I’ve got both, had a 986 from new, one of the first in the country, I also have a 996 C4. Both lovely cars, but very different, if you swap out to a 911 you will love it, the extra power is addictive and the looks are great, however you will realise the Boxster is also a special car and out handles a 911 in a lot of scenarios. If you have the 911 itch and can’t afford both, you should definitely scratch that itch. But be warned you may go back to a Boxster and may regret selling your fully sorted 987.

I’ve owned a 930 for 13 years, a 997.1 S for years, and now a 987.2 PDK. I can tell you - the Boxster is the sweet spot.

its simple, if you are on a budget and you want porsche experience get boxster /cayman, great cars, 987.2 3.4s with pdk, sport, sport + mods, is awesome, plenty of power, its real joy to drive, like a racecar driver. boxster is cool for back roads in summer with top down. and if money is not an issue get 911 with pdk, manual, cabrio, targa, gt3, whatever you fancy, plenty of options on the market.

i say f*ck those 911 guys and their over priced squashed beetles, you do you and don't GAF what anyone else thinks. i tell people the day i can take your opinion to the bank and pay my car note is the day i'll consider it.

If you’ve put £20,000 already into your car together with the actual amount you paid for it you could have bought a far newer version of the Boxster surely? I’ve just got rid of my 987, loved it but the car became a money pit unfortunately, as they all will because of their age and the state of British roads! You obviously like your car, so good luck with it👍

a porsche boxster or cayman has way better handling than a 911. fact is, if the boxster/cayman were considered the "traditional" porsche and the 911 were the "upstart", then everybody would want a boxster, citing its "superior handling" and "better looks", or whatever. in short, this is all about marketing. jeff richardson has an expertly done, hilarious youtube video (appropriately called "Porsche DOES NOT want you to know this!!!") where he expertly dissects the 911 myth and shows the 986/996 and 987/997 series to be essentially the very same car.

Don't put heavy camera gear or jump leads on the back seats, it could scuff the leather

I drove my friend's Boxster and was thoroughly unimpressed by the quality and speed. It was a slow car that felt constantly wanting for power and the inside was cheap and full of plastic. I've driven 2 generations of Caymans and done the Porsche Driving Experience in LA as well ($700 experience). The Cayman S was really the sweet spot for price and performance It was the first one in the lower priced lineup that felt like it had enough power to be fun and didn't feel too cheaply built or designed.

@@simonmartin2816 I've been in a 987 Boxster, 2 generations of Caymans, and a couple of 911s. There are different levels of trim and fit and finish between them, obviously, in order to hit the discounted price point of the Boxster or make the 911s more premium. While they may share some components, I promise you that going up the market yields a nicer car. That being said, I have not tried the *latest* Boxsters from the 982 generation or the gorgeous Boxsters Spyder, and I think those are definitely much nicer, more capable cars than the previous generations of Boxster..

Good vid - Ive had both and I'm now back in a boxster (as i wanted an occasional car) - Having gone 986 to 997 c4s, it was a big change but power wise, the C4s is heavier than the boxster so for me the agility and sharpness of the boxster isnt in the 911, especially the C4s. Its a better every day car though and mine only suffered a few usual issues like cooling pipes and water pump. I opted for a gen 2 987 S which is a bit more reliable than both the earlier engines (no ims, DFI etc) . My view is if you havent had a 911, then its for me a must but value for money wise Boxster is a winner in my opinion. BTW the C4s has a smaller 'frunk' again due to its diff so space isnt bigger than a boxster imo!

Please don't take this as an example of not enjoying your channel. Enjoy it quite a bit actually. 1. Boxster and Cayman are real Porsches. We own a 981 Boxster, a 981 Cayman, a Macan, and a Macan S. We are not poor , but we also do not own or have any interest in owning a 911 (well maybe a cartoonishly silly GT3 RS haha). That's not meant as a "humble brag" - just a rebuttal to the "poor man Porsche" garbage. 2. Jumper Cables can be rolled up and left behind the seat of a Boxster or Cayman.

Thanks for watching mate 100% agree love my boxster and totally think it is a real Porsche. There will always be naysayers on the internet to attemp to discredit the mid engined cars. I have now got a portable jump pack in the cabin at all times :)

Diamond cut wheels are terrible, they can only be refurbished 2 or 3 times in their lifetime, and for what? Marginally better aesthetics.

Thanks for watching mate. I see your point hopefully they dont run into any curbs and they dont need a refurb anytime soon :)
