    If you want to go the pre-med route in college/university you have to take certain classes in order to apply to certain graduate and medical schools. Hope that helps you!

    I'm a freshman neuroscience major! I am so glad I found your videos. You are giving me so much hope. I haven't been doing very well in two of my science classes (Organic Chem and Cells, Genes, and Inheritance), so I have been rethinking my pre-med/pre-health track. Since I have been watching your videos, I have gotten this new sense of hope. I am falling back in love with medicine and my decisions for my future!!

    so you go to a uni before going to med school? or what is undergrad really? im sorry, im from finland and the terms and stuff isnt just the same here plus no matter how much greys anatomy ive watched im not completely fluent in english. if we wanna go to a med school in finland we just apply after graduating high school, we have to attend an entrance exam and if you do well enough youll get in.

    +anna In US, most medical schools are graduate school programs, meaning you go to college (university) for 4 years as an "undergraduate student" before you can apply and attend medical school. I know it's different in other countries-- for instance in Korea, a lot of medical schools are designed the way it is in Finland so people go to medical school straight after high school. There are some high school to medical school programs (7-8 years long) in the US but it's not common.

    Pre-med is not a major. Pre-med is just doing your undergrad and planning on med school. Any major can be pre med but bio is def a good major because you can get all credits to fulfill requirements of pre med and your major!

    What if you have not decided weather you want to do nursing or go to medical school. Would it be ok to get your degree in nursing and then go to medical school if you decide to do it? And do you have to do a Pre- Med program in college or is it just a recommendation?

    You can do whatever you want. All you have to do is take certain classes that are required from the medical schools, have a bachelors degree in anything, take the MCAT. Everything you need will be on the medical school website.

    That would be eight yours; four years with college and then another four yours with medical school. If you really wanna pursue your dreams of being a doctor, I think the next step is a year of internship and then residency in a specialty.

    Is research in undergrad necessary to get into med school?

  • @TheStrivetoFit

    @TheStrivetoFit

    8 жыл бұрын

    +profssrfunk I don't think anyone can say for sure whether one type of extracurricular activity is "mandatory" to get into med school-- although there are certain one that are highly recommended and will make you an attractive candidate (e.g. clinical exposure). I did research as did many of my friends in med school. It doesn't have to be a wet lab research (mine wasn't)-- I think it can really be anything you're interested in but you should keep at it for long enough that you can adequately talk about it at your interviews.
