SHOULD YOU TRAVEL BY TRAIN IN ROMANIA? THE ANSWER MIGHT SURPRISE YOU...

We love traveling by train and we do it every time we can. There's something special about it...
This was a long travel day and we got to ride two VERY different Romanian trains. And despite being initially shocked by the second one, the universe reminded us how lucky we are. It all depends on how you look at things.
We hope you enjoy the video! Thanks for being here :)

In first class you get different seats color and more privacy. The idea of traveling first class in Romania means paying extra so you won't sit in a crowded area because few people pay the difference. Sorry to see you guys go what's your next destination? I feel like it's Ukraine because you're next to the border.

@@waysoftheworld_ Also, I'd like to say something about the second train. The train was stopping in every station, and the general quality was worse, because it is a Regio (short for Regional) (R) train. In Romania, Regio trains are generally the least taken care of, and they do stop in every village, that's their purpose. When possible, choose an R-E (Regio-Express) train, an IR(InterRegio) train or an IC(InterCity) train, or any convenient combination of them. They are slightly more expensive than Regio trains, but the number of stops decreases, respectively, as well as the travel duration, and in 90% of the cases, the quality is better. Also, always bring food, and if travelling during summer, cold water and something to ventilate yourself with, as all Romanian trains (especially the first one in this video), are prone to have broken AC due to the low maintenance.

Hi guys, just randomly discovered this video, and you were in my city! (Targu Mures) Kind of surprising, since not many tourists come here, as it's not a touristic city... 😂 I think I have to explain something about the trains. We have 4 train types: IC, IR, R-E, R, with IC (stands for InterCity) having the highest rank and R (standing for Regio) is the lowest. This ranking is based on the quality of the train and where it stops. Prices are also quite different. You travelled from Targu Mures to Cluj Napoca with an IR train (InterRegio), that means it stops at basically every place that is a town or a major connection point. The difference between first and second class usually is quite small in Romania (buying 1st class tickets is definitely not worth it), especially in the Siemens Desiro train you took on that route (which is famous for it's "fake" 1st class). From Cluj to Sighetu Marmatiei you travelled with a R (Regio) train that indeed stops in every single village. :) Your carriage on that route was a "classic" Romanian one. You should come back to the country once in the future to discover more of it. ;) Feel free to hit me up if you will ever need Romanian train advice.

You got the right attitude for traveling 😊 , just find the best part of the experience instead of focus on any bad side . This looks like a Regio train . They serve smaller places so they stop in every little village on the way , this is why is mostly used by local people. One needs patience. For traveling faster better use IR ( inter regio ) trains . They stop in bigger towns only . There isnt usualy much difference between 1 and 2 class just more room , bigger seat . There are a great variation in type of trains . The first one you took is called a Blue Arrow . The one to the airport in Bucharest is like that. The second has compartments . There are some that have 2 levels . The newer ones have one big room and seats more like a bus or around a table . These usualy have been build in the age of laptops 😅 so you get wifi , plugs and AC . On trade off is that they were not build for people to lie down . The older seats you could just use as a bed if it was empty but these new seats were designed for people who think one should stay in a up right position 10 h . One piece of advice for anyone taking the train în Romania. They are usualy late so if you have another train , bus , plane to catch leave around 1h of time between connections .

Tourists do go to Maramures, just not using a regional train for such a long ride, they usually take a sleeper car, i live in Bucharest and went there last summer with the intention of getting a seat in a sleeper, they were all booked and i had to ride in 2nd class, chairs were like in a bus just with plenty of space, but no table. But on a bright side you get to seat wherever you want, they usually don't assign a seat on regionals, and since the carriage is old, the windows open wide and you can film outside without having a the blur from dirt on the window.

Woof! That’s a lot of time spent traveling by train. I have to ask, if you had a choice, would you choose train/bus travel over renting a car? A LOT! Thanks so much for supporting our channel and for sharing our happiness right now :) That's a tough question because we've changed so much. Before being full time travelers, we always did car rentals even if we had the option to do the bus or train. But when we started traveling full time, our budget forced us to rely more on trains and buses, and we discovered that we actually LOVE it. We always meet interesting people, fun stuff happens, we have a chance to sit and relax, talk, catch up with work, etc. In the end, it depends on the country. In Albania FOR SURE we prefer car rentals, but when the trains or buses work, we prefer to use those, even if it takes longer. We're lucky we have the time for it, and maybe it would be different if we had time restrictions... does this even answer your question? 😂 PS: car rentals are also great, we try to do both. But we have had this conversation before that one day when we can afford to have all the options, we will still travel by train and buses sometimes :) next time, I'll let G answer the questions. He's more direct hahaha take care ❤ thanks again for being here!

When traveling between towns in România train is a good option . A car is needed if you go explore more like mountains, villages , monasteries , scenic roads, caves . Towns like Brașov are places where most lines meet so is a great base to do day trips by public transport . Things to keep in mind is trains will probably have delays . The is no anouncement of next stops on train . R - regio trains are for villages and IR - Inter Regio is for towns so same distance can have 12 stops or 5 stops depending on train type .

I have to say that I’ve almost always enjoyed train trips inside and outside of Romania. Trains there have come a long way since my first train overnight trip into Romania from the Hungarian border to Brasov. There’s an overnight train from Bucharest to Bacău that seems to be made up of leftover cars from the Orient Express as it was full of old, antique, polished wood, furniture, decorative fixtures and plush red carpeting. Very comfortable, private sleeper cabins I would highly recommend. One of my other favorite train trips took me across the north of Romania, through Cluj and onward to Suceava. The landscape was incredibly beautiful. Can’t wait to do it all again but like you, I want to see more of southern Romania, particularly the Danube region near Timisoara.

Just recently found your videos when I was doing some Romania trip research. When this video didn't have exactly what I was looking for (specific train info for Bucharest to Brasov), I did another KZread search. In the video I ended up watching, I spotted you both at the train station! How bizarre! (This is the video in case you're curious: kzread.info/dash/bejne/i2Su0tNraMyuaJc.html) In any case, your videos have been super helpful. Thanks a bunch!

Taking the train in Romania is fine if you have plenty time on your hands. The fact that it's so cheap doesn't hurt either.

6:13 Is your GF / wife also doing what Victoria Beckham does / did ?.. When David Beckham also trolled her (instagram post) by filming her doing that.. while he was drinking his (guess morning) coffee ? 😅 The scene would have been almost the same if you stayed on your seat and filmed her trough the window 🤣 He said she often (like almost daily) does that (while he does something else.. like for example drinking a coffee in the morning) 😄

During communist days, maybe you don't know, but life for kids very really gray, and tourists which were travel by train. Use to throw candies to kids which salute them, and it's a storry from my father. They were so happy to receive in this communist prison sweets from tourists, as the communists shops were shitty and not even close of how filled and full of diversity shops would be in Western countries of Europe/America. This as a fun fact of past history moments, where we learn about what means kindness, ahead of politics and high differences were between East communist states and western occident.

Less than 40 years ago Romania was under one of the worst regime since World War 2 and now it looks like such a modern country, fully integrated in EU, it’s really surprising Wishing a bright future to this country and its people that had suffered so much
