I’m in a very unique situation I have Parkinson’s disease and it’s affecting dexterity in my arm which makes straps difficult but I’m not going to stop riding until I can’t. Step on bindings have made it so much easier to get in and out of the bindings. Definitely added years of future riding.

i'm an intermediate rider but was a beginner not long ago, i can do blues with ease and have started hitting blacks and do fine depending on the conditions. I have only ever used rental gear but am buying my own for next season. Are the step on bindings too stiff and will they work ok with a medium or soft-medium flex board? Thanks.

@@jasonwarren270 the bindings themselves are like a medium stiffness. They work everywhere with ease. As Johnathan said, they are crazy responsive so it takes some getting used to with how snappy they are. The boots with them is the most important thing. The Photon is an amazing boot, and what I rock. Imo the board doesn't matter with it. I rock em with my all mountain Proto, and my name dropper park board.

Literally, I demoed some in telluride and and I was actually able to keep up with the skiers right off the chair lift instead of them watching you sit down and strap in for 45 seconds, then fall when you rush trying to get up😂

The Belly Issue is easy to deal with. Just stop eating Starch & Sugar in your meals & snacks. I lost 50 lbs, that was 25% of my weight by eating right and buying a Bike to ride in the Summer. I’m going to be 66 this Winter so knocking off weight is easy if you really want to do it,

another reason I love the step ons - not just the time to strap in but the effort from standing up or leaning forward, gloves off and on, etc. saves energy (for us older riders) that we can put towards going down the hill.

@@pauljames1258 I have been boarding for 30 years, I'm 47 now, and as fit as I've ever been. Still weigh the same as when I was 20. I've run for 30 years but have taken care of myself in order that I can do stuff like snowboarding, running, cycling etc without worrying about aches and pains. It's my personal responsibility to take care of myself, as no one else will. Besides strapping in and getting up is good for the core muscles

You do a great job of blending personal appeal, friendships, learning, product review vs. just sticking to a particular thing. Keep up the great blend of programming. Bringing your family, friends, and employees into it makes it very interesting, entertaining and relatable. Thanks for all the great work!

I gotta say, I love the step ons. I was a total beginner this season (yes I got obsessed with snowboarding and bought all of my equipment + step ons and a board in 1 go ha) and was hittin jumps and grinds by the end of season simply because I was getting more runs in than any of my friends ha.

Lol didn't realize my experiences were really were up for debate ... But sure lmao 😂 I was just sharing what I went through no need for the negativity my guys. Lol my friends and I are avid down hill longboarders and we skateboard too. So my progression was quick but I just had the means to get the step ons and while my buddies were fumbling around with bindings I was getting a feel for my board faster.

This year I upgraded my whole set up from a 20 year old 164cm RIDE timeless (great board) with 20 year old boots that were beat up and slightly too big to a 162w Burton Custom, Swath boots and the Step-On bindings. It feels like a whole new experience riding with such responsive turning, and connectivity to the board. A nice aspect to these is when getting off the lift, you don't have to stop to step-in. It's a big expense, but is so worth it and I can't praise these enough!

Yo, great video man, I'm mostly with skiers here so that's why I bought the step-ons and they are awesome. To get out easier, twist your heel inwards towards the centre of the board, this will also stop the wear on the toe hooks, and rub a little board wax on the cleats and hooks to stop the clicking, it drove me mad for the longest time.

It’s crazy these are now becoming big, when I was snowboarding in 2002 or so, the rental boards were all step ons and they were considered inferior but we were killing it down the mountains

I have had the step ons for three seasons now, and I wouldn’t go back to straps. Once you get used to them, you can even get off the chairlift and step on without stopping. Btw, if you twist your heal to the inside you get out of them with no problem.

I lift heel first, the rotate my foot from the inside outward. That has been the best way I have found.

Finishing my 3rd season with the step ons and I have no complaints at all. Super responsive and easy to get in and out of once you understand the motion required. I usually hit the release lever, lean my ankle forward to lift the heel, then lift my foot with an outward twist motion to release the toes easily. This works the same on both sides. Also, I release one foot and then step on the board and release the leash and other foot with the same technique of foot exit.

as an almost 60 yr old boarder with serious knee injury issues i retired 4 years ago as 2 days in i couldnt get my bindings fastened (youll understand 1 day guys) then i discovered step ons ,needless to say im back with a vengeance ive even adapted the release catch with tie wraps so i dont need to bend down to get out of them 🤗🤗 theyre absolutely brilliant

I snagged them this past December. As you said the only con I had was getting out. After riding this whole season on them I figured out that a twist motion was the easiest way to get out. Now its not problem at all! Getting better at stepping in while moving, and it is very satisfying!

