Should You Buy the Sony Xperia 1 VI? Maybe, Maybe Not...

Ғылым және технология

Should you buy the new Sony Xperia 1 VI? The Sony Xperia 1 VI is the latest phone from Sony and is one of the most upgraded phones I've seen in years but it's not available in the United States, which means you'll have to import it or wait for online retailers, and it's expensive. Should you buy the new Sony Xperia 1 VI?

I have the Xperia 5 V which is an amazing phone but I can't film 4k 120fps on the 48mm lens (it's basically the 24mm cropped) and 8gb ram sometimes struggles a bit when editing in Adobe Rush. And I really want a longer zoom (and the headphones 😅). Hope they ship before June 06th. 🤞💪

Looks like Sony did NOT disappoint with the Xperia 1 VI's display: although they clearly stated in their ads and launch video that it has "FHD+", upon research it turns out 2048x1080 is NOT "1080p", but rather "native" DCI 2K. It is "official cinema resolution" and like the Xperia 1's of the past still true to its cinema roots. Sony should've called it that instead of the smartphone and TV term of FHD+. Farewell 4K, but this should make it more mass-appealing. Well done Sony. 👏

The only thing the Xperia is missing is some connection to PlayStation. They didn't even showed some Remote Play functionality. I thought that they changed the aspect ratio of the screen for PlayStation remote play. If they want to grab the attention of the casual consumers they should offer some exclusive playstation features and market that. Why no exclusive legal Psone/ ps2/psp/vita emulator for Xperia with a Psstore to buy the classic games from for the phone.. Hook up a ps5 controller and start playing...

Why I believe Sony left USA. We are so critical - comment section reads like a bunch of critical trolls. Like: "I was going to get it but ..." and "I hate the new ... " and "Sony CEO is ..." Many comments are so rude and very rude to Japanese culture. I think maybe you drove Sony out - and they left your rude comments behind. So sad, as I was so looking forward to this new model, but will choose Xperia 1 V (Expandable SD, Headphone jack) as the replacement as Samsung who has turned from me/us.

Sony phones are garbage and nobody is interested in them in the US they keep making extremely narrow screens shitty front facing cameras the rear cameras are over hyped and are always trash in actuality. Bro just stop it’s trendy to hate on Sony but that’s THEIR fault I personally believe Samsung and Apple have monopolized the phone industry and control who can drop a serious competitor to their devices and I’m sure it will be exposed later this year. But in conclusion Sony doesn’t try they are focused on being weird and not innovative and useful

I remember how hard I worked to buy my 1 III and I even ordered it with 1 day shipping to get it at my doorstep before my trip to South Dakota to take great shots in the badlands. It's actually sad how they don't do as well in the US market because people with iPhones genuinely bully other users for their phones. It sounds pretty cringey but it's true, I'm a pretty mainstream person and every single person around me has an iPhone and he's they've accepted me for having an Xperia but at the same time it sucks how their ecosystem welcomes me out entirely, I personally don't care but at the same time it sucks for Sony. I don't care about the 4k display I will rock 1080p just fine, but Sony is genuinely the only non cringey android company since it doesn't have a goofy notch or an ugly camera set on the rear. I‘ve just checked the screen of the 1VI out irl and honestly the 4k vs FHD+ issue is very much overblown. Its slightly less sharp if you concentrate on the pixels and try to make them out close up. Considering all of the pros the screen brings im totally fine with this decision. Now what i really dont like, is that none of the sensors of any of the 3 cameras was upgraded. Especially the Telephoto lens should have gotten a better sensor, like the Exmor T from the main camera. The Telephoto already desperately needed a higher MP sensor and more light sensitive one in the last years 1V, and its disappointing Sony didnt change anything about it for the 1VI. I still pre-ordered it but i hope they are going to seriously upgrade the cameras next year.

30W charging, 1080p resolution, average software experience. Really the entire "hype" is around the cameras which in auto mode are regular. If you gotta shoot in pro mode, you will more or less get the same results with S24U and Xiaomi 14U, along with way better experiences in other departments. The only edge this phone has would be its usability with alpha DSLRs as secondary monitor and video performance (which isnt out yet, got no clue what to expect and wait till August). Yes the headphone jack is good to have but you can do that on any phone with converters without affecting the quality. This phone is not for regular consumers. It makes sense for those who own a DSLR and want an extended arm for it. And pretty much only for that.

Ive always had an Xperia. Ive had the xperia s, Acro-s, Play, Z1, Z2, C5 Ultra, XZ1, XZ Premium, 1, 1III and currently i am using the Xperia 1V. Even if the Xperia 1VI had the best battery life of all time that trade off from a 4k display to a 1080p one is too harsh lol i wont be upgrading to a worse display if it where above 1080p i would be able to live with it. Too bad this will be the first time in years that i will buy something other than a Xperia if they continue this 1080p display trend in 2025. Who knows maybe the new pro-i wil come with a 4k display if they ever make one..... If not so long Sony! Hello Apple, Samung and other gaming phones!

I also think that the changes are very good and really a lot. Really weird that it's not coming to the US. Maybe Sony really wants to deliver the device earlier this time than usual And they simply can't produce it in large quantities.Or the American reporting was too negative for them..For example dxomark Or the blind test of a well-known KZreadr.... He knows.I live in Germany and mine will be delivered from June 3rd for €1239 including WH100 XM 5. In Germany the prices always include VAT. It's asinine. It's 2024, this is an excusable and technologically not even that difficult to make it work. Why do I have to be limited to Samsung or Apple for the top tier phone? Sony should've dropped down to QHD on the screen but the fact that the VI blows away the competition in terms of battery life makes this a forgiveable offense in my opinion. To be able to shoot for extended periods of time and still not have to rush to a charger will be a much welcomed change. The telemacro lens is also unique among the flagship phones as well especially being able to shoot and use it in video at 4k120 is insane. The improved bokeh mode shooting at even 85mm is going to be so freaking good. So yeah this is my next phone but you're right about not paying full price because what the heck was Sony thinking. Should've started at $999 to be super competitive and drive sales up a bit. Other the price and screen, Sony did everything right.

Honestly, Sony Xperia disappoints me every year (maybe not Xperia 1 V) but this year is the worst. I happen to like the old aspect ratio and 4K screen. Without its unique display it really DOES NOT stand out. Additionally, I never understood why Sony not equip Xperia with its best senors yet sell its best sensors to the competitors. I also read somewhere Sony is not selling in China this year so not sure if that is the same as the international version. I had international version of Xperia I V with Tmobile in New York, it works but you wouldn't get 5G and 4G would not support some bands but not a serious issue. I also read somewhere Sony had supplier issue with its display so maybe loss of 4K display is just this year. It happened before with Xperia XZ3 Premium if I remember correctly.
