I should've thought about it longer but life doesn't go the way you planned it. So I'm making this comment. Rather than making a dramatic reaction to this or a nonchalant one, I just want to thank Moonbyul for simply making this song. I'm sure it's affected a lot of her fans in more ways than one and it couldn't have been easy to release this type of song even though we're getting more kdramas with lesbians nowadays. I'm still enjoying the song :)

Even if this wasn't describing a lesbian encounter it is more explicitly erotic than K-pop usually gets. Moonbyul is very brave to do this. Moonbyul and all the members of Mamamoo have always supported Lgbtq in words and actions. I do think people also need to give a lot of credit to Seori. It's Moonbyul's song but she's participating as the partner here. Also there was a strong current of this in G999 and the two songs are supposed to be part of a story arc on the album, so props to Mirani as well.

Thanks for the reaction! Funny how you were questioning "from my waist to where?" Apparently Solar had the same question and kept asking Moon Byul on her live stream (and later IG story) to explain "where is there?. I just found it hilarious. Trust Solar to make MoonByul explain those lyrics on a live stream LMAO. Hwasa also commented that the lyrics were dangerous and did post the danger sign on IG. Clearly you guys are on the same mind 🤣 Anyway, just wanted to say thanks for all your content. I'm a relatively new moomoo and your channel has always been a great source of info for me. I have a theory. That the song is about a reflection of a fist time experience with a women or a daydream/fantasy being with a women and every time the choirs come up she remembering what she said to her or what she wants to be said to her and that's why she can't see her/ignores her. At the end when moonbyul sings she is then trying to make it her fantasy come true with the girl.

It's actually her trying to distract herself from being turned on. That's why she's doing a lot of things. The hint was the tv. Moonbyul turned it off but Seori turned it on again. There's also a part at the end where they stood up at the same time and went to the bed and sofa together and sang to each other, you probably know what these mean.

I do agree that no one should presume anyone’s sexuality and I absolutely think we need to respect celebrities’ privacy always. The latter is extremely important. But when it comes to queerness, it is pretty sad to think of the reality that “coming out” explicitly, in the way we understand it in North America, is just not going to ever be a possibility for the large large majority of kpop idols who are queer. So I guess if all us fans are waiting for idols to tattoo “I am gay” on their foreheads in order to believe that they are gay.. guess no one will ever get to be understood as gay then lol. I think it’s important to note that just short of tattooing it on their forehead and publishing a 40 minute vlog about their coming out story, people often do try to communicate and express their queerness in all sorts of ways and that is important too, and worthy of respect and validation. The logic of “we shouldn’t validate anyone’s queerness unless they explicitly come out” actually invisibilizes “queer” sexuality pretty much anywhere outside of Western countries which have developed the language around what we understand to be coming out narratives. It also invalidates any potential queer lives historically, because hey most historical gays never made an official statement about being gay 🤷‍♀️ honestly, it’s a bit heartbreaking to think about. What a great injustice. To not only deal with homophobia on an everyday basis during your life, but then in death, to still not have your truths acknowledged… simply because you should have tried harder to be clearer, regardless of homophobic constraints and your own safety. If you wanted to be understood as gay, you should have explicitly told us that you were gay. No way around it.

  • @NynahNinaReacts

Yeah it is sad. I've had to think about this for a couple of days. Because people really shouldn't care what your sexuality is except for your partner lol. But I think we as fans can just support them by listening and saying "what a great song". I don't think there's anything wrong with us not knowing what their sexuality really is. This lifestyle is something they chose and should understand that they won't always be understood by the general public. What really matters to idols are the people close to them. That's why we're called fans, we can only take care of their front and they need their close friends to support the back. If we're too close, they'll feel uncomfortable with the strong wind blowing in their face and if we're too far, then they won't feel our impact. At the end of the day, Korea normalizing lgtbq to the general public is their fight and I don't think other foreigners like me should force Koreans to do anything (unless they're killing gay people, then i'll voice my opinion) because it's not my place. The culture there is different from mine. So I'd rather support silently and not make big waves for them. I'll just ride the ripples Moonbyul makes until she turns the tide, mainly because I don't know Korean lol so I don't think my opinion matters much anyways.

@@NynahNinaReacts thank you for your response! Apologies for not seeing this until now. Totally understand. Just want to say that I made the comment above to add a little nuance and context to this conversation. Absolutely no one should be sending Moonbyul messages or comments about how they know she’s gay. That’s creepy and weird and annoying and not at all what I’m suggesting. But what I mean is that everyone is entitled to THINK what they think (including you and I). This is important for people to hear, especially young people. I also wanted to add context because I get the sense that people sometimes equate “comprehending queerness” to “sasaeng behaviour.” So to clarify: refusing to comprehend what queer artists are trying to communicate about themselves is not a morally superior position. Being critical of heteronormativity and being media literate does not make you a sasaeng. Young people, queer people, and all people, should be encouraged to think for themselves. Let’s not allow homophobia and heteronormativity to gaslight us into thinking that our comprehension of queer expression is meaningless. These are not meaningless assumptions we are making about a complete stranger we’ve never heard speaking before. These are educated guesses that take into account the art Moonbyul has created and the messages she has publicly shared (through more than just words) over the past seven years. We may be surprised to hear “SHE said,” but I don’t think any of us are surprised that it’s MOONBYUL who has put that into a song. So why do we have to pretend to not understand what that means in the context of who she is and what she has been very publicly saying as loud as she can for the better part of the past decade? Ultimately, everyone is entitled to their own opinions here. I just wanted to add a little nuance to remind people of that.

The K Will song is called Please Don't. My favorite lesbian kpop song is I'm Your Girl? by Khan. I"m with you. Imo it's childish to interpret songs as though they're about the artist unless they specifically state "This is my story and is based on my life." Nobody would do that with an actor who plays a murderer or a Joseon era king or queen or any other character they play. This is a song about sex and desire and tho it's depicted as a lesbian story the feelings are universal. Straight people will relate to it just as well as lgbtq+ people. As you said it's a baby making song, even if the sex you have isn't going to result in a baby. I found the MV confusing as well. I thought Seori was a ghost and that's why MB couldn't see her and why Seori was able to turn the old tv into a surveillance camera, tho that theory had nothing to do with the lyrics and made no sense. At the end it looked to me like Moonbyul couldn't take it anymore and broke character when she looked at Seori, then crumpled up in embarrassment. I saw another theory where MB is thinking of Seori throughout and that's why we see her even when she's not there and then at the end she finally shows up. I dunno. Neither version fits the lyrics but they were going to have to tame it down somehow or the MV would be censored. If they had matched the MV with the lyrics it would be X-rated. 🤣

With the MV I kind of saw Seori being a side of Moonbyul (as in, the character she's playing in the MV)...perhaps her conscience, but maybe like her inner-confidence? An aspect of Moonbyul that is detached due to something going wrong. And so, you see the two not really interacting, but rather Seori is watching (perhaps worried, but with her expressions perhaps more like she's biding her time, waiting for her other half to come around and be happy again). This doesn't neessarily match up with the song/lyrics itself, but as we all know MVs don't always. Or you can think of the song as being from the perspective of deep longing, rather than immediate passion or attraction, like for a lover she just lost.

Oh! Casi me desmayo, saludos desde México!

Honestly the first two pre releases are both lesbian songs and she seems to be hinting that that's the direction this album is going. This is huge. As much as a lesbian myself wants her to be gay, I honestly don't think she is. Maybe bi but if she was I don't think she would hold off this far in her career. Kpop has a lot of gay moments but at the end of the day it's just skin ship and it sells very well to fandoms.
