Show and Tell, 1977 Commodore PET
Showing my '77 PET and taking about the cosmetic changes that the PET went through in the first few months of production.
I've collected data over the past couple of years to try to figure out all of the different changes and when they happened.
There are dozens of different case badges, three different cassette tape drives and even a few keyboard variants between the start of production in late 1977 and the end in 1979.

I have a much later model - would love to have one of those!
Your PET is in fantastic shape, especially being for such an early model!
She's a beauty; Thanks for the interesting guided tour.
Excellent video! Love all the research you did. Bravo!
This computer is art.
Great explanation, especially the bit about the bezels going from black to blue back to black again really cleared things up for me.
Ah, this brings back memories of junior high school where my fascination with computers started with one of these beauties.
Wow. That was a time. I owned a commodore CBM 4032 in 1981. and i loved it. so many fond memories come up. Wow. Such a beauty, the PET.
Really nice machine
I would not be surprised if this thing inspired the computer terminals in the Fallout series..I JUST learned about this thing..and if you've ever played the Fallout games (particularly 4) the computers can use things called Holotapes (themselves based on the HoloTapes of the real world RCA SelectaVision HoloTape player) and in Fallout 4 when you look at these monochrome black and green computers you can see a slot to insert the cassette of the Holotape which also starting in 4 can have games stored on them.
Thanks for sharing.
Thank you
Very good
It's always good to see someone take good care of these machines. I'm a C128 person myself as I grew up with one and now have two with one more en route from Germany for replacement parts.
Great video! Thanks!
That looks like a SSN on the back. 116 would indicate it being issued in New York. Remember when SS cards used to say "not to be used for Identification". My dad engraved all of his tools with his SSN

@@HutchCA I didn't see the diagonal! If it WAS an SSN, the person is still alive, or died after 2014 as that number doesn't show up in a SS death index reverse search.
That’s nuts!
I have one of these up in my attic that doesnt work. hmmmm. Thanks for the information
Hi there. I have a commodore pet in my attic, which I can’t get to right now. I have a model where the cassette is attached by a cord and separate. I plan on selling it but there’s so many of them at different prices I have no idea what to price it for. I used to play the cassette games as a child (one called Eliza I remember) your computer looks awesome!

The value will depend greatly on which model it is and the condition it's in. If it doesn't have the tape drive built in, it must be a model made after 1979. Probably a 2001-N, 3032 or 4032. Best to get it down from the attic and dust it off. Check the model number and general condition, like rust and scratches. Don't try turning it on without doing some basic checks first. Whether it works or not won't generally affect the value. Cosmetic condition is more important.
I've a blue bezel chiclet 8K PET with a white key datasette. My datasette ports have vias connecting top to bottom. The badge is a sticker with silver text. My motherboard has a bodge wire connecting pin 1 of the chip at H9 (74LS244) to pin 6 of the chip at J9 (74LS00). The motherboard had a sticker on it, but it's gone now; has QC 13 stamped on it, and 18602 (I think) in black marker. №: 0030267, assy: 320132, 6540 ROMs, 4045 RAM.

@@HutchCA The SRAM appears to be original, even the video SRAM is Ti TMS4045-45NL, P7818. Oddly enough the markings on the CPU have rubbed off. Oh, oh, and for the lurkers, be gentle with the printing on the chiclet keys, I nearly cleaned off two keys to the bare metal 😔
This was very interesting. I like the combination of the black tape drive, black bezel and chiclet keyboard.
This is a great and in-depth introduction to PET 2001. Thank you! On Saturday I bought my first PET via ebay and since I do not know much about it I was looking for information and came across your post. My serial number is 39031, the board says 202 but the date is not readable. What would you make of this?

@@HutchCA Exactly so, but modified to 220V and with a memory expansion board. I am curious if I can make it work again..
