I live in first and second gear in nothing but rocks and roots, I ride between “sections” nice and easy just to take care of my tires. This is the most honest and informative tire video I have seen on KZread

fim approved rear tires have max 13mm knob height, even in gummy compound they dont tear knobs, they are not that good if the soil is loose (sand/mud). nice to see more tire options in gummy componds.

I ride a KTM 530exc with a 140-80-18 size rear and 140s are hard to find. I had been running the Motoz Desert Tractionator but sacrificing performance due to the compound of that tire. I was anxious to try something new and the M5B-evo was well talked about. I bought one last month but unfortunately I roasted it in about 4 rides / 14 hrs. of riding BUT it was no fault of the tire. It performed great but I knew that my last ride was gonna be the death of that tire when I blew a fuse late in the afternoon and my headlight was flickering at less than 50% of normal as the sun was going down. In order to hurry home, I jumped on the pavement and I knew that my speed was going to heat the knobs up and stress them out. But I was racing the sunset. Once I got home, sure enough almost all the center knobs were cracking at the carcass and one of them was halfway detached. I knew this was my own fault and no fault of the tire as the tire is not highway rated. Still despite this I would (and will) buy another M5B as it performs outstanding on the desert & mountain single track I ride. Just keep it on the dirt. I appreciate the price point being a little less than the other manufacturers as it makes the short lifespan worth the cost.

Here in East Tennessee my Shinko 525 has lasted forever because the single track is slow and technical. Which is awesome. Nothing really fast at all. Love the traction of a hybrid gummy especially paired with tubliss. I was really surprised at how long my tire lasted. I tried a pirelli scorpion mx extra x just for shits and giggles and it blew apart faster than the gummy tire!

Ok, I'm a newbie to the dirt, & this is an oldish video. But my first thought is as what I'd do on the street i.e. fit a sticky/gummy tire with a soft compound on the front & a normal tyre on the rear. At present I have a Yamaha DT200R for a "starting in the dirt" bike ( though I have used MTBs in the dirt ) & never hope to progress beyond a tweaked up Yam DT200 WR. - & I've got some Vee Rubber tyres ( German design, made in Thailand ) because I've heard some horror stories of guys on dirt tyres crashing FAR too easily on damp patches on the road ( which I use to get to & from the dirt ). Any & all advice welcome, either from IRC or anybody else? - T.I.A.

My friend runs the irs Ix09 gekkota he has 11 races so about 25/30 hours on it with no hairline fractures on the bottom of the knobs or chunking of the knobs and he does hair scrambles that can by 4 gear on his 300rr and hard enduro races and he swears by the tire it’s all he will run now

How does the M5B Evo compare to the VE33S and ix09w? I currently have the M5B evo and planning my next tire, and want to make sure what I’m riding is the best match to the conditions. The M5B evo has worked well in the Midwest ST conditions that I ride which are usually technical wet, steep, rocky, slick and fairly demanding. Also is there an approximate compound hardness value you could provide for each of the three tires, just to help get a idea of the differences? Thanks!

The M5bevo is the hardest compound compared to the VE33s and IX09W Gekkota. The VE33s is the middle ground, while the IX09w Gekkota is the Softest. The softer you go the better performance in more demanding, extreme, situations. If you like the M5bevo in extreme situations You will really like the VE33s Gekkota. Give it a shot.
