Raising a quaker parrot

This is my honest opinion on the last 5 weeks of hand-raising this quaker parrot. Just to let your parrot owners know what to expect from my perspective.

My Cockatiel would poop on command. I’d hold him over the sink and say poop before I put him on my shoulder so I could get him to potty first. Then I’d take him off every few minutes and say Poooop and he would. It doesn’t totally rid of of shirt poops, but it drastically cuts them down being able to make them go. He would still even try to go if he didn’t need to and I gave the command. I started saying pooooop when I’d see him straining. Then it just eventually worked into him knowing that word for potty and doing it. It was great!

Beautiful parrot. I had a quaker that recently passed at 21 years old and he had a huge personality. It was like he was a person ☹

A parrot is actually easier, the fact is their grow so fast and develop intelligence much quicker than us.

Thank you, I was so scared my baby Quaker is gonna turn against me when she's older. I hand feed her since she's 2 weeks cause she has splayed legs. But I heared that they will start to not like their parents after they've been weaned 😨 but hopefully, that's not true

We have had our quaker parrot (kiwi-a girl) for 15months now. She is a spoiled little angel. Always wants massages and attention. She has bonded to my daughter(11yrs old). They are best friends. Kiwi is her body guard. She protects my daughter from daddy & little brother. So cute!. She flys everywhere in the house. Flys to their rooms, livingroom, downstairs and etc. We are planning on getting her a harness aviator. So she( kiwi) can take a walk with us. But i am scared bcuzz their is a big hawk on our street that flys everywhere looking for food. We have seen it in our yard catching mice.🤔😲 So i would never clip my birds wings.🙁

Yeah you have to be careful when you take them outside. I would definitely suggest a harness. You don't want them to freefly whenever there's birds like that around.

When Quaker Parrot bond with a human it's a bond for life. You become a part of their flight therefore from their mentality wherever you go there supposed to go as well. A quaker parrot will call out in order to let you know where they are at whenever they feel like they've lost their human. This means that your bird is definitely bonded to you completely. One trick you can do and this is what I personally do is whenever I go to leave the room for an extended. Of time I will put up blinders on the side and back of his cage and I'll Point him away from the door and I will get behind the cage where he can still hear my voice so he still thinks I'm in the room I'm just not in I shot and then I will leave the room after he hears my voice this usually keeps him calm. I hope this helps.

I would be happy to help. There are a few techniques that could definitely benefit and hopefully discourage biting Behavior. I appreciate your comments and will address this in my next video. Expected no later than tomorrow. If you have any further questions feel free to comment.

Are you on Facebook? We have a supposedly 11 week old Quaker parrot. She is very small and not as blue as yours. I've been trying to bond with her but she is very attached to my boyfriend.

Clipping bird wing should be illegal. You're literally disabling the poor bird. Imagine taking you legs off how would you feel??? Hope you do your research well before owning a pet
