Shipping Container Bar & Grill is an Awesome Idea! Thow in some custom homemade bartops and beer taps for optimal sawmill viewing. Plus you can put your IDry Kiln up against the backside of your Container Bar, maybe tie them together with a rooftop deck across the top.

An over headed tracked train that can go left-right & front-back to be able to access everything. Just ensure that the coding doesn’t allow the crane to go down over the epoxy emporium or other closed rooms to ensure no building damage incurs.

I had my garage (shop) built in September/October 2020. I'm STILL working on infrastructure. This weekend I finally got the drawers cut and started for under the infeed table (yup, I have a mobile outfeed AND infeed table), so that I have a place to store fasteners and other fun stuff that's been cluttering up work surfaces. But I run another business (which is in the early stages of being sold) and the busy season is upon us, so it's been a struggle. Once sold, my focus will be 100% on optimizing the shop for efficiency of workflow. And of course, creating more of my own video content.

Put a roof over the outdoor sawmill section and build the kiln there with a concrete slab to make things easier to move. It would also give you space to stack slabs for air drying prior to putting in the kiln. Build the finishing room in back left corner of the metal side and open a doorway from the wood side into it, also build a contained grinding room in the metal shop with fume/dust extraction (it will make a tremendous difference in keeping that side clean).

Ask for my thoughts and yin shall receive: - If you're doing a shipping container bar (sweet concept) then either a hot tub or an above ground pool behind it facing that open view because of reasons - The sawmill definitely needs an awning but a retractable one might be best so it doesn't interfere with loading - The metal shop needs more dust and fume extraction - If your roof has any amount of southern sunlight exposure SOLARIZE ALL OF TEH THINGZ because with the rising costs of electricity, and shops use a metric f&*kton of it, having a fixed loan payment on the panels all year round is so much nicer than getting surprised by a price hike on your electric bill, plus you might be able to sell surplus power for some cash in the SREC market which would let you pay off the panels even faster - At some point the entrance to the building needs a squirrel statue

You should look into a drywall cart for moving sheets and other wide slabs around the shop. As long as it doesn't have to stay level while moving, a drywall cart is one of the best options for moving large things around. I've used one a few times to move 14 foot and 16 foot shuffleboards around and it made it so much easier than the other options available

Thoughts about the sawmill operation. The biggest bottleneck in lumber is the drying process. "A" kiln will get you by, but it is still a huge limit to throughput, increasing inventory, lead times, etc. It would be best to make your mid to long range plans for as much kiln capacity as possible. It may also be advantageous to have a diverse capacity (both hot room and vacuum kilns). Also, if you put the mill in a future building, consider putting a gantry crane over it. That would greatly increase material handling and safety. Expensive, yes, but those concerns will pay off huge in the long run.

Love the tour. Way to get after it. Shipping container bar would be a great addition. Any plans to cover the saw mill to protect from the elements?

As some other comments stated, you should do a video on building a carport /shelter cover for the new sawmill. Protect it from the elements. And the deck using some of that lumber you saved would be great.

It’s been incredible watching your journey ! Can you do a video on how you control the climate in your shop for your wood slabs/table tops/finished projects? Humidity/Air Flow vs cost ? I’ve got a 40x60 insulated barn but no AC. I am curious if adding some exhaust fans in the attic and ceiling fans would be better than installing AC unit for the summer in Cincinnati. Your shop is amazing congrats !!

I would include an area to lock up you cameras and stuff for content creation in the office. Also, an open face pole barn on your side lot to keep the direct rain off the stuff you're drying would be good as well.

John, with all that space have you maybe considered a small addition where you can just film content? So the small content room could have a strip down or modular tool set up depending on the project your filming. Then it wouldn't matter what the guys were going in the main shop.

i think one idea that might help with flow, but may reduce wall space is including an opening where the dust collection is on the wood side and where the for sale band saw is on the metal side. Not sure if that would reduce the wall space too much but it would help with flow/movement.

We have 2 power magic 72 saws on the same table. They face each other like you want to do. We have 7 guys working in our shop and it works pretty good. It’s great for if someone has a jig or custom angle on one saw and the other is always good to go. I highly recommend a vertical panel saw! Either Stirebig or Holzer. We also have a 43” time saver and absolutely love it. So I really recommend one.
