I was premed student before. But three years in, I opted to change degrees and go into communications. I thought I lost my passion for medicine because of the constant criticism I got from my friends and teachers. But now that I'm in the communications and media field, I feel like the pull of medschool is stronger. Ugh! Ohgush pray for me indecisive soul guys!

Great video, it sounds like Med School has a lot of parallels with my Doctorate CRNA program. The only two differences I'd note is that on top of the organic chem, patho, gross dissection etc you will take at least one research type course a semester. These include lots of researching meta-analysis RCTs and peer reviewed journals and synthesizing your own paper and research. They will force you to become an APA paper writing master. They are preparing you for your giant DNP project that is supposed to be published research when you graduate. The other difference is classroom attendance for lecture is mandatory. They allow you to record them and review it again if you like to take notes slowly at a later time but you will be in class every day. I think they look at it as respect for their time as teachers and also gives you the ability to ask questions during lecture and not email them after class has ended with questions/concerns.

really interesting watching your videos about Med-school, It's so different to the UK medicine degree! i'm currently a 2nd year med student but I'm basically in the pre-med stage of the degree - it's purely academic and we learn the science behind the topics in clinical school which are years 4, 5 and 6 (this is at Cambridge, most med schools are only 5 years). It's killer that it takes 8 years to become a doctor in the US!

Celeb132 you're lucky in Argentina you have to study in med school 6 years then for the especially 4 years and 2 or 3 of residency soo we don't have a million of doctors wich it's kinda great because here many people enter to university (wich are public) so like anyone can study it but it's so looong that only medicine lovers stay and they transform themselves into wonderful doctors.i love medicine and I wouldn't change it for ANYTHING this is my life style😍

+maroush aa nursing-premed is a very difficult path. Takes yrs longer than othe rpeople to graduate and take mcat because for nursing you don't take all the upper level science classes required for med school. I am currently a nurse trying to finish prereq to go to med school and take mcat but i am much older than my peers. I do appreciate the experience I have gotten but nurses and doctors do completely different things.

twinklinglena hi I am from algeria I see all your videos and you are so good at it thanks Lena you gave me such a Hope to go to med school 😫😫 Here in my country the only problem we have in high school is that the final year we have an international exam Which determines our destiny in the university so that the average ranges between 1to 20 And to study in good colleges you should get more than 15.50 and for the Faculty of Medicine is at 15.89 this year is at a height every year so when we pass this last examand we did not get the choice we wanted we can repeat this test many times until we get the rate that corresponds to our choice that we want but many students are satisfied with only the rate they have already received and they choose to study in faculties that they don't want to study in and they do not want it, I personally do not I recommend this so I passed this exam and i got 13.50 but I want to return it until I get 16 and study at the Faculty of Medicine and it is not easy because I will have to do my studies at home so I can not go to school and this for a year It is very difficult because I get a lot of criticism from my family and friends and I am in a state of psychological fear and turmoil. They all agree that I will not be able to achieve what I want but I disagree with them. I believe myself that I can and that I want to see myself as a doctor and not just a failure convinced of failure as they believe

Obviously just to get a bachelors degree it's expensive and I had to take out loans for college but for med school how does that work? Hi! I really enjoy your videos because I am going into medicine as well! I am about to be a senior in high school and I'm starting my college applications. I've shadowed a surgeon this year and I was just offered to shadow another one soon (!!!). I also volunteer at a hospital close to me. I am 100% sure that I am meant to be in the medical field. I want to be a surgeon and I'm leaning towards cardiothoracics but I'm also interested in neuro. What do you recommend I major in while in a pre-med program? Would neuroscience be only beneficial if I decide to go into neurology? Please respond! :)

So. I have an interest in going to Med school, I'm a truck driver (sounds interesting I know) I plan on attending college here in about a year. I make almost 100k a year and I want to go to school and not worry about my loans. I worked as a cardiac monitor tech at golisano children's hospital. I have a years experience in a cath lab, 2years as a ER monitor tech/nurse assistant. I know It's a large step and I'm prepared to make this step in about a year. So the questions I have for you are: 1- I plan on majoring in anatomy, is this wise? 2- how much money is med school per year. IE: incidentals, books, food? 3- Recommendations on med schools? Thanks again, Matt

Just discovered your channel a week ago and I love it! This coming fall I'll be going into my second year of undergrad. What are your thoughts on non-STEM pre-med students? I'm currently a microbiology & immunology major but I'm looking to switch to psychology. I know you can go into med school without having to be a STEM major, but do you think it will affect me in any way? Thanks again!

+Jessica Marie hi Jessica! I don't think the major in college matters for applying to medical school as long as you can fulfill all the prerequisites. It's good to come to medical school with different perspectives! if you do end up majoring in psychology, make sure you turn it into one of your strengths and talk about how studying psychology gave you a unique perspective on medicine or how to treat patients, etc. best of luck!

Hi! I'm 14 and in my last year of Jr. High School, and right now considering a career in the medical field (specifically as a nuerosurgeon). I am a little concerned as well because, although I'm a pretty good student, I'm not quite sure if the the years of studying and schooling are worth it. I was just wondering 1) What made you decide you wanted to pursue medicine? 2) Is all of the studying of science and math worth it in the end, because I love science, but am not a big fan of math. Thank you so much! I love your videos :)

I am so glad I found your channel! I am a neuroscience major as well and graduating in the fall. I am in this dilemma of whether i should even still consider applying because I feel my gpa isn't competitive enough. Its not too low but its like at the minimum gpa of being competitive. I am unsure if i should do research during my gap year (I volunteered in a 2 research labs, but wasn't in them for too long) or focus more on volunteering/shadowing and be medical scribe. Do you have any advice? Because Ive been stressing about this for awhile. When exactly did you know you wanted to do medicine? Hope you can answer my questions and best of luck with all your studying so far!

itschanellee assuming you're in the USA, if you do really well on your mcat it will balance out your gpa. Research will go a long way and shadowing with someone who will write you a really good letter of recommendation will help immensely. The borderline students are pushed over the top with good letters of rec from highly reputable sources (directors, deans, chiefs of surgery, etc)

Sorry it's kind of a late question, but I'm currently trying to get into nursing school...but I'm at the point where I'm debating back and forth whether or not to go into med school. I don't wanna waste my parents money and I'm already in my 4th year of college (I basically fooled around the first few years). I do want to do something with medicine for sure. If I go into nursing, I want to get my doctorate in geriatric nursing. I read online that it's similar to what a geriatrician does...except a geriatrician does a little more. Since both are quite similar which makes this so hard. You kind of answered the question but for my case, it's a little more difficult to be firm with my decision. What would you suggest I do to determine whether or not med school is right? Should I try nursing first? Love your videos btw!

I'm 16 (17 on the 28th 🙂) and I know I love medicine and am leaning towards Pediatrics but...I'm terrified. I'm scared of failing because then what? What do I do? I took senior's anatomy as a junior and I loved it and found such an ease to it getting the highest grade on every single quiz and test but that fear always sits in the back of my head. This week I'm taking part in a Nursing Camp to see if Medicine is really what I want to do and I LOVE it. Tomorrow I shadow at ICU and Friday I shadow at the ER (unfortunately they don't have Pediatrics and Maternity was full ☹️). I also plan on volunteering after school like you said. The MCAT terrifies me as well as STEP. How is the process really? Like how many years did you do in college and such. What was your experience there? Was it really as stressful as everyone says? What about Med School? Is it as stressful as well? Does the college or University you attend really matter? Sorry for bombarding you with questions but I'm a senior this year and I have to make a decision ASAP. Please answer 🙏🏽😫
