If you're planning to leave the pavement with your Subaru, a good set of all terrain tires can make a huge difference.

Great content ! Thanks for also returning my inquiry about my Crosstrek ! I put on stock size AT Wildpeak (I have them on others) and am getting the 1.5" lift kit (1" rear) . I love running AT tires

I spoke with you via email, correct? Thank you for reaching out! Really happy to hear that you went ahead and installed them. I think running a stock size is a fantastic way to increase longevity and still get a lot of traction once you hit the gravel. I'd love to see photos! Feel free to email them to me 🤙💪

I have the Forester Wilderness model and it came with a mild Geolander all-terrain on it. After deciding that the Interco Super Swamper TSL SX bias ply tire might not be the right tire for this application, I chose the BFG Trail Terrain when I went to a slightly larger tire. This is my daily driver that sees "mild" trails 1-2 times a month. While my definition of mild is different than most (I do still have a lift and rear locker on the Subi for the trails I hit), I feel these tires are just fine on the trail and quite excellent on the road. I have not felt a loss of power or acceleration going to these light weight "all-terrains". MPG was not a thought when making my choices.

The trail terrain is a great tire for preserving power and mpg. It's designed specifically for cuv's and small SUV's. You made a great choice💪

What about Trail Terrain tires? Are they a good middle ground - better off-road performance compared to all seasons and better than all-terrain tires on-road?

Thanks for the question! Tires like the wild peak AT Trail and the BFG Trail Terrain and even the new Cooper version are all still technically an all terrain tire. But they are certainly lighter and more mild options. Great for those daily driving their cars who really care about on-road manners and see very little trail time. The off-road performance is great if you just need a little extra grip and there are minimal hazards. I've seen a handful of them blow apart on trails. A person just has to weigh their needs to decide if it's the right option and then drive cautiously on the trails once you get into areas with sharp rocks etc. What tires are you running right now?

@@LiftedImports7 I have the BFG Trail Terrains. I had the BFG KO2s on there prior - and I *loved* the off-road performance. But they were incredibly heavy. I didn't mind the MPG hit, but I could definitely feel it in the acceleration. I go trail riding pretty much every weekend (US Forest Service roads in the southern Appalachians), but the weight of the tires irritated me more than the off-road performance impressed me.

@@CurtGodwin I love that! Glad to hear that you've been enjoying them. I haven't met a lot of people running that tire specifically yet. Usually the AT Trail that people use. So it's good to hear your feedback. The ko2's are one of the best all terrains in terms of durability and capability. But they were definitely designed for trucks 😅 the loss of torque is also what keeps me from running heavy tires. Without 4lo it's just too much for these cars. The trail terrains are probably perfect for most forest road trails. I think you made a good choice! What kind of Subaru do you drive?

@@LiftedImports7 I have a '22 Outback Wilderness (my 7th Subaru). I love everything about the Wilderness EXCEPT for that darned CVT. An 8- or 10-speed automatic transmission would be much preferred.

@@CurtGodwin I couldn't agree more! The OBW is super close to being dialed in. But the CVT really holds it back from its full potential in my opinion💔

Yep! I think that acquisition happened awhile ago. Discount tire direct is now or will be shortly redirecting to tire rack.
