Hi, I now purchased my second Sonos Move. I can attest to the dramatically increased sound stage and volume in the stereo pair. Quite impressive. I use these outside on my deck. Thank you for your very helpful reviews.

Awesome content, I purchased a pair of Roams to use as makeshift desk speakers (did not want to deal with any wires on my desk) and they sound great for their size for near field listening, volume output is more than enough and clarity and bass output greatly increase over a single speaker.

Peter, so glad you did this test. I have a Roam that I use in my garage workshop and was looking for more fidelity. Using my Oticon More hearing aids in music mode has revitalized my desire for bigger sound. So I bought a Move and it is what you say versus the Roam. So I bought a second one and will put it in Stereo mode today when it comes.

I absolutely love my Moves paired in stereo! Powerful and clear sound with great soundstage. Indeed few people know how beast they are in pair. I just bought a Five and I was disappointed compared to the stereo Move pair. I agree that a "lower model" pair is always better than a "better model" solo.

Currently only have 1 Move, but really love the sound it has, and it's portable enough to to be practical. Also have a Roam, which is great for indoor use (my wife is using it as a speaker for her PC) We've just completed a pool install, so I think I'll buy another Move to add for stereo. Advantage is, if I get too drunk and forget to bring them in, and it rains - it won't matter, the next day they will still be fine.

Peter. First, thanks a bunch for all your content! I watch all your vids! Great stuff! Question. I have 2 roams in stereo, but have also configured them grouped in mono x2. I think the stereo config sounds cleaner and more accurate being true L/R, but would loved to have seen your test showing how the graph would look comparing the roams in stereo vs x2 in mono. I believe your test was just one roam in mono. Is that correct?

With regards to volume level, a 3 dB increase is twice the sound pressure level, but human ears respond to volume logarithmically, so we actually perceive a 10 dB increase as being a doubling of volume.

I bought a Roam to replace a Flip3 for the bathroom for my wife. Nearly every time she went to use it, it was dead. Fast-forward had to pick up a pair of the Moves since they're on such a good sale. I have one in the kitchen and one in tge bathroom and I can "Move" to outside. They sound awesome as a stereo pair, Soundstage is wide, but every time I pair th I have to unpaired the when I put them back. I also tried them as separates and in stereo in my livingroom grouped to my Arc and gen3. They cut out when in stereo, they are better as separates grouped. My other two TVs I have surrounds but my livingroom isn't really configured in a way for rears. I may pick up some wall hangers for inside and out.

Yep unfortunately Sonos doesn’t allow a sub to be paired with the moves. Or roams. If you are thinking of getting another speaker, I’d strongly recommend getting another used play:5g2. The sound from that setup is amazing.

Yes. For the roam and move you can use Bluetooth.

Oh wait! To be clear if you meant to connect in stereo, no. You can’t connect the roams and moves in stereo over Bluetooth. It needs to be in wifi to be in stereo pair.

I recently just bought the move and contemplated getting a second one for stereo pair using Bluetooth. I'm so glad I saw this comment and saved myself some cash. Thanks for the heads up Peter Pee 👍

What if you use the ampme app. Can you then pair in Bluetooth for stereo?

Peter, excellent analysis and commentary. I was wondering if is your intention to demonstrate the different of buying two speakers to go stereo like you did for the Sonos fives? Given the relative price difference between the five and the move, it would be interesting to understand the sound benefits, noting the hard wired vs wireless options. Many thanks

For the fives, I have seldom used the wired input through the 3.5mm switch. It’s just not different enough to justify another cable running from a player.
