In my opinion (as an Estonian) one should also consider the overall political situation in today's Europe and be aware about our geopolitical position and complicated history. I don't want to sound too pessimistic but our region may not be the most stabile one when the existing political tensions in Europe (and in the world) will escalate, which I hope won't happen of course. I really wish that we can live in peace now and in the future but we still remember through our family stories about those times that were really dark and horrendous for our little country and nation. It all happened not too long ago.

@@martinkoitmae6655 right you are. they (mostly western analytics) say: no sane head of state would attack NATO; or: no normal country would even dream of attacking or confronting NATO countries. but, if you imagine pictures 'Russia and Putin' on one hand and 'sane and normal' on other hand, those pictures are so different that they don't even touch each other. and when Trump wins and withdraws USA military support from here, or is stupid enough to do smth stupid, what happens to displease Russia... boom! maybe Pakistan is safer? but i don't like hot climate.

@@martinkoitmae6655 I sincerely hope it will never happen but in current circumstances and developments nothing can be ruled out. Nobody really believed they'll invade Ukraine either. It was a bit different case in general of course but we can't be too naive about russia's intentions.

Love is age related. Young people are going to have a more international mindset. Older people are far less likely to speak English or to have a Western mentality. Some may want to marry because they want to get out, but EU citizenship has removed a lot of that pressure. So, to a greater extent, you can trust a Balt to be in love with you and not just want something from you. My wife is native Lithuanian and I am US-born. We live in Vilnius. It is easy to get casual friends who want the stimulation and prestige of a foreign contact, but it is a lot harder to find someone who will help when the chips are down. So, your partner will hopefully help, but you are likely to be expected by everyone else to stand on your own two feet. If you are not reasonably fluent in the local language, you will be even further isolated. What do I mean by a different mindset? The sense of humour is likely to be different. You are not likely to have a burping contest in the Baltics, esp. with a woman. Robin Williams impressions will probably mean nothing to a Balt. The approach to medicine and law is liable to differ. Unconscious, I got myself up and walked home instead of going to hospital. All I know is that I left the flat alone to visit a shop and woke up a couple hours later in bed with a bump on my head. This makes no sense to a local. It is illegal to strike your own child in the Baltics (unlike in the US where it is often considered very good and necessary parenting: spare the rod and spoil the child). And while there is a certain level of psychological manipulation here, it is not usually terrorism. And that means you might need to let your partner do a lot of the childrearing. If you are a woman, many people are not going to really appreciate your childhood dishes. A Balt's very idea of an ideal marriage is likely to be closer to what your grandparents imagined it to be than how social media defines it today. These are all things that stress a relationship. I have been married for 25 years; so, it can be done. But I have seen few international relationships and few have succeeded. I would say ours succeeded because we gave each other enough space to be ourselves and we both see marriage as more a joint venture than an adventure. We solve our problems together. Thus, my wife is the person I can trust the most in the world. She still has close family, so I will presume the same for her.
