My initial reaction was Lefty, but really theres no wrong choice here. Both birds deserved better fates than life dealt them. Looking forward to seeing your progress with him.

@@BirdTricks NEED HELP OR ADVISE, I have IRN Parrot and cocktail, I buy my IRN parrot last years June, the store owner said he is just 9 month to year, my problem is it’s been year, he is still scared from me when I change the water or food, he jump everywhere in the cage, he is happy with cocktails, INR parrot taught my cocktail bird, don’t go to me, now they both are same not coming to me and scared from me, I want to feed him or cuddle him, I am very patiently waiting for him to come to me but he is still very scared from me and my family

I want to see you work with both Maybe after you're done with the Quaker parrot you could take on the ringneck?

I think leftie is a good choice. I feel like he really needs you. I don't know how bird rescues work, but his agression would probably keep him from ever getting adopted. I hope you can make a video about wing clipping, tho. It is also a very important topic.

@@leelewin4343 spend lots of time with the bird they need a lot of attention try giving them treats from you’re hand etc since that will get them used to having them they are very sweet birds but be warned they can get a bit aggressive at night and they are naughty sometimes.

Lefty, because I think it will be a really beneficial process for people who are maybe in a similar situation as his previous family and just don't know what to do. I also really like that you encourage the outlook that birds should be raised with the mentality of 'I want my bird to be able to flourish no matter what happens or where he/she ends up'. Your videos are amazing and you do a wonderful job, keep up the great work!

I think the patrons chose right, while neither are in ideal mental (and physical) conditions atm. lefty's story and behaviour needs a far more experienced hand (in my opinion

Thank you for working with the rescue organization to find Lefty a wonderful forever home. There aren't many (or any) legitimate training videos that address serious parrot aggression issues so it's great that you can provide this to your viewers. I think over time it would be best to work with the Indian ring neck in addition to the quicker. You’ve shown many examples of working with a bird that is aggressive but I think it would be interesting to show you working with a bird that was damaged so drastically physically by humans. I think the story of this Indian ring neck or a bird with a similar physical condition caused by ignorant humans would be a really good story for the internet to have. It might bring some awareness to the harm we can do by being misinformed. Thanks and love you as always. You guys are the best.

Yes, I wish she could take both on. I think the ringneck will be a much less challenging subject and might not be as time consuming. Also, the Quaker will need a lot of down time I would think, as too much interaction would be overwhelming for him and might stunt his growth, so it might be good to have the little ringneck to work with in the quaker's downtime. I know that youtubers have to constantly keep grinding with the videos, so that might be a good way to stay fully stocked up. :p (Basically me making excuses as to why she needs two and not one :p)

I really want an Indian ringneck myself, so it would be cool to see one on your channel

Yes Leftie! I wanted him because I too believe that every bird can be helped. My first bird was a Quaker and I think they are so underrated. They talk about as well as African Grays and use language and tools. Super smart birds with a huge personality. Mine was named Smarty Pants because of his mischievousness. They truly are little green dragons. I'm so excited!!!

I so agree with you 💯. I have a Quaker and he thinks of new stuff and comes out with noises and words almost perfectly mimicked. He brings me joy every day.

I'm picking up a swainsons lorikeet in February his wings are clipped he's only 3 and a half months old will his wings grow back normally as he ages so he can fly around my home normally?

Yes, Lefty would be the one since he has some aggression. They are wonderful birds, to have. They can be funny, very talkative and talented. They love to fly and be with their person. They do have personality in which you will see this in him ! Glad that you are able to help him. Jaime you are a great blessing to birds and thank you and Dave for what you do to help them. Can't wait to see updates on him when you start work with the little guy!

I think both birds are very good choices, for different reasons. Lefty, because he needs love and care for himself, and the other because people NEED TO understand how to care for a parrot and not maim them for their own selfish reasons.

Personally, i would love you to take on both birds since they both had a special need that would be great to help them with. I’m very excited for this journey and hope after Lefty, you are able to take on The Indian Ringneck as your next project. The experience I had with Quaker parrots was my Aunt’s male quaker named TRIX, who was very aggressive and would bite due to my uncle inhibiting the behavior of biting by always poking him and such, thus Trix believed this was play. With my aunt and her daughter, Trix was very loving and playful. He was super talkive and learned to say “TE PICO!” (Spanish for “I’ll bite u!”) and “AL QUE TE PICO (i’m gonna bite you) before he would lunge to bite. Trix would bot let anyone but my aunt and her daughter pet and touch him. I used the Birdtricks Power Pause tactic on him in a span of 2-3 days and I was able to pet his head and interact with him without him wanting to bite me. They are smart birds Unfortunately my aunt and uncle didnt follow through with the training to train the aggressiveness out of Trix and Trix continued his aggression to the point he was rehomed =,( But quakers are very amazing birds and when trained right, very loving and playful. Amazing talkers and look so cute and pudgy when they puff up in happiness.

