Should You Polish Your Ceramic Coating? | Polishing and Adding to Your Ceramic Coating

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Ceramic coatings, including Adam's Graphene Ceramic Coating™ and coatings from other manufacturers, make your car care easier. A coated vehicle is easier to clean, resists scratches, and locks in your shine. However, ceramic coatings are not bulletproof. Your coating will last years, but that doesn't mean it will look perfect that whole time. You will accumulate water spots and fine scratches in your ceramic coating over time.
Ceramic coatings also make polishing easier, which means a simple one-step polishing process can remove any water spots and fine scratches on your surface easily. A lighter one-step polish won't completely remove your coating, but it's still a good idea to add another layer of ceramic protection after restoring your perfect finish.

    I think you all over over thinking this. What this video shows is that just because you car is coated, its not protected from bad washing habits. If can still get swirl marks and scratches. If that happens, this is what you need to do to reapply. Obviously if you follow a safe wash regiment, you will be fine and wont need to reapply. Only thing you need is perhaps boost the hydrophobic properties with a proper wash shampoo or booster, like the Graphene DS or CS3

    I am with most of the other people commenting, Why would you claim this is a 7 year coating, if you need to polish your car every two or three years? My guess is they found out that there is no way this coating is going to last 7 years and thus had to create this scenario to "Maintain" your coating.

    A Ceramic coating can last as advertised but not always . Reapplying or renewing the coat only adds to the life and clarity. Like a grand piano or well oiled machine. When you keep something maintained and fine tuned it will outlast, out perform all others which have been neglected.

    Its the problem with any super long-term coating. It will still get marred and scratched, like clear coat. Just because a coating can last many years, its doubtful you will want it to. After a few years, or maybe once a year, you will probably want to polish the paint/coating and reapply.

    I used your Advanced Graphine Ceramic 60 ml bottle on my daughters boat. Boat only a few years old and taken care of to perfection. My son in law keeps his vehicles and boat and other toys perfect. Why have you not done any sort of marine videos? I am gonna try to post pictures. Not sure if I can in this. Amazing results. They get compliments about there boat all the time. They also tow it with a Cadillac Escalade that had been given the full paint correction and same coating. Both boat and truck are so easy to maintain. We live in Lake Havasu City AZ and on the lake all summer. The water here has so much calcium. It wipes down so easy with coatings the coatings on.

    Hi Gary, if the coating appears slightly uneven on the PPF, try using a very small amount of Brilliant Glaze into a Red Hex Grip Applicator. Lightly work the glaze into the area, then wipe it off immediately with a plush towel, making sure to be careful around the edge of the film. Brilliant Glaze is excellent at removing some high spots and streaks without having to use a machine polisher.

    I use Carpro Essence Plus which jewels the surface of the Adams Graphene ceramic coating without removing it. It removes scratches as well as any high spots I may have missed. I then put on a spray on topper to further enhance gloss and slickness. If Adams had a similar product with ceramic/graphene similar to Carpro Essence Plus that would be awesome!

I have the original 9H, non graphine coating on my Camaro and it still has a lot of hydrophobic properties and the only place where I can see marring is the front bumper. I applied it about 3 or 4 year ago. Why would I need to reapply yearly? Are we washing with sandpaper or steel wool?

  • @AdamsPolishes

    @AdamsPolishes

    It's not necessary to reapply every year, but if you do have imperfections in the coating, polishing and reapplying is one way to keep your vehicle looking and performing to the best potential. With proper wash processes, you're correct that you should not need to polish as often, but not everyone is as careful with washing as others :)

    Wouldn't a blue foam pad and a one step almost entirely remove the coating?

  • @AdamsPolishes

    @AdamsPolishes

    Жыл бұрын

    Hi Shawn, not necessarily. With our blue Compound and a Microfiber Cutting Pad, yes that will cut through some or most of the coating depending on how many passes you make over the area. Our One Step Polish isn't super aggressive. It will not remove heavy defects very easily, so it works well as a fine finishing polish to remove faint swirl marks and other imperfections. Start with the least aggressive approach in a test area first - our white foam pad with white Polish - and then move up from there if necessary. Our Blue Foam Pad and One Step Polish will remove some of the coating layer, but if you want to fix scratches and swirl marks in the coating after a few years, it is an effective way to polish the coating, and then re-up it with Graphene Ceramic Spray Coating Advanced for example.

    Can this same process be done on glass that has been ceramic coated?

