuscated.

His opening logic about debates should also be applied to politics. Oratory skills have often been valued over actual capability to lead and govern.

David Smith No because air is a fluid. A thin fluid to be sure, but still a fluid. 7400 miles separate NYC from Mount Everest. 7400 miles of thin fluid is enough to distort the image, making it impossible to see at that distance. Everest is shrouded in the clouds, in addition to the fact there are two dozen rain storms raging in between at any given time.

David Smith Because in the flat earth model they are not billions of miles away. They are in the firmament, about a few hundred miles up. I know it’s a lot to take in. I went through the same process of disbelief.