I personally would have liked to see the IRN because while it's great that you are going to transform the confidence of lefty, it's a very common case. Every time I tell people I have birds people always respond with "oh they're meeeeeean" birds being aggressive and hating everyone is unfortunately very common and I think taking on a rarer case such as a butchered clip would have been more educationally valuable.

Congratulation jamie for another good intention.. Patreons chose correctly for you left touch aggressive your love will make him feel normal... But somewhat in my mind felt that you should also adopted indian ring neck bird... This is my experience.. My friends mom raised indian ring neck bird some 15yrs ago, at that time ring necked birds are not banned to raise in home.. That bird name was chika he use to talk nice and follow his owner and they never clipped his feathers.. And he use sit on my lap and loves me too.. He is not aggressive but soft natured.. Every thing went fine.. Then our goverment banned indian ring neck bird to raise in home or to captivate and only exotic birds are allowed... Forest department came and seized chikka.. He talked to officers that he wont come he wont come... But nothing to do.. They put him in a sanctuary... Because of worries and despair not able to see his beloved owner... He died two days later... Still i cant digest it.. Then my friend mom died after six months because she slipped from balcony while thinking about chikka.. I love them but cant raise them... This is my first bird connection.. Then i started raising roosters.. Please adopt touche some time later. People need to educate about bird clipping... Excited to see lefty.. Is he a left legged bird? How is morgan now? Thanks for informing us..🙏

There was no right and wrong choosing. Both parrots need support and I am very excited for Lefty. An online acquaintance dropped off two Quakers at my house and I was able to gain the trust of the one Quaker, but the female came from an abusive home, had a bad wing clip, and lost two of her toes and is very aggressive. I have both of them for almost 2 months and she is still aggressive towards everyone and anything. So I am very excited to see your journey with Lefty and learn more about how I can gain her trust

I have a male Quaker that just turned 1yo in May 2019. He is adorable but very territorial with his cage. He is a good talker. Beware of the mood swings! One second he is kissing me and 2 seconds later biting me. He's just a little guy with the biggest personality! So glad you are going to help Lefty so he can get a new home. Quakers are terrific companion birds!

I'm so glad you decided to work with lefty :) Quaker parrots are a soft spot for me. I'm sure you know this, but something to note (about males in particular) is that they tend to be EXTREMELY cage territorial. Most Quaker owners will get their birds to step up onto a stick to get out of their cage in order to avoid provoking aggression. I personally never had that issue with my Quaker, but she appears to be the exception 😂

I work at a shelter and we had a blue Quaker in that was very cage territorial. She absolutely refused to step up out of her cage unless you scooped her and she felt that she had all around support. Probably not the best, but it was enough to get her adopted and into a really good home. And HOLY CRAP ARE THEY SMART!! They pick things up soooo quickly

If you want to clip a birds wings, you have the wrong pet. Birds have wings, it’s the only thing going for them. If you are getting a bird just to clip their wing, get a dog or any other animal for crying out loud.

Why get a dog of it's going to be on a leash... that comment is so stupid! It's being a responsible owner. If the house isn't big enough, it'll keep the bird from injury and possibility of flying away. People leave doors open when getting groceries etc.

Lefty is a good choice. I want to learn more about them and as a pet bird. I fell for one on a visit. Never wanted a bird until I discovered they can be trained to fly and don't have to be clipped. Good luck! 🐦

I have 2 Quaker parrots and I would love to see you work with a quaker as both quakers I have are tough cases. One is extremely aggressive and is a one person lover and the other just wants to be left alone and was so emaciated when we rescued him. We've worked so hard with them and we still have a long way to go and I believe you will help us through your journey. So glad you chose Lefty.

I just came across your channel, yesterday. So much love to you, your family, and all the birds. I miss our Quaker parrot soooo much! She was our first (and only) bird. We adopted her from our young, raver kid, neighbor, who was getting a divorce and moving, and felt like moving a cute bird in a large cage, a long distance, was too difficult. He just gave her away. It took a couple days for her to trust us, but afterwards, my father and I had both built a great relationship with her. When we first adopted her we were told she was a male. We had no idea what shock awaited us. One day after having her for quite a while, she started acting really grouchy. She's been so sweet before, and I couldn't figure out what was going on. Shortly thereafter, she'd laid an egg in her cage! Surprise - not a male! Hah The next time her egg cycle came around, she flew out the front door! We were devistated. A couple months later, I was pumping fuel at the gas station near our home... Guess who flew down from a palm tree?! Yep! It was her! She saw me pumping gas, and flew up to say hello, and to let me know why she left. It turns out, she was nesting in the palm tree by the street corner where the gas station was located. We lived on an island where there were a small number of Quakers. On a rare occasion, one could see a few flying around the island. She'd left to start a new season of her life, as a momma. It would seem that she paired with one of the wild parrots, and they started a family. She flew back and forth between me and palm and showed me that was where she was nesting. Although I couldn't see that high, I could hear the precious chirps of babies coming from the palm tree. 🐣🌴 That was the last time I saw her. It was such a sweet, and beautiful moment. I'll never forget it. The flock on the island has since grown and flourished, their wild numbers are coming back, and I like to think she helped make that happen.💚 Before she came into our lives, I'd only ever had one previous experience with a bird...it was traumatizing! My mother had been dating a man who had a few birds. On the first day of meeting him at his home, we were casually sitting on the couch in the living room. His big white bird was hanging out, with us, on the back of the couch. Out of nowhere, this psycho bird ran down my arm and chomped a triangular (1cm) chunk out of my right leg! Great first experience, right?! 😱😭 It was a sulfur crested cockatoo...It's like the bird is extremely energetically sensitive, but reacts with the exact opposite of empathy. It was psycho! .. Truly traumatizing. Our Quaker helped me to heal from that traumatic experience, and showed me the beautiful relationships which can be possible with birds (even when they're grouchy). And we helped her heal and thrive dispite having come from a chaotic, smokey, loud, home where fighting happened almost daily. I'm so grateful for, "Bird" coming into our lives, and while I'm delighted to know she's made a fantastic life for herself, I miss her dearly. 😘🐦😢💚