Ill tell you what I thought about my stepon experience. Paid full price for the bindings on the Burton website. Never got them. Took me literally weeks to get contact of any kind from customer support until I sat in a queue for 30 minutes all so they could tell me "oh so when you placed your order, the website wasn't up to date and they weren't actually in stock.. but they will be instock in afew weeks." So i kept my order active. Fast forward a week and I get an email saying that Burton canceled my order without my permission and still to this day haven't been refunded. They did ya boy real dirty and I was so excited to use these this season. Rip Rip Rip

OK - couple of corrections. Burton are not the only company that make boots for the Burton Step On bindings.DC also make boots that fit. You can take the rear cleat off your boots and use them in regular strap bindings (if you still have a set of strap bindings). Glad you like the responsiveness. Make sure your foot bed is extended to the correct boot size and adjust your forward lean. That might stop any clicking. Note also that system auto tightens - the rear cleat has two positions - you are locked in on position #1, then on your 1st heel turn or an ollie it will click into position #2. To get out, lift your heel and twist the front of the foot outward. As for cost, a set of union or malavita bindings and photon regular boots cost the same of the step Ons with Photons.

nearlly 100% correct. but the part with the rear cleat is not totally right. if you have an ion or photon it isnt possible because of your boa strap on the boot ;)

Yes I have them. I never hesitate about taking them off when I get stuck on a flat or want to climb up. Got the 2021 Versions. Totally worth.

Thanks for the video. I had Burton SI bindings back in 2001, thought they kinda sucked, put them on eBay. I had straps all the way until I stopped snowboarding in 2008 because I went to Taiwan to work and they don't snow there. Last month I decided to take my family to a ski trip in Japan and brought my old '07 gear up the hills and realized the 35lbs of weight gained ever since is getting a bit much for me to be bending down and do the straps. So yeah, after 22 years, I'm going back to a Burton step-in setup, time sure flies!

I’ve just started snowboarding and have went four times. The first time I went I hit the biggest jump in the park (not knowing that it was the biggest jump) and I fell flat, hit my head, and had a headache for the rest of the day. Yet I still want to do it for a living :)

Look before you leap.

ill never go back to straps after using step-ons, they out preform regular strap bindings. Nothing is as responsive as them. put a little wax on the toe connections to get rid of the clicking noise and twist your foot inward more to get out faster.

I’ve had them for 3 season they work awesome save a lot of time and overall feel better for me!

After having Step On, never go back. I have snowboarded with Step On for 3 season since they came out. LUVIN' THEM. I even got the mine77 EST Step On for extra binding.

I got the step-ons this year and am really enjoying them but was curious to hear somebody else’s impression of them. I just wanted to comment that locking in your foot while sitting down is so damn easy. I spent a stupid amount of time trying to step into the back foot while standing in heavy wind and was getting nowhere. When I finally tried it sitting down it was incredibly simple. Thanks for the second opinion / review!

@Clay Shaw $200+ for what should be $40 is absolutely absurd though.

I swapped the release levers over so they are both on the inside and its much better also turning your heel toward the inside helps release the toe hooks more efficiently

I had my set for two years now, love them. I have the stiff style boots with the over the top strap, will bever go back to regular boots, but the clicking your boots do while attached and your moving around does annoy some times

Great video dude, I hv the original 2018 step on with my all mountain board and the 2020 step on x’s on my park board and the difference is crazy, would love to see u try the x’s with the dc step on boot

Weighing whether to go this route or not so I appreciate the video man, keep up the good work God bless!

Been getting into snowboarding over the past couple years bout to buy my first setup and definitely gonna get some stickers

Looks like we still need to do that collab after all. Lol 1. They are super easy and fast to get out of. ( I'll show you how) 2. There are adjustments that lessen and can even stop the click sound. 3. They are super easy to put on sitting down. (I'll show ya that too.) 4. Amazing on deep powder days. Ride right off the lift and step in and leave everyone behind. 5. I would NOT suggest them for beginners. They are a bit awkward at 1st to get in and out of. 6. They are super responsive. Let me know when you wanna do a follow up video and we will take 2 pair out and u will see how awesome it is riding with someone else who actually has them too. ;)

100% agree with everything Sean says. 2nd season on them. Only one disagreement, beginners don't know how to get into regular bindings won't realize these are awkward and they'll learn these first (and regular bindings will feel awkward). Started my 12 yr old on these, he clips in getting off the lift (something I haven't mastered yet) so I'm left playing catch-up with him every run. Older folks who aren't as, lets say flexible, these are a god send and will materially extend your day on the mountain as they lesson fatigue tremendously (I used to start every run nearly out of breathe from bending down to strap in to standard bindings). That's now a thing of the past! Love them, recommend them to everyone that sees my son, girlfriend, and I on them and asks about them.

