Show Don't Tell In The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by Suzanne Collins

Think of an object and an action someone can do with that object to show the character's feelings, rather than directly stating the feelings. This is called the objective correlative.
I'm a novelist with two acclaimed books (Trafficked, published by Penguin, and This Is Not A Love Letter, published by Disney-Hyperion) and I help busy people of all ages finish books. Penguin is publishing my next book, based on my teaching: The Busy Writer's Guide to Finishing a Novel in 100 Days.
For live classes and feedback, kids and teens can find me on Outschool.com. Adults and older teens can reach out through my website, kimpurcell.com. I also run the Mom Writer Workshop and the Busy Writer Workshop. New classes starting in September! See you then!