They both could really use your professional help, so sad. The Quaker parrot, I believe will be a huge challenge in diverse ways, providing many learning opportunities for things that we might be experiencing now, or will experience in the future. I had a quacker who passed, do to a horrible flight accident and getting startled by kids and ran into a fan. I have not been able to get another one. I hand fed him, he was a male, and he was my baby.. i blame myself for not clipping his wings, and still don't know. But I miss him so much, and I'm thankful for the avian vets that tried to help him.

I think they made the right choice I cant wait to see the videos you make with him I used to have a quacker named romeo and he was the sweetest guy around and loved kisses from people he liked everyone but loved my dad the most

Yay! I am so excited to see you work with Lefty! My mother and I had a Quaker surrendered to us in my twenties. Neither of us had any experience with birds. This meant a lot of our interactions were through trial and error. Petey sadly passed away unexpectedly while I was away one weekend. I never knew why. My mother has never be able to talk to the event either. Knowing what I know now from your education on diet, I am sure that had something to do with his passing. During my short time with him, I found him to be one of my favorite companions. Petey was very smart and was very eager to play/learn new things. My favorite game with him was peek-a-boo. During our bonding times, we would play rounds of peek-a-boo where I would place a piece of fabric over him and remove it for him to say peek-a-boo. As adorable as he would be saying words and phrases, we quickly discovered how noisy this little bird can be. Quakers as a breed have a locator call similar to your sun conures. Not having him on a good schedule for his to be out of his cage, he would often start calling as soon as one of us came home. Some days were better than others. His noise level certainly increased when he started developing his sexual urges. Quakers are also very territorial. We were not able to reach into his space / cage without him becoming aggressive. I found ways around this when it came for him to be out of the cage. Just by allowing him to come out on his own, rather than reaching in was the preferred method. My experience with him developed my love for birds and quest to seek more knowledge on how to properly care for a bird for a companion. In my quest for knowledge, I came across your KZread channel and have been watching you ever since. You have been one of leading sources of information for Birds and bird care that I regularly go to. I have learned through you how to properly interact with birds and become an educated potential future bird caretaker. I now feel confident in making a thoughtful an educated decision if I were to choose to bring another bird into my home. Thank you for that! Best of luck with Lefty! All of those "bird mom" and "dog mom" people are insane and their animals aren't as happy as yours. They has no concept of boundaries. Keep it up. Also did you know we have a large population of Quakers here in central Texas?

I have an IRN and shes very sweet, smart as a whip but alittle territorial where her space is concerned. I do not clip her wings so I am happy you said something about that. Poor little Lefty needs your help now. He looks so upset.

Good choice, he looks like he needs the most help emotionly and mentally. I have a little Quaker, I've had him for 12 years and I love that little guy so much! I've taught him around 13 tricks and is pretty social, except not for children. He use to love everyone but awhile back some kids were over and got him out without my permission and supervision and he's never liked kids since.

I think you have the skills, knowledge and understanding (and the love) to sort both those two wee birdies at the same time! At the very least you could sort lefty out in a month or two and then go to the other one! Keep up the good work!🙋‍♂️

I honestly think Lefty was the right choice. His journey sounds like its been nothing but melancholy and it would be a truly wonderful gift for him to realize that he doesn't have to be lonely or terrified. To know that humans can be pleasant and entertaining would open up his world!

Not related to training, but we have multiple WILD flocks of Quakers here in New Orleans. I did work with a Male Quaker that had splayed legs and later as a result broke one of them. It was a long journey, but I got him to trust and eventually found a home for him.

I'm really happy they chosen Lefty since I have a lovebird that is exactly the same! I wish to bond with him even though he wants nothing to do with me... I hope I can get some tips from your future videos

I agree with tank experiment. Work with one and then the other later. Lefty seemed more unhappy, but the ringneck needs needs help too and could help spread awareness that would benefit other birds/bird owners.