@@laurarivera6911 I've seen wax, rubber pads, and extending the footbeds but you really can't remove it completly. Imo it isn't nearly as big a deal as some make it out to be, when recording I hear my goggles hitting my helmet more than the clicking. It's definitely weird the first time out tho

I swapped the R and L release latches to be on the inside of the foot instead of the outside. Way more comfortable to reach.

@@momof2dc yes. Search for burton step on modification. You'll find several videos showing how to basically disassemble each side and swap parts over. It was a game changer for me. I started enjoying the bindings much more after doing that. Way easier with my stance to reach the inside of the foot than the outside.

I do all my snowboarding with friends that ski. I'm seriously considering getting these as the strapping in is the most annoying part of getting out there together!

Love the step ons, first season out but it was great, can't wait for next year. Btw when u get out twist your heel inwards towards your body and it makes it super simple to get the toes out.

I prefer to twist outward. Key is the twist either way.

I've had a few pairs the past like 6 years, all of them are still working and in good condition and never had a problem with them, def worth it

I just got step-ons for Christmas and the hardest parts to get used to is the clicking and getting out of it, you have to lean forward while you click the heel out and twist your toe and it will come right out. When you get used to it they are the best things I’ve purchased

@@z2171 I think I could vouch for everybody that went for and bought the Step Ons, that they were probably a little hesitant about going to buy them. But I would say 99% percent of the people who got them were surprised how well they worked. I bet you have probably heard this in all the review videos you have watched about them, but the clicking sound when you are carving is weird to get used to but they are perfectly sturdy. In the park they are also really good, my friend goes all out on rails and doing tame dogs and he gets destroyed but the Steps Ons are just as good than when he got them. Hope this helps, Overall they are good in the park and don’t over think it👍🏻(best snowboard purchase I’ve made)

Hey Johnathan, Big fan of your channel! So for me the clicking sound of the Burton step-ins started ruining the tranquility of my pow days! (Can’t have that!!) So, what I found was, if you put just a little bit of wax on the bottom of the toe hook... *magic* clicking be gone! At first I tried board wax that was just starting to cool and it worked really well for most of (if not all of) the day. Then I saw this post of this guy using finishing wax from Home Depot and tried it out... just a little bit of the finishing wax started to prevent the clicking for serval days of riding! The other important thing, perhaps the most important is to make sure you have the bindings completely clipped in. Sometimes there’s a little bit of play from clipping in at an angle-this too will cause the clicking sound. Anyway, I hope this helps! And as always... keep evolving! 😝

I am fully satisfied with the Step On. Bought them two years ago when my 20 year old button hard boots died and so I was not able to continue on my old button step in bindings.

I have been used it for 5 years. And broke one and get the same one again. The bottom of the boots teared out. But once I got used to, I cannot live without it. I am not a advanced rider, so I don't have any complain about the step in binding. Quick and easy and passing the others on the top start line. ;)

4 seasons with step ons and heck yes they are well worth it. Two pairs and two sets of boots. Next season I'll get the modified new ones and some more boots. Guessing we are no longer making that step on collab. Lol

The new step on bindings have a new toe cleat that are supposed to completely eliminate noise and get out easier. Also they're bringing a new model the genesis step on to go with the standard and x models

Sean, I can vouch for your statement! This was my first season ever and I have a bad back, watched your reviews on them and got really curious. Anyway, I got them and they helped me improve my riding more than 50%. I got the stiffest boots and they absolutely rock. Especially after break in. Getting off the lift and not stopping is a dream. My girlfriend and another friend who both ski really appreciate not waiting anymore.

Been riding Step Ons since they came out. Love them. One thing to watch out for is a hot spot right behind the baby toe if your feet on the wider side. Going up a half boot size from what I would normally wear fixed the problem for me. Burton also makes a Photon Wide Step On boot which may fix that problem.

I've only had them one season but I am 100% convinced. They are great, and once you get used to stepping in after dropping from the lift, you're good to go. I also noticed I get more runs in throughout the day. WAY less time spent sitting down/getting up or messing around trying to get the straps right. Saves energy too for taller rides (I'm 6'7"). Bending down to your straps is a long way down! haha

watching to see how well these take off. I currently am still riding Switch step ins and have a backup binding and boot in case my brerak as they are not longer made. LOVE my switches but would rather get something more up to date with tech.

If you rotate out of the binding instead of stepping up (it takes a bit of practice) we find we don't trip over them anymore. We love them and would never go back 100% recommend! Worth every penny!

Step on were by first setup that i got a month ago. Freaking love them but i did modify the lever to be on the inside instead of outside of boot. So much easier to grab that way.

how did you do that ? ive attached a tie wrap to my left lever as i struggle after a few days to reach it due to a smashed knee and pelvis back in the day

had been on the step on for 50+ days but this season i have gone back to the traditional. I would recommend stepon for the beginners or "weaker" boarders because they do reduce the efforts for the already struggled beginners. The weakness: loose, they are secure but still too much movements and play especially on the lateral directions. boots wear out faster. all the stress are on the boots. the straps on the traditional bindings takes the load but with step on it's the leather of the boots that constantly being stretched. after 50 days the boots are so loose and some stitching have come off What these step on bring you is really just few seconds each ride.