  • @AdamsPolishes

    @AdamsPolishes

    Жыл бұрын

    Hi Nevan, yes but keep in mind that ceramic coatings don't last as long on glass due to things like abrasion from the windshield wipers and so on, so if you polish glass with our white foam pad and white Polish, it may weaken the coating layer more than it would on paint. We would recommend reapplying a layer of Graphene Ceramic Spray Coating afterward if you polish glass. Glass is also a much harder material than vehicle clear coat, so it is much more difficult to remove scratches from glass.

    Can you put PPF over a ceramic coating? Or should you Polish, PPF, and then Ceramic coat?

  • @AdamsPolishes

    @AdamsPolishes

    Жыл бұрын

    Hi David, paint protection film (PPF) should be applied to the bare polished clear coat of the vehicle, then you could apply a ceramic coating or graphene ceramic coating on top of the PPF for even more protection and improved hydrophobics. If you would polish, prep, and apply the ceramic coating, and then apply PPF afterward, the PPF will have difficulty adhering to the ceramic coating and could have issues with peeling and lifting, especially at edges. Also, make sure to talk with the PPF installer to see how long it needs to cure before applying a coating on top of it. So the process we would suggest would be: Wash > Clay > Compound > Polish > Surface Prep > PPF > Surface Prep > Graphene Ceramic Coating.

    Our current One Step Polish in the 12oz bottle does not contain any filler or wax. It is strictly a polish. We updated the formula about 2 years ago. The older version in the smaller 8oz bottle that states "Contains Sio2" at the bottom front of the label had a very slight amount of silica to aid in prepping for a coating, but we found that the Sio2 addition did not always finish down as nicely on some soft clear coats, so we removed it in the current 12oz bottles.

    You guys really do have conflicting advertising. The Graphene Ceramic Advanced is advertised as 9 years. I never beleived at was a 9 year coating, but did not expect you guys to recommend reapplication to "maintain" the coating. By polishing you are REMOVING the coating, then REAPPLYING as if it was the first time you were applying. Add to that the fact that once opened, the glass bottle variants have a shelf life of about 6 months. So.... "Maintaining" after a year will cost $100 because the original bottle is toast by then. The most reputable coatings are rated to 2 or 3 years, 4 years max when layered. Is your product just twice as durable as EVERYONE else? No, no way. Please get real with your marketing. Stop saying it's a 7/9 year coating, have realistic marketing. You guys will be better off, and have a better reputation. Folks will stay loyal and you'll give more new first time customers more confidence that they're not being fooled. LISTEN to everyone in the comments. The marketing problem is real when in another comment, by your own admission, your presonal vehicle needed a re-coat in areas after just one year.

    Definitely the first coating that has recommended reapplication during its advertised tenure on your vehicle. Additionally, why apply this coating when they recommend you do the same thing with a coated car that you would do to a car without one. I’ve coated 4 cars with Adam’s and just received their Advanced Graphene for a customer next week, but it looks like it’s time to move to Gtechniq, or CARPRO CQUARTZ. Adam’s may have just initiated the demise of what has been thought to be a great product. I’m wondering if they’ve realized that they’ve overrated the product. Why else would they promote this unless it’s a ploy to sell more of their other products. Granted, I applied Adam’s Ceramic and Graphene to one of my personal vehicles a little over a year ago to see how they both would hold up. I just used CARPRO Reset on it and topped it with the Adam’s Ceramic Boost and the coating seems to be holding up fine. Beading is the same as it was the first time I washed it. Adam’s, tell us why you’re promoting this type of maintenance on your coatings.

    Hi Courtney, we made this video to show that ceramic coatings are not bullet-proof, and they do develop scratches, swirl marks, and other imperfections over time. They are certainly more resistant to scratches and swirl marks, but even on my car that has been coated for 3 years now with our Graphene Ceramic Coating, there are areas that need to be re-touched, even with my meticulous wash routine, such as the B and C-pillars, trunk, front fenders, and front bumper. At Adam's, we're shine freaks and we want our vehicles to look their best all the time, so decontaminating and polishing a coating is one way to fix swirl marks that develop into the coating over time. We are not trying to sell more product - we're just showing a process that some may want or need to use on an improperly cared for coated vehicle.

    @@AdamsPolishes I think you’re missing what he is saying. You are telling us a 7 year coating needs to be clayed, polished, and reapplied every year. If that is true it is certainly not a 7 year product, it is a 1 year coating if you need to put in that much work and then reapply. Claying and polishing is very time consuming and horrible. And then you have to fork out 100 dollars for another bottle of ceramic coating to reapply what was suppose to last 7 years.
