Should Metallica Be Ashamed Of This?!

Today I'm reacting to an interesting live performance - Metallica & Miley Cyrus TOGETHER. A collaboration I never thought I'd see or even want to hear. A clash of the pop and rock titans you could say. Miley seems to be forging her way into the rock scene, so let's see how she fairs next to the most commercially successful rock band of our time Metallica and the legend that is James Hetfield. What do you think about Miley's switch into this genre - does she garner your respect or do you just see her as another mainstream pop star? Tell me.

I had a similar thought, she has an amazing voice and tons of control. Funnily enough I thought she and Miguel did the best jobs at the Cornell Tribute. It felt like the 'rock' singers were really struggling or just trying to yell their way through and the 'pop' singer had way more control and power.

Hi Justin, loving the show, new watcher, first time commenter. Love the analysis, firm but opinionated! Not passive aggressive sarcasm I promise, rather genuine appreciation for the playful opinion, delivered in a comedic style. Comments sections can be the twitter of life, leading to tribalism. However, we are in the fledgling era of our internet. It's childhood if you will. We're drawn to things that please us, and dubious/ afraid of that which challenges our comfort. We need guidance and love to see us through to the next phase intact. Playful banter such as that you deliver, is already helping us back to being able to discuss our differences in a non-cynical discourse, which allows the most important organ to re-engage during social intercourse, our ears, and the pathways to reason and mutual understanding within us. I have new found insight of your own musical prowess and intuition through these clips, and respect the grounding of your comments. Whilst I don't agree with every utterance, we are basically on the same page in that all music has a place but rock well... ROCKS! Only minor off putting aspect to these videos is the constant bombarding from the "still struggling to master the Guitar" brigade advertisements, and their pyramid "I'll make you a competent player in weeks" schemes (which I have to admit play to the insecurities of plinky plonker never had the discipline to practice properly "guitarist" like myself). With their "listen till the end of my video of half an hour-40mins (or whatever the algorithm for you tube requires for them to make money) before I'll reveal the secret to effortless rock godship, along with the cost". The actual secret being (spoiler alert!) find something you like then learn it. Hey Ho I'll keep plonking and live vicariously through my many children. Much love

The thing you gotta remember about a lot of rock fans is we're losers lmao. We grow up feeling like outcasts etc. So we kind of just have this disdain for anything popular that the "normal kids" like. As I became an adult it became so obvious to me that I hated so much music for literally no reason other than it was what people liked at the time. Miley Cyrus is the perfect example of this. Her father was a famous musician who grew up in the 70s and 80s, you don't think he played rock music around her growing up? She clearly has a genuine love for bands like Metallica, Zeppelin, etc. But because she was Hannah Montana and the girl who twerked at some awards show a certain type of rock fan who never grew up will still hate on her for no reason. She is a decent singer and is a fan of this music. Enough said. There's no reason for anyone to be embarrassed because they played with her.

It was a rocking start to a show back in 2004 and the Darkness in full swing when my band mate and I decided this would be a great time to throw our CD on stage in the hope one of the band or crew would pick it up! With a powerful flick of the wrist the CD wizzed over the Wembley crowd and almost took Dan out, subsequently the crowd parted and we were pulled by our scruffs and ejected from the show…..oops! Gutted! Only three songs in too. But those three songs were eventful. I did manage to see the whole show at the Camden Roundhouse many years later. Bloody great stuff!

Loving the video's, great stuff! Hoping Justin can answer the following on his comments day... I remember hearing or reading that Brian May said Freddie used to like singing in E flat which made it trickier for him as the guitarist. Could the multi talented Mr. H. explain this to us mortals?

I heard this about a year after I heard her sing Jolene. Both performances were incredible. Totally changed my option of her singing ability. This is an incredible performance & is up there as one of my favourite performances. And I hate covers & don’t listen to Metallica.

Miley Cyrus is an outstanding vocalist. Period. I applaud her for transcending the limitations that the industry can impose on certain types. I always think of The Osmonds The Plan album. It’s a freaking masterpiece, but because it was The Osmonds and the industry was setting up Donny as the star, nobody would promote it. Even though it was fantastic.

She performed "Zombie" by the Cranberries at the whisky a go go last year. You should check that out! She absolutely smashes it! Her voice is made for Rock. I can't stand her poppy stuff but boy does she nail Rock. If she wanted to be a rockstar she could do so easily!

I actually could not stand her until i watched a few of her live shows here on youtube. her vocal capacity is unbelievable and i have seen this particular video several times and she definitely nails it. glad you mentioned Stevie Nicks as she has done several duos with her also.