What boots were you using? I recently bought set of step on bindings and Swath boots but I havent had time to teat them.

Bought these for my girl and she’s still not great🤣 but at least she isn’t wasting time/energy on the hill struggling to strap in and she’s already progressing faster. Definitely a win if you have the cash for it as the boots are NOT cheap.

Lift heel, twist foot out, don’t pull straight up.

2:13 It's not about the time savings for me, it's about energy and effort. After getting up early, packing, dressing, driving, parking, waiting in line, and riding a lift, I just want to ***ing ride already. I LOVE the idea of not having to fuddle around with finicky straps all day. Just ordered my full set and I'm beyond stoked to try them out.

Another advantage of these bindings: If there is one thing I hate is to stand in line with one leg on the board and the other one pushing myself forward. So I just walk with my board in my hands all the way to the lift, and 1 or 2 people before my turn to go on the lift I drop the board on the floor and put my leg in. Standing in line is a lot easier now. Been using them for 2 seasons now. I personally have wide feet, and even with the wider boot and 1.5 size up, and taking out the insoles, the Burton boots still squish my feet. I'm going to try wide boots from another company and the Clew binding next season. Hopefully I'll be more comfortable.

You can swap the release lever to the inside. Big improvement.

Funny today is my first day on step on with DC control. Finally kept up with my wife and kid who usually just decided to get rid of me as as we get off the lift when I start strapping. I did not pay attention to the clicking at all. Buy it if your feet fit Burton or DC.

I demoed them from the Boulder Burton store for free. Found them super easy to get into (and I normally ride flows)and they were very responsive. Downside is I hurt my hip falling/getting out of them and so a bit gun shy and went back to my flows.

Getting out is easy but unique. Once you've hit the release tab, pick up your heal while sort of rolling the pressure onto your big toe. That little twist gets your right out easy

2 year, I LOVE these things. 110% worth it.

i love the step ons i get 4 more runs time wise and comfort wise out of them

I'm 50 years old with a dad bod and a bit of a belly, on a recent boarding trip there was a quite a few flat sections which meant a lot of either bending over or sitting down to do up bindings, just doing that really took it's toll, made the decision there and then to get a pair of step on bindings for the next trip

Rub some base wax on the front connection points on the boots and the bindings, and the clicking goes away completely. Works like a charm!

I had a hard time with getting out of them first and then I learned when you clip out you kick forward and it just take you right out with ez

Perfect option for an old beginner like me!

Honestly I started out on step ins when it came to rentals and I always had more fun with it. Nothing wrong with straps but step ons are definitely the ones I’ll purchase.

These look interesting. I have a pair of Flows that I've been using for like 10+ years and have worked great. I'm honestly surprised more people don't have Flows and still do the strap thing.

Bought flows at snigrab like 15 years ago. I sold one with board to castle rock play it again sports for my kids board. I couldn’t believe they took it. I still have one pair left which is my brothers. The biggest problem with flows is no true toe strap, just one big piece of middle part of your foot. We would commonly get about 5 chairs in and then change out to strap in when we were young. Now we are old and just getting in 5 chairs is enough.

i had to get new boots this season, and i just committed to go all-in on step-on. never looking back. the clicking noise is a non issue IMO. put some wax on it and it goes away.

When you unlock the heel, pull your heel out then turn it inward instead of stepping out with your toes. Your foot will be resting on the inner side of the binding, then you just turn the front of your boot straight and it will be resting where your stomp pad would be. I take my heel off the edge to pin the board while i remove my front foot the same way. helps alot

Been running mine for over a year now and IMO the single greatest advancement in snowboarding gear. They are more locked in feeling, lighter, comfortable, and faster than traditional bindings. BTW you need to twist your foot to get out of the toe clips not just pull up.

The only problem I have with the step on is, I’m 61 and I have no patience waiting for my group to strap in to there bindings. I’m going on 3 years with Step on and love them..

When you fell going up to that box you still made it look smooth

Used them when they first came out in the mid /late nineties Found them good for the park and blue runs and stuff. Strap ons are way better for off piste/ back-country riding. IMO.

Bought a new board and bindings a couple of seasons ago, but only used it for one, because og Covid. Currently in need of new boots, and i'm really not sure if i should go with the step ons or just regular straps. I only ride with skiers so i can see a benefit on the steps on after the lift.

So funny

Being able to start moving down the slope and comfortably step your second foot in makes step ons even faster. My friends could still be sitting at the top cranking on their bindings and I could already be cruising.

Do you prefer these or flow style ? I use flows and it’s nice just always scared of breaking a strap
