After my divorce I had a lot of debt and nothing to show for 13 years of marriage. It took me five years to heal and clean up my finances all while raising five children. I didn’t want to date until after all my debt was paid off. It has taken five years, but I paid off debt and bought my first home. I’m now in a position to date without feeling like a potential burden to someone else.

I had student loan debt when I dated my boyfriend; I didn't ask him to pay for any of it. I paid it all off by myself and we split the bill on our dates/travels. My boyfriend is now accumulating debt for grad school and we're still together; when he graduates, he does not expect me to pay any of his debt either. I think if two people have same mindset, it will work out regardless of debt.

Finances believe it or not play a big part in a relationship. When one person is focusing on being debt free and the other is looking to buy vacation trips then the conflict comes... i know this from personal experience. the after math is that one feels horrible on having focus on debt rather than a vacation. it’s always a good idea to be with someone with the similar mindset as you.

Yeah as a guy it’s a little more challenging, most women desire a man to be a provider. Just like Dave said in the video, some guy was rejected because he was on a budget. Definitely think it’s a wise decision for guys to back off dating while paying off debt. Unless you can find a woman who respects your process and is ok with it.

  • @SilverShadow02

Nothing pathetic about paying for dates. Just keep them affordable to your budget. Do things with her family and her too, not just her. Spend time in real life with her. Do projects together, like clean out an attic, rake an old lady’s yard...and then just go have lunch. Doesnt need to be pricey stuff all the time, or even most of the time.

Be careful out there. Debt, like any insecurity, can attract abusive people that see an opportunity to control you. Stay the course on your own or make sure they are on board with your independent plan of attack.
