Interdesign, Inc. Constant Tension Shower Rods work much better. Size the opening. Adjust the rod 1" larger and tighten. The constant spring tension is set. Compress the rod when putting in place. It can be moved at any time if necessary. John Carney, The Inventor of the rod.

What is the reason to have that plastic bushing on the rod? The rods that I installed in the past never had that.

My guess is they put the plastic bushing on the rod so the shower curtain hooks won't hang up when sliding past.

iScaper1 Thank you for the reply and you are probably right. My real concern, though, are all the complaints about the newer shower rods rusting in time. I guess that you have to buy a real brass or stainless steel rod to prevent that and not the cheap rods. And I do prefer the telescoptic ones since you can adjust the lengths with the tension. Sure, the shower curtain hooks do get stuck with them when you move the curtain over this type of rod but I still like them. You just have to move the curtain slowly.

Just remember clockwise shortens the rod and counter clockwise lengthens the rod 🙂
