I have a 97 7.3 F350 SRW, a 97 Landcruiser, an 06 LBZ, and the wife drives an 01 Excursion 7.3 and she also has a 97 Tahoe 2door Z71 with the 6.5 TD. We had that 6.5 recently replaced with a rebuilt Peninsular Diesel Marine 6.5. I may spend more on fuel and not have all the tech, but what I do have is a garage full of trucks that are reliable, tough, simple to work on, and really don't the deliberate engineered obsolescence these new vehicles have. Plus no stupid emissions shit on my trucks (even my EGR's are blocked off with computer reflashed) and waay more reliable. I made a mistake in 2018 of buying a new DURAMAX LTZ. That truck was nice for about 20k mikes then everything went wrong and it left me on the side of the road or in limp mode at least once every few months. 80k POS I sold that truck to some kid and his dad actually paid 50k for it...but the bill of sale said "gift".....🤫 Probably shared waay too much in this comment section but fuck it.

Thankfully they are built really well with the exception of a few small items. Pretty easy to put them together properly. Especially nowadays where ford re engineered a lot of parts. And of course the aftermarket. I’ve had to do far more 6.7, 6.4 and 7.3 engine swaps due to catastrophic failure than any 6.0. Actually, the only 6.0s I’ve seen actually fail to the point of engine replacement was from two main reasons, one, having the stock length pushrods be used with a larger cam after the heads were machines, which bottomed out the lifters and smashed the cam lobes. And the second one was just pure abuse. Nitrous and a massive amount of fuel.

The 6.0 had an electric fan clutch. When it failed the engine would overheat and the torque-to-yield head bolts would stretch resulting in blown head gaskets. That is when the engine would need to be bulletproofed. This can be avoided by using an adapter from Bulletproof Diesel that allows you to use a fan clutch from a 1997 powerstroke. The only downside is that the truck will get slightly less fuel mileage.

You have no idea what your talking about. Heat problems came from the EGR and oil cooler. The coolant went through both of those before it entered the water jackets. The coolant was already heat soaked before it entered the engine. The water pump impeller was plastic, too. In time it would break and water flow slowed down.

@@leroijr407 its more job dependent, I've had 3 6.0s, 2 were tuned, ones still stock, the one I still own is stock. Quite frankly yes I should have learned the first time and never bought more than the one. So for some context i was using the trucks for hot shot trucking, started with a 32ft gooseneck stock the 6.0 was a absolute dog, even tuned they are pathetically under torqued, after about 3 years needless to say the tuned 6.0s gave the most problems, head gaskets, injectors, electrical problems, ect. The stock had the least problems, but is horribly underpowered. Combined I've probably had most every problem with the 6.0 that there is. So when I went to a 40ft gooseneck, I also went to a 1st gen 6.7 ps and never looked back, the 6.7 still wasn't a overly torquey engine but always worked, now I have 2 3rd gen 6.7s with over 100k pulling a 40ft gooseneck since new, and no issues, definitely have better torque than the 1st gen powerstroke, great engines. But the kicker is my buddy has a 2004 cummins, stock the thing had so much more torque than the 6.0ls, now he's pushing 500hp with a built trans, tows with it every day and no issues at all! If I wasn't such a ford fanatic back then I could have saved myself thousands by just buying a fricken cummins! All in all the 6.0 isn't trash, but its not for anyone who's actually serious about working, towing a 22ft camper once a month and daily driving most of its life it'll be fine, but for serious towing buy a 6.7 ps, or cummins!
